  1. Here is the link to the Scharnhorst. http://village.photos/members/fergk/Scharnhorst--1940--Dragon-1-350-Scale/676740/20210724_142904 http://village.photos/members/fergk/Scharnhorst--1940--Dragon-1-350-Scale @Bertie Psmith I agree - I'd rather see the photos within the post. Is that even possible on this site?! @bootneck I got lucky - I picked this kit up for 80-85euro - it was reduced from about 140euro. Thanks
  2. Hi, I'd completed this last Christmas - it was a really nice build - I love the sleekness of this ship, very elegant. I'm not an expert at modelling, just added some metal gun barrels and a wooden deck from Wood Hunter (which I thought was awful. It was too sticky, stuck to everything, so I had to glue it down with the plastic backing on it). Hope you like it. http://village.photos/members/fergk/Prinz-Eugen--Trumpeter-1-350-/676723/20201229_234208 http://village.photos/members/fergk/Prinz-Eugen--Trumpeter-1-350-
  3. Thats a pain. I checked Flickr and it might be an issue with their site

  5. Hi, I'll be starting this model fairly soon, but I was hoping to get advice around the deck... I was thinking of airbrushing the deck, a Tamiya deck colour, but would it be worth buying a Hunter brand wooden deck to save all the hassle of masking, hand painting etc...? It is hard to find one that is available, but I have found one that I can buy from Poland....maybe I should as I already bought brass gun barrels... Aghh!! Thanks Ferg
  6. I've read elsewhere on the windows front, which I have done - which was to use some Tamiya masking tape on the outside of the fuselage to cover the window holes, then use some filler to fill in the holes from inside the fuselage - that way you get a nice flush finish when you remove the masking tape. Nice little tip :) I'm waiting on a replacement part from Revell (clear plastic piece that represents the light in the wing) but in the meantime, I've assembled the engines, 1 wing and the body of the plane. I am curious as to how I should finish the model, when its painted - as in apply a clear gloss coat. I've used Humbrol clear varnish before (from a can) on a ME109, which ruined the model with a 'foggy' effect and seemed to make the paint melt in places. I was not impressed. Anyway, would anyone recommend using Windsor & Newton Clear Varnish? Thanks for the replies.
  7. Hi, I'm just starting on a new build - the A380 1/144 scale by Revell. Has anyone any tips for masking the engine cowling(?) - the silver bit at the very front of the engine - to paint the inner side? I was disappointed to find out that the kit does not come with passenger windows or a stand (which was standard in the 747-800 kit). I've asked Revell for a replacement stand for the 747-800 which I shall use for the A380. I guess, the best thing to do for the windows is to mask the outside of them, and fill in the windows with filler from the inside? To paint the model, I am going to use Tamiya spray paint. I've already wasted money on what I thought was a similar colour as Revell's Light Grey Silk Matt, for the undercarriage - by testing TS-66 and TS-81. The TS-66 is way too dark and the TS-81 has a kind of a green hue to it, so I'm waiting on TS-32 (Haze Grey) to see if that is any better. If not, I reckon I'll use it anyway - just bite the bullet! Hope to add in photos soon. Any thoughts/tips would be appreciated.
  8. Well, Its been a long while since I worked on the Bismarck. Here are a few photos of the work I've been doing over the last 3 weeks. It took a while to hand paint the fake bow waves - I had to slice the masking tape very thin to get the curves just nice. The swastikas were also hand painted. Used a compass to get the circle and from there I used a ruler (mapped out on paper first to get the right size). The mat white paint I used was kinda watery, so it left very slight brush marks. I still have to paint on the camouflage onto the side of the hull. Once I've done that, I was thinking of screwing the hull onto the base board I have, then add the deck, so I can carry on with the side rails and masts. Hope you like the photos. Comments welcome. Ah, I stuck my photos on a drive and never saved them to photobucket hence no photos....bear with me! Photos should be on the photobucket link http://s1048.photobucket.com/user/Ferg_001/library/Mobile%20Uploads?sort=3&page=1 .
  9. I had painted the wheels and all that goes with them before it broke
  10. Hi, I started this off and its taking a while to make progress - maybe 2-3 hours on a Friday/Saturday and an hour or two during the week. Juggling a wife and two kids means I don't get much time I sprayed the deck in Tamiya deck tan, the hull in Tamiya Hull Red. They grey I used for the turrets, was a mix of light grey and grey. I got to the point where I was wondering if I mixed enough grey, so I decided to mix more and repaint them. Anyway, I had a few drips and that on the hull. The part where the propellers sit, I decided to fill those little gaps in, after I had sprayed the whole hull - so now, its not perfect and maybe I should of left it as it was - but once finished, you're hardly going to notice any issues. I removed the tape for waterline, so I might start finishing the hull soon enough. It may not be historically correct, colourwise but I think its not too bad to use the colours I've chosen so far. The build itself, everything so far fits lovely - maybe an ever so slight gap, in some small pieces, but I'm gonna buy some super glue with a fine point and sand - because of this, I don't feel its worth using filler - too much hassle for such a small gap I think. Anyway, it took me ages just to get three turrets to the stage they are at now (re-painting them included) - maybe 5 hours,.... Anyway...heres a few shots of my progress so far.. http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s376/Ferg_001/Revell%20Bismarck/DSC_0192_zps223bd748.jpg http://s1048.photobucket.com/user/Ferg_001/media/Revell%20Bismarck/DSC_0192_zps223bd748.jpg.html Thanks
  11. Hi, I spent ages trying to get this right. I was going to have the landing gears down, but I managed to break one of the struts, so I gave up. Anyway, I finished this with Halfords white enamel spray and then a coat or two of gloss finish (Winsor & Newton) and then applied the decals. The decals for the windows were the wrong size for 3-4 sets of windows, so I just filled those in with the same colour I used for the tail - Luftansa Blue. Anyway, I hope you like it and any comments more than welcome! Hope this links works too http://s1048.photobucket.com/user/Ferg_001/library/Revell%20Boeing%20747-8/Revell%20Boeing%20747-8%20Complete If you can't see the photos, anyway I can insert them into this feed?
  12. Hi, I have just started this Bismarck and so far (it has been a bit slow due to not having enough time) all I have done is joined the hull, filled in any gaps, used grey primer and then sprayed once with Tamiya Hull Red. I have also sprayed the main deck with Tamiya Wooden Deck Tan. Last night, I just got around to lightly sanding 2-3 very light run marks on the hull, before I re-spray. Anyway, I was double checking the paints in the instructions. I was going to mix to paints for the main grey the ship will be in (Light Grey Matt 76 and Grey Matt 57 (revell colours)), but thats too akward. This colour is marked as D. Can anyone recommend what the best grey paint would be please? Also, in the instructions for the paint scheme, on the main guns on the upper deck, it shows that the top half of the gun barrell is a different color from the bottom half. It appears white(ish)? on the display, but the colour for this is given as the same two colours as D above - so would anyone know what the colour of the upper half of the gun barrels would be? Thanks
  13. Well....after what I wanted to achieve in building a really nice model (after years of not doing one), I'm just at the finish line. I will post a link to photos as soon as I can, but after spending so much time on preparing the wheels and stuff, when it came to glueing them...one of the pieces broke - so I just gave up on it for a while out of frustration! Ended up having a closed undercarriage at the end. There are things I didn't do correctly - I ended up using the white gloss paint for the fuselage - but it was giving me brush strokes, no matter what I done - I could not get rid of them. I sanded down the fuselage slightly and bought an enamel spray from Halfords and sprayed that on the fuselage instead. I had to wrap tamiya tape around the engines before I sprayed and once that was done, I had miss 1-2 small spots of the grey under carriage, so I had to mix up some Grey gloss with some matt again and repaint the undercarriage. Once that was done I sprayed a light coat of Winsor & Newton gloss polich before applying the decals. There were decals that were for the windows, but after going to so much trouble building the plane - which was a very good neat building, the decals were the wrong size for the windows and did not fully cover them - so I have to paint the windows where the decals didn't cover. Once thats done - I'll give another coat of Winsor & Newton gloss finish and leave it at that. (and paint the stand the plane sits on!)
  14. I used a nail file (emery board) that I picked up in the pound shop. I used the Grey silk on the under side of one of the wings (correct colour as per Revell) but its nowhere near the silky grey thats on the plane - I was annoyed at that - but as per a comment above, I'll have to mix in some white or another light grey to get a close match. Thanks for the comments guys (I'll try sort out the pics from home)
  15. Hi, I made the engines and I filled in any little gaps etc. However when I sanded down the excess to smooth out, there are little scratch marks (I painted over them, but its not great result). Is there a good way to fill these in i.e clear nail polish or something similar (even tooth paste...)? Thanks! Ferg
  16. Hi, I'm currently nearing to a finish on a Boeing 747-8. The one thing about Aqua silk finishes is that it seems to be a very watery finish (the matts etc I found are terrific) and requires a few coats. The thing about this is that is doesn't seem to give a consistant finish - i.e brush strokes can/could be visible up close. Is there anything I can do with this so I don't end up ruining the fusalage (maybe thicken the paint just a tad...the bits I've painted using silk is within the engine cavities so far) - as I don't think it will give the finish it requires.. Thanks Ferg
  17. https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/120048585@N07/ Few photos, but I've done this via mobile so may not work...
  18. Hi, I've a 1/350 Bismarck that I'll be starting soon. I bought the colours Revell have for this, but I'm not really keen on mixing paints (especially the greys), so what would be the best/simplest greys to buy for the hull, structure etc. I like using Revell aqua, but I did buy Tamiya Hull red - which I've read is decent for the hull below the waterline. Thanks and very nice build btw. If I can get mine to be as good as yours I'll be happy! Ferg
  19. Cheers Jeff - I'll give that a go. I already bought the paints, so I've gone with Lufthansa Blue (as per Revells guide) - seems a very deep rich blue - needs a little bit of thinning all the same. Great link is: http://747-8.lufthansa.com/#/b747/experience
  20. Thanks for that - I'll try that. I've some tamiya tape that should do the trick. One of the things I was thinking of doing was using a small emery board (nail file thing) and trace the outline of that for a nice smooth round tip - use a pencil, mark the outline and mask - I'll try it anyway and give it a go! Ferg (want to get as much done right as I've a Bismarck 1/350 to do next)
  21. Hi, I've been working on this boeing for about 2 weeks now. I wanted to put more of an effort in it than when I done other models. I'm using Revell aqua paints which I think are amazing - much better than enemals. Anyway, I made a mistake with the engines - I primed and painted then realised that you'd see the seem, so I removed the paint/primer with some nail polish remover and a few cotton buds and re-primed. I primed the fuselage - looks great after being primed (kinda feel like not painting it all!) - but what I'm looking for is tips on painting the underside of the fuselage. There is a light grey colour that almost runs up to the nose and I was looking to find out whats the best way to mask/paint curved area's? I'll upload some photos if you like. I may have to re-do the wheels after reading a tip on painting wheels Cheers, Ferg
