Yes - I noted that. 'MARINES' inscription on starboard side that spans across three coloured zones was 'interesting' too perhaps. And I can imagine that making sure that the single colour decals are not trapped into a wrong colour zone was also essential although maybe a bit easier.

Realy nice Scooter! Makes me to open a box with my Hobby2000 TA-4M. This Fujimi kit in the box does look very nice.

I think it's not only 'MARINES'. Danger marks on the intakes are also two-coloured. And moreover all the decals on this scheme are either olive or grey. So colour match was very important to make an appropriately looking model.

Another question - is it just me or the black version is actually a quite different modification? I think on the picture it has a much shallower mid-fuselage recess than the white/red one. Is it so in real life though? Did the Airfix got it right? Anybody has walkaround links to check?

Hmmm. Piasecki was of Polish ancestry but born in the US. What about Charles Kaman? I do not see if he is somehow associated with Eastern European roots. But just learn he was also musical instruments designer and owner of Kaman Music Corporation!!! Talented persons all have many talents.

Thank you for comment! Is Hasegawa originates to the times when my 61-0159 was still stationed in Thailand and flew bombing sorties? Scalemates say 1966!!! I suspect in that case the kit lacks a little more than just vent slots

Primed this as well.
A small mask from red trim tab came off during photosession. Luckily not during painting!
Also I've not forgotten to add a stabilizer!
Idea is to attach it after decalling. There is a large decal with red stripes to cover the full tail. I have no idea how one could apply that decal with stabilisers installed.
Also fuel tanks are primed black.
Metallics will go next weekend. Plan is to paint darker metal for as I understand steel elements, then duller aluminium and normal aluminium to create panel effect. Let's see how the plan would work. Four weeks to deadline!

As far as I know they were supposed to, but Canada never admitted it had Genies on its Voodoos. This did not stop me from putting Genies into secret bay on my CF-101B model though

Just checked the bigH for the military decals availability in 1/72: Bf-109 - 190 decal sets, Spitfire - 157 decals, Mustang - 108 decals. Together they give over 10% of all the decals listed there in 1/72.

Ok, I see now. Netherlands and Belgium have nukes storages too. Never realised they do. And lastly there is a nuke storage at Incirlik, Turkiye but I guess these nukes will be carried by USAF aircraft stationed there.

In fact engineers born across our lands worked a lot on both sides of the world. A very big number of Soviet engineers were of Ukrainian origin. I probably should not recall that Pavel Sukhoi was Belarusian from a small town of Hlybokaje.
On the other hand Seversky, Sikorsky and Kartveli came to the US from Russian Empire.
Unfortunately seems the history is making another circle and these lands will give the world another wave of talented people leaving too few for ourselves...

Yeah, this is quite popular scheme. It is in Printscale set and I think it's also present in a new Caracal set. 61-0159 survived the war and has been on display at Davis-Montan AFB. In 2023 it was returned to its original serial number and was repainted with "Honeypot II. Have gun will travel" markings.

Very nice Starfighter! Superbly painted and neatly weathered.
That's interesting that the Dutch also kept 'special weapons' in storage. I knew about Germans and Italians... and sort of Canadians with air-to-air Genie missiles - but never knew the Dutch kept nukes too.

I will use Vallejo metal acrylics for the metals. So this will be the first time I will apply them over Vallejo's black gloss coating - as per instructions! So the next one should be black gloss primer
And this will also work for that small black panel on tail tip leading edge. I do not think there are any other black panel on the T'jet.

Hmmm. That is strange but there is even no English language wiki page about him. However Polish language page explicitly says he was the principal engineer (główny konstruktor) of Sanders-Roe and then of Westland helicopter division.

As a part of today's painting session I've done the strengthening tape on the canopy:
I mixed Vallejo off-white with Vallejo grey primer to get the colour. I like the result
Now I will cover this with future and seal back until full paint work is complete.

I've had a massive painting session today and here is one of the results: painted HVAR projectiles.

Hi Everyone,
Here is a model I finished in the end of 2023. As sunny spring days started - now it becomes easier to make photosessions so I'll try to catch up with some more models completed in 2023.
No surprise - it is a classical Trumpeter 1/72 kit of a venerable USAF aircraft that saw super extensive use in the war in Vietnam - naturally in its classical SEA camo scheme.
What I've chosen as a prototype - is a fairly well known F-105D of 354th TFS/355th TFW stationed at Takhli airbase in Thailand in circa 1967. This particular aircraft was decorated with a 'Honeypot II' nick name and had one MiG interception marking. Main duty of 355th Fighter Wing in Vietnam was carrying bombing missions from Thailand to various targets across North Vietnam. Something 355th TFW was doing for five long years between 1966 and 1970.
I've long been thinking of more unusual bombload options but after all stopped with a very classical option of 6 mk.82 bombs on the fuselage MER, a Sidewinder on a starboard wing and a jamming pod on the port wing.
Trumpeter kit is fairly simple and straightforward if built out of the box. However I did not look for easy paths and brought some aftermarket stuff and scratch built mods. First of all I obtained and used Aires cockpit set. It worked quite finely. It did require cleaning and thinning fuselage sides but at the end sat properly into right place. Cockpit set had enough photoetch parts to get even nicer result with detailed instrument panel, seat harness, etc. Other aftermarket mods included Quickboost afterburner air intakes, ventral fin, coloured wing tips, Master pitot tube, Reskit wheels. All worked finely except for wing tips which turned out to be thinner than the wing and I spent quite a lot of time sanding and puttying the joint line.
Hand-made mods included some decorations in main gear bays, new centerline pylon and reinforcement stripes for MER, new pylon for Sidewinder, some minor additions such as internal side of speed brake behind the tail, correct positioning of engine pipe (Trumpeter suggests to put it too deeply), couple of antennae. I used Hasegawa weapon sets to get MER, mk.82 bombs, jamming pod and a Sidewinder.
Paints are typical Hobby Color for SEA camo. Brown colour is heavily whitened H310. H303 and H309 for greens. H311 for FS36622. Undercarriage bays are vallejo green zinc chromate. Jamming pod and AIM-9 are painted Vallejo white. Decals are from PrintScale. I was very cautious about using them but in fact they turned out quite okay. Thin, strong - did not break apart. Despite experience of other modellers, they did not tend to wrap around themselves. So I was positively impressed. Printscale set also had necessary stencils so I do not think I used any original Trumpeter decals. Some final touches were made with Tamiya pigments to add a little dirty look especially on the undersides.

Well... I'd probably start with one kit. Scout probably. And then I'll see if it is very good I'll go for Wasp. And anyway - some resin armament with appropriate pylons would be very very welcome!

I work at the Army Flying Museum where we have a Scout fitted with missiles, so I know what the pylons look like. As for the stretcher pods they just clamped to the undercarriage horizontal members.
Thank you. I see. I agree part 39 is a missile rack. Still looks like no missile pylons... Good news - resin missiles are available from LF.
