  2. My first luftwaffe build since I was a child.. Tamiya great 1/48 FW190. Out of the box. Mr Hobby paints, pastels and water for panel lines and weathering. and a comparison with a more recent generation of the same fighter bomber strategy. Things got bigger... Thanks for looking
  3. Thanks ... The Spad was fun to build.. Tamiya so the engineering so well thought through..
  4. All free hand with airbrush. Was trying some weathering techniques. Also used pastels for panel wash, oils for leaks etc..
  5. beautiful ... amazing finish and subtle weathering.. I like it lots
  6. Another 1/72 build.. Intakes almost a difficult as Revel 1/48 Tornado.. OOB build. Decals were great, they even include some RBF flags. Mr Hobby paints. And placed on top of my cabinet as running out of space now... the reason to go to the smaller 1/72 scale.. anyway thanks for looking... now onto the next build.. which will be a Tamiya 1/48 FW190A as its small and I have a space that will accommodate it...
  7. Thanks guys for the comments.. had some issue with the Tamiya flat coat which makes the paint look heavy and thick.. trying out some new techniques as well.. used pastels and water for washes.... the next one is going to be a f-15c so again a grey one... not a memeber of any clubs out here.. workshop is not a garage but my balcony and this hobby keeps me out of the bars..which is a good thing..lol
  8. Due to storage space I have tried my hand a 1/72 scale. here is Academy OOB of their F/A18A+. Nice kit that goes together well with very little troubles.. Painted with Mr Hobby colours but slightly the wrong shades. Thanks for looking
  9. I think the Tamiya A-1 is excellent OOB.. No need for any aftermarket stuff..and a lovely kit which falls together so well..
  10. There are a few shops here that sell models and supplies. Also I use Hannants and the delivery has been good so far. I will try and get back to the wessex sometime. Has been a difficult build and lots of parts broken during the move.. Next up is an A-7K Corsair II.
  11. After a battle with and stalling on the Fly 1/32 Wessex, moving condos which damaged the work on the Wessex I needed a nice subject to get the mojo back.. http:// So what better than a Tamiya 1/48 A-1H skyraider completely out of the box.. No PE.. No resin.. No paper.. no fancy stuff just back to basics.. http:// Paints from Mr Color (Mr Hobby) and Tamiya.. Grey was a mix as did not have the right colour http:// http:// http:// http:// http:// http:// But life is good.. A view from my balcony work bench area.. http:// Thanks for looking..
  12. So its taken all weekend but finally she is closed up. Mistake 1 was not correctly placing the gearbox in dead centre so off it came. Another round of mixing some 2 part epoxy. After dry fixing. Trimming, dry fixing trimming I realised that it was not going to fit with no gaps so took the plunge of just going for it. So panel by panel tack weld with Tamiya super thin. then when it all looks as best as it gonna get apply lots more glue and super glue to secure all the joins. There were some losses. Both control sticks broke in the process and the instrument panel came loose. These will be returned to their rightful place. Its big.. Tail rotor and PE also built.. Looks good. So after first round of filling and scraping and sanding then a coat of primer it looks OK So another quick round of smoothing and next step is to start putting on all the PE.
  13. Dont have any aftermarket for folding blades so will do it ready for action. I wish I had gone the foil route as the paper belts were a real pain..
  14. Dipped in Clear it comes out fine. In my picture it has some masks on.
  15. Superglue works well. Yep tried to clip them to the rail but it sounds easier than in practise..so I placed both halves together and actually they look ok through the door. So just a bit of tidy up and weathering needed..
  16. So this weekend was spent doing the seats. Now how hard could that be? Well let me tell you its mind numbing and a recipe for very sore eyes. Each individual paper seat plus individual belts have to be cut out.. Then for each seat two PE parts and for each belt one PE part. So the short bench looks like this Well it all went together reasonably well. Would I do it differently? Yes I would make sure all the seat PE are perfectly in alignment with each other before pulling down the paper to secure them. Anyway onwards as they say.. So decided to take a rest and mask the canopy, another thankless task made easier by using some good masks Now trying to fit the seats into the cabin. Thats were things turned difficult. Not quite sure how to do them to be honest and a mess was made.. Will try and repair some of the damage caused. Due to the difficult curves you cannot place heavy weights to secure the seat runners. And my clamps did not have a long enough reach. So glue place weight and wait then move on a little further and secure the next part was the method finally after numerous efforts. if it was not for Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP I would have given up for the day.. Next step will be to repair the damage and weather the seats a little. Then close the body up.
  17. Just a small update. Painting of the cockpit ongoing. Console has individual decals for each instrument. Drop of clear gloss placed onto each.. Sadly one or two slipped so alignment a bit off.. But from a distance looks ok. The detail on the resin parts is lovely however some small parts did not arrive intact. Long way from Hannants to Kuala Lumpur.. Paper belts touched up with marker pen.
  18. My father was on 72 during the hot summer of 76.. We left Odiham in 78 I think.
  19. Might not be the senior service one but is the better service one.. Thank will go have a look That's a shame I missed that.. I saw some reference to the build when doing a Google search but unable to see the write up.. I noted that the cabin roof was 5mm to long.. Might get to confirm this over the next few days. There are not enough of the PE plates even after counting numerous times and searching for an extra sheet. Grey green and black it will be then.. I think I may have to buy some more paints to cover this beast..
  20. Are there any WIP? Have not seen any yet. Will keep updating if I can but I am a slowwww builder...
