Finnish Air Force trainer Saab 91D Safir in 1/48
Mountain goat replied to Einar's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
A clean and crisp Safir. It looks beautiful and I like it a lot. Jay -
Beautiful work; very crisp and clean but at the same time visually interesting and realistic. I often wonder what happened to the decals on the real XT597 after IAT '83. They were applied on 22 July, and the aircraft departed, still wearing the celebratory outfit, on the 25th. Perhaps the decals were removed at Boscombe immediately upon arrival... Jay

1/72 Arma Hobby Hawker Hurricane IIb (Trop.)
Mountain goat replied to Acklington's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Superb looking and nicely detailed Hurricane. Excellent research there with a little supplemental educated guesswork; I like how you resolved the squadron code as well. Jay- 3 replies

TA-7C CORSAIR HAF Hobby Boss, in scale 1/48.
Mountain goat replied to doxasg's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
The level of realism and the crispness of the detail is really top level. Moreover the paintwork and finish as well as the realistic weathering make this model great. The pictures are worthy of closer study. I am amazed. Jay -
Gorgeous looking Hawk, I agree with above comments on the crispness of the paint job. Really stunning and great choice of subject as well. Jay

1980s NATO traffic north - south?
Mountain goat replied to Mountain goat's topic in Aircraft Cold War
I thought I should add a follow-up to this subject, as recently (actually last September - time flies), I had the opportunity to speak to a couple of people, one who was active in air traffic control, the other was air force admin but helped plan deployments, both in the 1980s. Both told me Austrian overflights by NATO aircraft were usually not an option, for much the same reason they couldn't overfly other neutral countries either, at least not within a NATO context. According to them, flights to Italy from bases north of the Alps were always planned to go via France. NATO aircraft did visit neutral countries on occasion though. Jay -
Hi, I'm guessing the answer to this obscure inquiry is No, but still worth asking I hope. So I've been forced to sand away blisters and aux intakes during aircraft builds every now and then, typically near seams. I usually make replacements from scratch, with the help of sanding sticks. Are there commercially available sprues out there containing only blisters of different sizes? I'm talking tiny sizes by the way, 3 mm length and the like. I'm wondering about this after discovering Kotobukiya's Detail Up sprues which contain only generic detailing parts for universal use. Jay

Isn't this one of Hannant's (literal) phantom listings, in that a company has announced it to vendors but cancelled at a later date? It's been on the website for a very long time AFAIK. The MPM Canberra is one those too I believe? Jay

English Electric Lightning F6
Mountain goat replied to binbrook87's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Beautiful Lightning - after seeing the images I had to read again to make sure it is indeed 1/72 - oh no wait I read it right, it's 1/144..? Great job! Jay -

My lord that is an explosion of colours! Really well done. I admire your focus in applying the digital scheme. I would get cross-eyed from that! 😄 Jay -
Operation "Chatte Flambee" An F4U-1A
Mountain goat replied to corsaircorp's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Amazing work, so is the collection - a small historical museum, absolutely great! The individual finishes of the models look smashing - you seem to have carefully researched the appropriate sheen (FAA: flat 1950s USN: glossy) for each. Very good! Jay -
Could you perhaps provide a link to that? Jay

Heller 1/72nd DC-6BF Surinam Airways
Mountain goat replied to Marc the Builder's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Gosh this is prop heaven! Those Douglas pistons look like they were made to last. You captured their 'faces', ie. nose sections, very well. Offset nose wheels: nice touch, gives them character and suggests movement. Jay -
Two Seat Jump Jet - Harrier T.4
Mountain goat replied to Andwil's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
My favourite Harrier version hands down. Very nice - your hard work paid off! Jay -
Cheers! I do have the vague intuition Fine Molds will rebox the short-nosed types with new decals in the not too distant future, but then again I could be confusing intuition for hope. Jay

Re. the F-4D - I know the box mentions 'Limited Edition', but here's hoping someone has a clue HLJ, Plaza Japan et al will stock the F-4C and F-4D again. Does anyone reckon they will? Do Fine Molds' Social Media accounts say anything about this? I missed an F-4D delivery thanks to customs. Jay
