  1. Thank you Paul. I'm going to use one of the colour schemes from the decal sheet below. I think I will go for the Australian yellow Walrus. I'm slow builder, so want to keep it simple. But, the Argentinian one looks tempting.
  2. With the arrival of the Airfix Walrus and after a chat with Jaime, I'm putting this build on hold, and starting my Walrus. Sorry for any inconvenience. Thank you Jaime. Joe.
  3. Hello gentlemen, The Airfix Walrus was what I intended to build for this group build. But as it looked a long way off I decided to build a Aichi Seiran instead. With the Walrus now available, I had a chat with Jaime and decided to put the Seiran on hold and start the Walrus now. I'll take a few photos of the kit sprues and post them tomorrow. Thank you, Joe.
  4. Ah, I got the factory wrong. It was definitely the Pompey train I was on.
  5. Hello Ced, I'm late again. I do admire you for building old kits and making such a good job of them. I had this one years ago. If I remember correctly, I think I got it in Woolworths just off Trafalgar Square. This was back in the 60's. I think we also passed the Airfix factory on the train going home to Portsmouth. But that was a few years, and a few gallons of falling down water has been consumed since, so I might have got it all wrong. Joe.
  6. Very nice. It was not until I looked at the box art on the side, that I remembered Yuri Gagarin landed by parachute, and not in the Vostok spacecraft.
  7. Your more than welcome Simon I'm not the fastest of model makers, so you might find the going slow. But please feel free to drop in and have a say. Thank you, Joe.
  8. Hi Jaime, thank you. Sorry it's slow going. I don't know what happened in my last post. The words look really large. I must have pressed something with my fat fingers.
  9. Thanks Ced. Good to see you've got one under your belt. I've started to clean up the parts I've glued together. I used a scraper to clean the seams off, then finished off with micro-mesh. I used an homemade sanding board to clean off the leading edge of the wing. Doing it this way leaves a nice straight edge. I only take off the minimum, or the edge will start to look flat. Hopefully, I will make a start on the cockpit next week. I will also take an off cut from the decal sheet to see if they are still useable. In the meantime, I can prime the parts I've glued together. Thanks for looking, Joe.
  10. Very nice Ced, looks really nice. I noticed you visited the museum at Southampton, that's not far from my where I work. Whats your next build. Joe. 🙂
  11. This appeared on the TamiyaBlog. https://tamiyablog.com
  12. And I thought it was the Infantry that fought in squares I'm sorry, I really don't know. Maybe someone else on britmodeller can shed some light on it ?
  13. Not sure if this has been already posted. My apologies if it has. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10489819 New tool HMS Ark Royal 1939
  14. Hello Rob, nice to hear from you. Thanks, I was hoping to get some more done this week, but it never happened. It will be next week now. Joe.
  15. Thank you Tony. Hi Jaime, thank you. The fit looks very good so far.
  16. Hello gentlemen, I've made a start by test fitting some of the main parts, and gluing together a few bits and pieces. The weight supplied with the model goes in one of the floats. I taped the wings and floats on the fuselage to get an idea of the finished model and to test fit the parts. Next, I've glued a few of the parts together ready for the seams to be sanded down before spraying with a primer. I used a combination of Tamiya Liquid Cemant and Revell Contacta Cement. When gluing the main sections together, I normally use the Revell glue. I run a bead of adhesive along both the joining surfaces, then squeeze the parts gently together. This leaves a small continuous line of glue raised above the surface (see photo above). This is left overnight to harden. After it's cleaned off and sanded smooth, hopefully no more attention will be needed on the join line as the glue has filled any gaps. Thanks for looking, Joe.
  17. Great fast progress Ced. I'm still looking at mine.
  18. What a bargain beast. I looked at the dimensions on the Revell site, It really is big. I'll look forward to your build. Joe.
  19. Hello gentlemen, here are the first photos of my build. Below is a model of the submarine that the Aichi Seiran operated from. I made this model when it was first released in 2007. All the the images were posted via imgur with the text on the photos being added with the aid Snapseed. Thanks for looking, Joe.
  20. They're not wrong Ray. The QANTAS scheme will look superb.
  21. Very nice. Are you joining the group Ray, or are you already on board? (Or should it be afloat?).
  22. Nice to see a Matchbox kit in the group Tony. Far to much work for a lightweight like me, but I'm sure you will make an excellent job of it. Looking forward to your build. Joe.
