  1. Loren generally no there is no screening to flood vents, a good source of reference photos can be found here http://www.navsource.org/archives/08/04idx.htm All the best Chris
  2. The best reference is underwater warriors by Paul Kemp, the charges were assembled and released as a complete unit (saddle tank) per side. X3 and X4 were the prototype boats X5 to X10 were the first batch with differences from the prototype and a number of colour schemes X20 t0 X25 were the second batch with more variations and the first to be painted all over black. XT's were the training class XE's were enlarged for pacific operations. Post war was the Stickleback class which was larger still were the side charges were to be atomic mines. HMS Stickleback is on display with the rudder and dive planes 90 degrees out still, despite numerous messages, (cock up by the imperial war museum). a good reference is http://rnsubs.co.uk/boats/subs/x-craft.html all the best Chris
  3. Definitely type XXI ww2 german electroboot, revell 1/144 or dragon or afv club 1/350 regards Chris
  4. Sorry only just seen this Dave. Heres a link to a useful website for US subs http://www.navsource.org/archives/08/08571.htm I can confirm the Thresher was black topside and red anti fouling below from mid way down on the hull The swap to black topside seems to be around 1965, but not all subs adopted it, for example Triton remained in her grey top and black anti fouling until her decommissioning. Skipjacks adopted this, photos from 1965 show this Be aware that the deck planking/walkways were always matt black, being non slip paintwork. Hope this helps all the best Chris
  5. As a submarine modeller, i prefer full hull, but i have a number of waterline kits as they are the only example available so i build a mix. All the best Chris
  6. Here we have Imai's Spectrum Passenger Jet from Captain Scarlet, a fun build, changed from the model toy with firing missiles and a suspect undercarriage. Some filling, scratch built canopy and old decals with paint touch up, all hand painted in Humbrol enamels. All the best Chris
  7. Very nicely done NIge, this is one i keep toying with doing with the revell 1/48 kit, when i get one cheap enough, (still cheaper than the Warp kit). Well done, love it. All the best Chris
  8. Just had my pre order for Trumpeter's new Chinese 1/72 submersible kits, Fen Dou Zhe & Shen Hai Yong Shi, cancelled due to covid in China. Will just have to wait for them to be released, was looking forward to building some research subs. All the best Chris
  9. Cracking job Notty, well done, got the weathering spot on. All the best Chris
  10. Cracking job Kallisti, well done on the gloss black finish, looks really good. All the best Chris
  11. Hi Mark, Combrig models are your best source for WW1 u-boats in 1/350, they do 1/700 as well. There are a few OOP ones floating around as well by people such as Yankee Modelworks. Heres a link to Combrig https://combrig-models.com/index.php/products/1350/german-navy-350 All the best Chris
  12. Hi Mark RN WW2 submarines in 1/350 are a bit thin on the ground. Starling models do excellent S & T class whole hull models which i would add to your stash and build up to them. There was a russian produced resin U-class in 1/350 again a lot of work also someone else produced one. Mirage hobby do a variety of U-Class in 1/400 which are relatively cheap and i would recommend them as a start to practice on, they do contain PE. There is HMS Undine (pick up the one with the resin bow), also ORP Sokol is a U-class which you can use to depict other boats. There are some oop resin models in 1/400. If you need any reference material drop me a line. I have on the go a build of HMS Upholder in 1/400 where i am correcting the Mirage kit to depict here more accurately. All the best Chris
  13. Subs and sci fi, right up my alley, well done JJ. all the best Chris
  14. Cracking job Josep, it looks the part, well done. All the best Chris
  15. Very nicely done Tim, look forward to seeing the finished result. Of note the USS Minneapolis didnt stand a chance as the I-58, which sank her with torpedos, also had a full compliment of 5 Kaiten on deck. All the best Chris
  16. Achim thats great work, weathered the right amount and in the right places. A superb job, well done. All the best Chris
  17. Great diversity there Bertie, cracking job on the figures. All the best Chris
  18. Great selection of models, always love to see your sci-fi stuff especially. All the best Chris
  19. Well another year nearly over, Not as many models finished as i would have liked due to life getting in the way. Any way heres my 2022 output so far. Starting with a U-Wing from Star Wars, Rogue One Next up is a Scorpion Fighter from Star Trek Nemesis Followed by USS Barbel, Americas last diesel powered sub. A Japanese car ferry called Sunflower II Kylo Ren's shuttle from Star Wars The Force Awakens & The Last Jedi Dastardly and Muttley - six month club challenge. Sleeping Beauty - Submersible Motorised Canoe And finally a diorama inspired by a certain Youtube video, The Budding Test Pilot, which some of you may have seen at SMW 2022, Telford All the best and happy modelling, Chris.
  20. The kit has been available on ebay for a while, ive been tempted but will have to save my pennies as it is £80 to buy, plus 1/200 is an odd scale to match with other subs. The Nichimo I-19 and Riich's Gato are in this scale, whereas other nuclear boats are in 1/144. The biodegradable label just means if you bring it into contact with micro organisms, such as those in soil, it will break down. But if its sealed with a clear cote i cant see a problem. All the best Chris
  21. Very nicely done, did you scratch build an interior for it? All the best Chris
  22. Cracking job, well done Rob, amazing seascape. all the best Chris
  23. Cracking job, Kallisti, a coincidence as i have just watched the episode with the hawks (Wargames), well done. All the best Chris
  24. Another one off the production line, 1/96 scale Kylo Ren's shuttle by Revell from the recent Star Wars movies. Hand painted in satin black enamel (a task in itself lol) with details/lights painted in enamels. Its a fair size (see last pic) Went together relatively well, no filler needed. Comes with a working access ramp below, sadly missing some detail to the upper wings, which cannot be posed, one position only. There is an aftermarket kit for putting them in the V flight position. A relatively quick build for me, something different from the dark side, of submarines and sci-fi modelling. All the best Chris
