  1. That's some fine clean-up work there Stuart - it will all pay off when it gets its racing scheme.
  2. I'm sure all of your research will be well worth it Justin, really looking forward to this one.
  3. Excellent multi-build AW, great to see the kits side-by-side - and I'm stealing that cork idea!
  4. 1/72 Arma Hobby P-51C - 332nd FG "My Buddy" Link to Build Thread I'm hoping to build a few more!
  5. Thanks for the encouraging comments everyone! @HarryHobbyin, I like riveting after paint (and sometimes after decals), and with the smaller '1/72' labeled riveters, it's still really difficult to see them anyway, so any mistakes are pretty well hidden! This one fought me a bit at the end - managed to get a glob of glue on the nose when attaching the exhausts and had to repaint and carefully add a decal patch for the nose checkers, and lost a main landing gear cover somewhere and had to steal one from another kit and quickly paint it up. Oh, and I forgot to add the wing guns before gluing them together, so had to scratch some up from plastic rod. Last bunch of bits and bobs: And I'm declaring it done: My eyes may have been bigger than my paint brush with this build, but I'm still planning on building the next two in parallel - just in case though, here's a pic of 'My Buddy' with another Arma Mustang, Jan Zumbach's wing leader: I'll try and get gallery pics up soon!
  6. This a great project Stuart, wonderful to see a racer!
  7. Agreed, the markings turned fantastic Patrice, this one really stands out!
  8. That's looking great Giorgio, and the wear on the main gear bay looks amazing
  9. Great work adding the second seat, that is a very cool build Tim!
  10. I had to mask up the whole thing to repaint the wing where I'd managed to smudge the aluminum paint: Success! And then mask it all up again for the yellow stripes that I forgot about: I just sort of lined up the flaps in the 'up' position as best I could in order to line up the stripes. It worked out OK. Then painted the trim tabs black: I've spent some time thinking about how to get the forward portion of the drooped flaps to be even shinier than the natural metal, as it appears in many photographs - and remembered @Fritag's Jet Provosts: So out came the foil for the fescalized portion of the flaps: Difficult to get a pic of the difference versus the metalizer and Vallejo, but I think there is a contrast: Oh, and got most of the transfers on - they're still a little wrinkled from the Mr Mark Softer And got together a pile of props and a tree of tires:
  11. I would never have guessed that was an old pot of MSG, it turned out very smooth, great work JR.
  12. That's a great dry-brushed fading effect Chris - now to try and wear out some Humbrol brushes...
  13. Great paint work John! I'll have to file away the advice on pink as an undercoat for yellow.
  14. Thanks Giorgio and Gerard! Got it all masked while watching a little TV: Began applying paint - got the two wing primers, the OD glare panel, and the Red Tail on: Vallejo Metal Color for the wings: I'm happy with the contrast between the VMC and MM Metalizer representing aluminum lacquer and bare metal: I managed to mess up the right wing with my cotton glove while removing the masking - d'oh - but it shouldn't be too difficult to sort.
  15. Quick work JR - that gun sight looks amazing
  16. Thanks folks! Managed to get a bit done this weekend; putty cleaned up, and windshield piece in place: Began the metalizing: Metal complete (mostly!) - the wings will be painted with Vallejo Metal Color to represent metal lacquer, and the tail will be red. I then got out the rivet wheels and went to town: I have the day off tomorrow, so I might have a go at painting the wings and tail.
  17. A Bedders Spitfire is always a treat! That turned out great Justin, does the West painting justice.
  18. Painted up the natural metal portions of the wings, and puttied the wing seams. And got the flying surfaces attached A little putty here and there, but not too bad so far. I believe I attached the IP coaming too far forward, and I'm having a little trouble with the windshield, but it shouldn't be too big a deal.
