  1. At least it flew successfully and looked good - quite unlike the EuroHawk, which is/was another completely ill-managed German military project resulting in huge cost to the taxpayer with no return... so will never make the 50+ 😉
  2. It looks to have "webs" between the cowl flaps - I could get out one of my numerous Hellcat references but am too busy - were those retained on later production?
  3. The machine next in line has what looks to be the same colour paint (as the tail section) on all visible undersurfaces. It may well be a primer, but given your comments about colour shift in German colour pics upthread, I wonder if 76 should be categorically ruled out.
  4. Pat Lloyd drew the 1 as 201mm including pitot over the longitudinal datum, as did Mike Keep. This is 1447mm in full scale, or 47.48 ft. Edit: Found SAM 20/3, in which Mark Rolfe drew the 2 as 204mm.
  5. Lovely! What's the grey? It looks a bit pale for ADC to my eye.
  6. My point solely was that the mid fuselage is not 76, as the tail appears to be that, but some darker (blue-)grey. Given the contrast of it to the wings, quite likely not 74 or 75... Indeed, as you say - why add a couple of kg for an undercoat if a self-priming paint was available. But then the undercoat may (may) have enabled a thinner coat of the camo paints, netting out at 0.
  7. The photo posted upthread by @Duggy suggests the vertical tail and tailplane undersides were 76 (if the one behind it has 76 undersides), with the centre fuselage possibly being one of the topside greys.
  8. That looks like some black rubberish anti-abrasive coating?
  9. May you be confusing this with 83, I wonder (Dark Blue)? If there was a paint formula obviating the need for primer (early on), it would have made a lot of sense to have all paint by all manufacturers to this standard, give or take any patents. The planners were well aware of potential and actual raw material shortages, in particular anything petroleum-based. Still, I neither see 02 or 76 on the fuselages upthread, but that may be my personal perception.
  10. Armée de l'Air or RNorAF. Possibly the type/engine gives a clue.
  11. I'd take 7125.65 and 7125.76, the latter replacing the former, to be a special purpose paint in 65 and 76 tones, respectively?
  12. You're a cruel person...
  13. There was also a pretty nice booklet by HT from Slovakia (most of it in colour) and the 4+, which is very hard to find.
  14. Indeed, the Zap Flaps, of which the MBI makes quite a feature.
  15. I've dug out my AMT P-40N - as you say, white tail, no serial, no tactical #, "serial unknown" as per the instructions. Sharkmouth and "Rosie" quite possibly from the AMT decals, but - one of the bigger differences between the AMT and Mauve moulds is that the former has the "hole" at the lower rudder leading edge just behind that "shelf" above the tailplane as an indentation only, while Mauve has a proper "hole". I can't tell from your pic whether there's a hole, but it looks more like black paint in the recess. Another difference is that the AMT has the cowling panels around the exhausts as separate parts, but you'd need to get close to the model to see whether there are traces of a separate part. I googled "1/48 Rosie the Riviter decals P-40N", but did not spot anything - so I suppose hybrid AMT and whoknowswhat. Well, it's almost the same for me @ 250km single, but as I couldn't go last year, there will be few things to keep me away this time. I guess Mario will be there, too - and it would be great to not only meet on the various fora, time after time 😉
  16. If I remember the old MBI booklet correctly - yes, but it's been almost 30 years since I read it. 30 years, can that be true???
  17. I see a larger forward sweep of the T/E than sweep of the L/E - which tallies with the description abov for "early"? -- The Revell kit predates the move of CF-ALX by more than a decade. As it was designed by Axel Dietz, a former Plasticart employee, it may have its roots even earlier - in 1983 (or 4), it was rumoured in the Nuremberg report of a German mag that Plasticart would bring a 1/72 F.13; which never happened in the plastic, but he may have done the research in the early 80s.
  18. B/C = III; D = IV, K = IVa I better say nothing re anything earlier, as I can neither keep the US versions in my brains nor their proper correlation to the RAF Mk numbers... If I'm not mistaken, there was a pretty decent Ia (?, the one with four wing cannon) by a Czech manufacturer in the mid 90s.
  19. Revell has a Mustang III boxing of their mid 90s mould. I am aware it has some deficiencies, but I think builds up well enough, and should be available at a decent price. The "intermediate" (1974ish) Airfix P-51D came with the Aeroproducts prop for a IVa and RAAF decals.
  20. Not that sure - #5 (and 10) look(s) a bit like it, but the others not that much. @JWM - is this pic in the relatively recent MMP book on the 11? It's high on my list...even though I have the AJ's. The MMP volume on the Karas is pretty much excellent, and I hope the one on the 11 follows up.
  21. As far as I'm aware, there were only the one you mentioned (Spanish language only) and the US/Soviet volume - the one on German and Italian types apparently being cancelled. They should be available on the usual 2nd hand book sites @ the EUR 50 mark delivered, but mostly from Spain, and it usually takes a bit of nudging to have something from Spain delivered to Central Europe. I have two copies of the US/Soviet volume (in English), so I can spare one if you're interested.
  22. How about "World Aviation in Spain - US and Soviet" by Miranda/Mercado? It may be a bit dated @ close to 40 years, but overall a reference to have on the shelf (together with the untranslated "British, Polish and Czech" volume).
  23. Hmmm... but since introduction of the unified system, all types existing as single and twin seater ALWAYS (I think - with one exception) have had the single seat version(s) using the uneven letters, and the twins the even ones. Well, apart from the F-15E, that is... so the system abuse started some 40 years ago.
