I managed a second whole build in 2023, a 1/72 Tamiya Razorback for the P-47 Thunderbolt STGB. Build thread is here: That final pic also featuring my thumb in the upper left corner! Happy New Year everyone!

Well, disaster struck with build number two - something went wrong with the insignia masks and they wouldn't come up properly creating quite a mess. Fixing it would have required removing all the paint to that point and starting over, which I really didn't have the stomach for. -

Agreed, he looks very menacing! The cape update spared us from his fearsome stare - very impressive Giorgio! -

So glad you're doing well Steve, and the P-47 looks ace! -
I wouldn't complain about an extension either!

Academy vs Revell 1/72 belligerently battling bubble tops

That's a beauty of a scheme Adrian - and you're working at such a clip that my comments about the check scheme scheme and modified figure are woefully out of date: I really like how the faded OD sets off the checks, and your figure work is very impressive - you basically had to sculpt his entire flying jacket! -
Just saw the gallery pics for this one AW, fantastic build! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!

Flying start John!

Your figure painting skills definitely shine through on this cockpit. -

Wow, the olive drab looks great Adrian, I love the subtle faded effect you've achieved, and it sets off the checks very nicely. -
Very cool AW, these 56th FG schemes with the camo tops and silver undersides really do stand out.

That is a striking scheme - well done!

The wheel bay details look fantastic already Giorgio! -
Watch out Ced, there's a Typhoon diving in to attack your spray booth! That's the behaviour I'd expect from a Stuka. Oh, it's just in the paint shop you say? False alarm everyone, no need to panic.

Thank you Giorgio and Terry, it's so interesting how the light can change the appearance of the scheme. I was hoping for a little more variation, but was afraid to overdo it. I'm glad that I have a second on the go so I can give the Giemme MethodTM a try! Thanks Adrian, I'm pretty sure the checks were Barracuda Cals, so they probably behaved better than the Academy ones you wrestled with. For the next P-47, I planning on using the checks included in the Tamiya bubbletop boxing - fingers crossed! Thank you Dave! I've been practicing and experimenting with metal finishes for a while now and it's great fun - the checks were just luck and a bunch of Mr. Mark Softer/Setter! Metal technique comparison; Mirage III is buffed Model Master metalizer, and the P-47 from this thread is Vallejo Metal Color with AK True Metal buffed on top: The Tamiya bubbletop is coming together I attempted to have the tail and trim tab 'wag' because I saw it in a reference pic somewhere along the way- 44 replies

Hard to find a better metal finish than actual metal - looking great Giorgio! -
Glad to see you here John!

Nice work on the 78th FG checks Adrian - they are a pain! They required my first use of Mr Mark Softer/Setter which basically just melted them into place on my build (so some don't really line up anymore). -
That's some great paint work AW - looking forward to the result on this one
