  1. UPDATE 19/04 This is the sum total of my progress so far, not very much! I have cemented the outer parts of the air intakes to the fuselage and am pleased with the results I have also filled some of the panels on the nose which applied to the prototype only, here is a before (sanding) and after comparison shot, unfortunately I used Tamiya putty which is very close to the colour of the plastic so the filled in panel lines do not show up too much. There are more unwanted panel lines on the top of the nose but theses will be dealt with when the fuselage halves are joined. I have given the major components of the Renaissance cockpit set a coating of the ever popular (with me anyway) Halfords grey plastic primer. You can see that the detail on the rear cockpit wall is pretty impressive and there are still some etched parts to add to it. The Renaissance resin is quite brittle so has to be handled carefully, and there are pinholes to be dealt with, one of which is right at the top of the port canopy breaker on the ejection seat, so I will attempt to add a blob of CA and sand it to shape. There is also an impressive etched fret, which I have forgotten to photograph (next time) which includes the grills which will cover the exposed wiring/cables in the recesses in the cockpit coaming. Well, that's about it for now. Thanks for looking in John
  2. I echo all the above comments very nice job. I've not seen those markings before, they're really attractive.
  3. I forgot to say earlier, being distracted by the spinning props, that I often cement the tailplanes first if they are flat, and then align the wings using them as a reference. Going back to my youf, I lived just outside Wrexham in N Wales and there were two model shops and a Woolworths, I used to gaze through the windows at the Airfix Lancaster and B-17 but could never manage to save my two and sixpence pocket money for 3 weeks to afford the seven and sixpence purchase price. Anyone under 40, get your Dad to explain old money.
  4. Do you spin them with your fingers or blow? I went through a phase when it didn't matter, but now I'm reaching my 2nd childhood ( so I'm told ) I like them spinning again. Cheers John
  5. Great cockpit. I have one of those in the stash too, with the Eduard cockpit set. When I can pluck up enough courage I pan to slice off the side consol knobs ( well the large ones at least ) and stick them on the Eduard consoles. Watching this with interest and hoping to pick up a few tips. Regards John
  6. I had a nice set of soft handled clothes pegs, but SWMBO used them to hang up the washing and now the springs have all gone rusty.
  7. Not seen that film before, there's lots of useful detail even in black and white.
  8. Clothes pegs eh? You know you've been modelling too long.....
  9. Looks good to me, perhaps a little shiny, but they probably were in that period.
  10. I have not tried the micro- fabric seat belts yet, I'm still using up my stock of Eduard etched belts. The problem I find with these is that they do not hang naturally against the seat back and end up hanging in space, and even after glueing tend to ping off after a time. I have some HGW and RB 1/32 sets waiting to be used, and I hope that being "textile" they will not need sticking to the seat back, we shall see. John
  11. I will ask my IT dept. (SWMBO) to have a look at it. Thanks for that. Cheers John
  12. The cockpits look great. It must be fun putting those seat belts together in 1/72 scale, I have enough problems with 1/48!
  13. I see on lots of other peoples' posts that they are showing both the French Fancy and Battle of Britain group build banners. I have just been trying to put these into my signature but the system will only allow me to put one and if I try to add another I get an error message saying I have exceeded the space allowed. HELP!!
  14. Hi Srew, I've been looking through my old Spitfire at war books and in Vol 3 there is a section called "Better fitted for the fight" which has a reproduction of the questionnaire filled in by Bob Stanford-Tuck after he tried out the two step rudder mod. It is dated 23/07/40 and the following text states that new style rudder pedals were fitted to all new aircraft after that and also retro-fitted to existing ones. Hope this is of interest to you. Regards John
  15. Perhaps Tamia did not include the radiator flap operating mechanism and bracing because they (wrongly) thought that they would not be visible when completed. The radiator faces look great, it looks like it was it a very time consuming and fiddley job, well done. Regards John EDIT Just seen that I can't spell Tamiya, I blame the bl**dy predictive text!
  16. Obviously not the easiest of kits to put together, but you are doing a great job. I have an Airfix Sue which I considered for the French Fancy GB but decided that the Italeri Mirage 2000 would cause me less pain. Bon courage John
  17. It's possible that the control surfaces were left unpainted I suppose, there are definitely differences in your photos. I used to work with a couple of Javelin navs but it's too late to ask them now. Cheers John
  18. Hi Julian, Ditto to all the above, I had forgotten about this one. John PS Havn't I seen that " blackman " rolling bits of Corsair around?
  19. Not my scale, too small for me but I can't resist a Spitfire thread. Does three in 1/72 equal one in 1/32 scale? I am researching for my B of B GB 1/32 Revell/ Hasegawa Spitfire which will almost certainly be a 222 sqdn machine in mid 1940 and you have already answered my question about the seat. According to SAM' Camouflage & Markings Vol 2 both Eau de Nil and Sky blue may have been used by 222 sqdn in mid 1940 so I will have a choice, but how do I find out which aircraft where painted what colour? Cheers John PS Like the cockpit colour.
  20. Great work on the tonal variation, but was your work necessary? I thought that the Javelin underside ( like the early Hunters) was painted " High Speed Silver" but I could be wrong. Best regards John
  21. I like what you've done with the seats, especially the pull handles, but there is one small error, I think. Not all of the straps from the back pack were the same colour. If you look at Breaker's thread on the Javelin, in post 29 Selwin explains why. John PS I am glad that you like the British sense of humour, in a village near us there are two ( French) sisters who love reciting scenes from Inspector Clouseau films complete with mangled French accents!
  22. It's too late now it I would have suggested glueing the upper wing surfaces first, which is what I intend to do with the Mirage 2000. Having said that, I tried it with a Heller Mirage III several years ago and it didn't work out too well, but that was probably my fault. The intake arrangement sounds like a real PITA, perhaps someone will come up with some complete resin intakes, but it shouldn't really be necessary in a modern kit. I think I've changed my mind about wanting one of these, but then again, if they do a 2 seater.....
