  1. Hate to lose you Fox. Would love to follow your build. Maybe another forum??...
  2. Fantastic-you're waaaay ahead of me. Sometime, please display one in a car and post.
  3. Apropos of nothing - the thought struck me that a 1/8 scratch built replica of your favorite guitar would look marvelous in the boot of this car-if it fits! And if not, certainly in your Torpedo rear seat...
  4. Can't answer you exact question but is this a better price for the 1/12 than you've found, after conversion to pound? http://www.diecast.org/diecast98/html/asp/list_reviews/xq/ASP/id.MP530-133131/qx/reviewpix.htm
  5. One of my all-time faves, done beautifully. Great job on this very old tooling. I love the up-top look. I picture this as a 1/8 scale Pocher and my eyes glaze over.... Like my avatar!
  6. And when you awake, you'll want aftermarket parts and / or a ton of material and tools to scratch build and correct flaws. Figure 2 to 3 times the cost of the initial purchase...
  7. Having built the Alfa and now the Sedanca, I'd say in order of complexity, easiest to most difficult: The Fiat The Sedanca Alfa The Torpedo 540 Benz Bugatti ALL of them have flaws and silly compromises by Pocher, some more egregious than others. None are shake and bake projects. You need a vision of what you want and a determination to trust your skills. I agree 100% and Roy states this perfectly: "The Aventador is great. Amazing in fact. BUT - There's something about a classic car that makes a lovely display piece, particularly at this scale. Lambo's, Ferraris etc are stunning in real life but as a 1/8 display piece, they are a bit boring to look at. Too 'smooth' and 'flash' if you get my drift. The classic cars have character in spades."
  8. Fox, I'm well aware of your build and regret that you're having such photo troubles. I would have helped but I do exactly as the boys advised you to try with P'bucket. Perhaps you should try Flick'r, which is supposed to be easier. If your problem is here on BM, perhaps a PM to the Mods would help. I am MOST anxious to see your Roller and let me tell you, Roy's 'India' is a great tutorial to help visualize construction and beautiful work. You're very kind but no one has ever accused me of 'brilliant' anything. I'm trying to push my 'envelope' as this is the most complex project I've done (aside from my 1:1) and may probably be my last build. I've wanted this model since they were new in the '70's. The colors? I just love combinations of deep ruby maroon and tans / yellows. Bought a million spray cans to test until I hit just these. All the Pochers I've seen have very varied schemes so anything goes. The 1:1's I've seen have a lot of maroon / blacks. You're correct about the interior-it's junk. I've already collected the carpet from a dollhouse supplier and have visualized how I will build the seats. I'm still searching for scale Haartz cloth for the top. Roy did a fantastic thing with the woodgrain effect and fabrics-don't miss his build. Build what pleases you-the model will knock you out when finished. As Sting sang; 'I'll be watching you...'
  9. Finish befitting a mufti-million pound / dollar / peso car! Must be very hard to polish in those scoops, slots and around lights. Excellent craftsmanship! BTW-please post a link here to your Su-27 build; I'm a HUGE Flanker fan, but never built one. The freeze plugs? First scuffed the black plastic with scuff pad. Then: rub with graphite powder; brush acrylics: ivory, 'sand' color, 2 browns, black, green. Smush some together with Windex and vary from solid to wash; a touch of Rub 'n Buff on an edge or two, thinned with enamel reducer. Use lot's of imagination and look at old leaky crocks. Not for neat-freaks. Glad you like.
  10. Patience of a saint... Roy, What brand and type is your 'satin black' of choice? It's very 'luxurious'.
  11. Interesting. I never saw a 2-part in one can. I will search it here on my side of the pond. I know you use it on Halfords but I have Tamiya, Duplicolor and Krylon (all lacquers) here. Would have to test compatibility. Thanks Roy.
  12. I have read some mixed web comments on U-Pol High-Gloss clear coat. Anyone here use it and love / hate it?
  13. Having seen other builds, I had a sense of that. However, 'too simple' is a relative term; it may be too simple for a builder of your caliber...
  14. Breathtaking-thanks for the explanation.
  15. Upon further review... After a restless nights sleep, I decided I wasn't happy with the above terminal ends and wires. They were just too 'clunky'. I'm my own worst enemy... I wish I was one of those craftsmanship-type guys that can scratch built faultlessly on the first attempt. I always have to make 2 or 3 to keep one of anything. One thing I missed pointing out is that casting boss on the rear engine mount that the magneto now bolts to. It's tubing faired with Bondo and 00-90 hardware atop. I actually have reference for this. This prevents the mag from 'floating' atop the mount. Herewith; these wires are .020", not the previous .040". The end connectors are .072" soldier, crimped, drilled, filed and end-drilled .039" to accept the wire. Then a touch of flux and the hot iron to mate them. Painted on black insulation, painted red, yellow and black wires, wrapped in electrical tape, cut thin and wrapped. The pigtail will hide in the chassis. Eight more hours of insanity... Worth it or a waste-you tell me:
  16. Cosmo, Is the construction all styrene? Are those long jib sections made of metal tubing with styrene bracing? Or is that butt-joined at each section? If so, how?? I never saw all styrene in lengths like that...
  17. Thanks Sarge but I wish the Force could help me...
  18. Welcome aboard-can never have too many Sedancas. We both have a tough row to hoe since Mattblack set the bar so high with his 'India' Torpedo. Here's mine and would love to compare war stories with you. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234961409-a-big-rolls-royce/ I've got a 95% complete chassis but am wrestling with engine detail now. I'm sure you'll be driving yours before I get it on its feet. Plenty of photos please and I'll be stealing--er-observing your ideas.
  19. Ahh, great minds... I discovered this resource about a month ago. I ordered doll house carpet for the Rolls and love its scale look. Not ready by a long shot, but glad I have it on hand. Your usual off-the-charts skills are evident. Keep entertaining us....
  20. Great project and beautiful craftsmanship. Hope you have a large display area! Love to see the result.
  21. Didn't you start this one instead of the Alfa to avoid another case of 'Pocher-itis'?? Welcome to Pocher-itis 2.0....
  22. Getting more stupid now... Figured a way to waste more time. Rather than steam my way through assembly of big engine chunks, I finally found a way to make 'closer' connectors for the generator wires and plug wires. Straight out of the Rube Goldberg manual... Not having any ally or brass tube around, I went to 1/16" styrene tube. After much fumbling, fidgeting, sanding, crimping and drilling-voila. No they're not exact replicas but a lick of black for the shrink tube and a dab of silver or BMF, and they'll satisfy me. That's a 2mm wide 00-90 nut and the wires: On the generator are the three terminals with 00-90 nut. The black 'insulator' will come off when these go on. Now only 13 more to make.
