Hello dear friends, Here is something new and very special, but also far from over... DIRTY DANES - Royal Danish Air Force DARK GREEN COLD WARRIORS RDAF began to paint its aircraft in the standard colour known as SM/67, olive green (matt), during late the 1960’s. Even though it is finished in just one color, the paint faded quite rapidly and unfortunately gave the aircraft an untidy appearance, although they were in fact very well maintained. The weak matt paint durability problem was solved during the late 1970’s when aircraft were re-painted in an extremely gloss variant of the same colour, but this clearly reduced the camouflage efficiency due to the monotone high shine of the aircraft surfaces. This set will give you options to build almost any Dark Green aircraft in Danish service, but there will be 7 very special subjects - zapped Danish warriors. ‘Zapping’ is an old tradition among air forces, where a graffiti, slogan, sticker or emblem is applied to another units aircraft, in the spirit of rivalry and humour. Some countries removed the ‘Zaps’ as soon as possible, but the Danes had a sympathetic & tolerant perspective on the practice. Some ‘Zaps’ have been present on Danish aircraft for many years. MiG-23MF Flogger-B (2666), Syrian Arab Air Force, Hama AB, Syria, 2017. Hello dear friends. This is the first bonus subject for the PaulusVictor Syrian Veterans set. You will not find instructions for this one in your set, but you can use available decals from the envelope to build it as an alternative to existing subjects. MiG-23MF 2666 was based at Hama Air Base, served during Syrian conflict for many years and was visible on several video clips from the period 2014-2017. In every single available video clip or photo 2666 was primarily dedicated to air-to-ground operations, armed with unguided bombs and/or forward firing rocket pods. This MiG-23MF just like many others has been repaired with a spare canopy from another MiG-23MF. It is easy to recognize the different color shades. This MiG-23MF had an improvised paint scheme, but the colors were more or less standard. You will find more info about the colors in the instructions of the Syrian Veterans decal set. NOTES FOR SCALE MODELERS: Most of the MiG-23MF kits just like every other MiG-23 version in all scales have some serious shape and detail accuracy issues. Check your kit and compare it with photos and drawings. The usual problems are in the nose area, shape of the intakes, tail shape, air brakes, panel layout and similar. Hello... I have one question about Freedom model kits decals... I bought this BEAUTIFUL kit, but the decals in it are one of the thickest decals I have ever seen. I mean - Hesegawa or Tamiya decals are a joke - super thin compared to this. Has anybody ever tried to work with Freedom kits decals? How to use them? I really wanted this limited edition boxing because I like these markings, and there is no alternative.

Despite heavy losses in the last decade, there are some left operational. This MiG-23MF has been repaired with a spare canopy from another MiG-23MF. It is easy to recognize the different color shades. The radome was heavily weathered with many paint touch-ups. The rest of the colors do not appear to be so bright like the standard orange sand and blue green seen on many other MiGs. Locally developed flare dispensers were fitted on both sides of the tail fin. NOTES FOR SCALE MODELERS: Most of the MiG-23MF kits just like every other MiG-23 versions in all scales have some serious shape and detail accuracy issues. I often get questions about the correct version of Harrier that was used in the Desert Storm and exactly which model kit to buy. This small and basic guide is in the DESERT HARRIERS decal set instructions, but I’ll be happy to share it here. This will help you to choose the correct kit for this decal set and/or make corrections when/if needed. In 1/72 and 1/48 Hasegawa AV-8B models are the best kits, however they are not always easy to find (NOTE: don't buy AV-8B Night Attack, AV-8B PLUS or British GR.5/7/9 Harrier kits). Alternatives to Hasegawa are often old or inaccurate models. In the 1/144 scale, Dragon kits are the most accurate (but old) choice - which can also be found in old Revell packages. Here is one more subject from our First responders set dedicated to old UH-1 Hueys and their crews that were on the scene in front of the Pentagon on 9/11/2001 The Helicopters with painted white roofs are in general very rare and unique. They appeared during 1960s-1970s for one practical reason; transport of VIP personnel. Since there were no air-conditioning devices in most helicopters at that time, the application of white color on the roof surface, as opposed to drab, helped to maintain a more suitable cabin temperature for flying during warmer days. These choppers with their distinctive paint scheme came to be known as “White tops” and would later be used to designate helicopters primarily used for VIP transport. Located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, about 12 miles from the Pentagon, the 12th Aviation Battalion was the prime provider of airlift support for the Military District of Washington and the Joint Forces Headquarters-National Capital Region. Although the unit also operated conventional UH-1H & UH-1V Hueys, their VIP Huey fleet, known as “White Tops,” were some of the most luxurious helicopters in service a few decades ago. They were modified considerably with executive interiors, extra soundproofing and numerous additional features, and required more rigorous maintenance procedures. Transporting high ranking personnel was not the only mission of the 12th Aviation Battalion. Their secondary mission was evacuating defense officials from Washington in the event of a national emergency, like the one from 9/11/2001. Hello dear Friends, This is another subject in our First responders set dedicated to old UH-1 Hueys and their crews that were on the scene in front of the Pentagon on 9/11/2001 On September 11, 2001, hijackers crashed a U.S. passenger airliner, American Flight 77, into the Pentagon, headquarters of the United States Department of Defense near Washington D.C. Bell UH-1V 70-16372 was the second D.C. National guard Huey in front of the Pentagon 09/11/2001 as part of the 121st Medical Company (AA). This one is pretty interesting. Installed heat suppression equipment and white codes on the chin bubble were very unusual for a D.C. National Guard Huey at that time. This helicopter was likely used in an operational environment previously and retained these features. 70-16372 did not serve in the D.C. guard long after 9/11, but this Huey was a very important part of the search and rescue operations during 9/11 and several days after. McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II - 163181 VMA-311 Tomcats, WL-02, Desert Shield / Desert Storm 1990-1991. AV-8Bs of VMA-311 ‘Tomcats’ became the first Harrier II unit committed to Desert Shield. The squadron left it’s home base of MCAS Yuma on 15 August 1990 and flew to MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, where its jets were repainted with a gray camouflage scheme and final maintenance was completed. At about 22:00 hrs on the 18th they left Cherry Point for a night flight with 11 refuelling’s across the Atlantic to Rota, Spain. From Rota they flew on to Bahrain, then after some time moved to Saudi Arabia, close to the Kuwait border. On January 17, 1991 while in support of Operation Desert Storm the squadron became the first to utilize the AV-8B in combat when a flight of four Harriers destroyed an Iraqi artillery position in support of the Battle of Khafji. https://www.flickr.com/photos/billword/28578739694/sizes/o/ NOTES FOR SCALE MODELERS: After their flight to Cherry Point from Yuma, the dark gray and green Harriers had only a few days in Cherry Point to prepare. Tomcats lined their AV-8Bs up, taped them up and spray-painted them as quick as possible. They used light gray over the green. Dark gray areas were not repainted. That is why all dark gray areas had all the original stencils, while light gray areas had only some of them (most of the small ones were overpainted and never restored). Some of the stencils like the ones on the jet intakes were masked completely, so all the letters within the black bands were still in their original green or dark gray color (even if the surrounding area were repainted to light gray.) Intake interiors were most likely not repainted to white as seen on some AV-8B’s of other units. WMA-311 AV-8B’s were all painted in a similar way, but they were not exactly the same in their appearance. Camouflage pattern and stencil appearance may vary from airframe to airframe. But they were neat and had consistent standardized color shades. Rear nozzles were burnt metal in color. Front nozzles were light gray on the outside and burnt metal color on the inside. Heat shields at the rear nozzles were titanium. Pitot tubes and AOA probes were not painted and were in original metal color. MiG-21bis Fishbed-L (2306), Syrian Arab Air Force, Hama AB, Syria, 2015. This Mig-21bis was delivered to SyAAF in early 1980's. Initially the MiG-21 fleet was to be decommissioned in 2011, however due to the recent Conflict, SyAAF Command postponed the Mig-21’s retirement. The SyAAF’s maintenance personel and logistical support operation played an important role in ensuring the ageing MiGs could not only be kept flying but also so consistently. All of Syria’s MiG-21s have been overhauled locally. When completed, the aircraft gets Jets Refurbishment Plant logo applied to it. This MiG-21bis has been repaired with a spare wing from another MiG-21. It is easy to recognize the poor wing fit and the different color shades of the wing and body. There are green and orange-sand color demarcation lines that also do not match. That was probably done long after the major overhaul. This MiG was heavily weathered with faded paint and markings. The Syrian MiG-21s were primarily dedicated to air-to-ground operations, armed with locally manufactured unguided bombs and/or forward firing rocket pods. Some MiG-21 aircraft also had locally improvised two flare dispensers each positioned underneath the aircraft at the rear of the fuselage, but not this one which is very unusual. MiGs operated short distances from their air bases, which reduced their need to carry drop tanks. It is suggested each aircraft flew up to 8 combat sorties per day. This MiG-21bis 2306 became famous in 2015. during the visit of a few Russian and Arab reporters to Hama AB. Deleting their pretty popular facebook page looks like goodbye enough to me... in 1/48 I recommend their: Su-34, AH-1Z, UH-1(any version), Su17/22, SH-2 and Jaguar... They have some issues, but they are mostly OK. In the second row - there are F-101, Dauphin/Panther and Gripen.
