  1. That's a great dry-brushed fading effect Chris - now to try and wear out some Humbrol brushes...
  2. Great paint work John! I'll have to file away the advice on pink as an undercoat for yellow.
  3. Thanks Giorgio and Gerard! Got it all masked while watching a little TV: Began applying paint - got the two wing primers, the OD glare panel, and the Red Tail on: Vallejo Metal Color for the wings: I'm happy with the contrast between the VMC and MM Metalizer representing aluminum lacquer and bare metal: I managed to mess up the right wing with my cotton glove while removing the masking - d'oh - but it shouldn't be too difficult to sort.
  4. Quick work JR - that gun sight looks amazing
  5. Thanks folks! Managed to get a bit done this weekend; putty cleaned up, and windshield piece in place: Began the metalizing: Metal complete (mostly!) - the wings will be painted with Vallejo Metal Color to represent metal lacquer, and the tail will be red. I then got out the rivet wheels and went to town: I have the day off tomorrow, so I might have a go at painting the wings and tail.
  6. A Bedders Spitfire is always a treat! That turned out great Justin, does the West painting justice.
  7. Painted up the natural metal portions of the wings, and puttied the wing seams. And got the flying surfaces attached A little putty here and there, but not too bad so far. I believe I attached the IP coaming too far forward, and I'm having a little trouble with the windshield, but it shouldn't be too big a deal.
  8. That's some fast work Steve, and of the highest quality - I'm impressed with both the Mig chrome and the brushed VMC on your earlier effort.
  9. Thank you Patrice, good idea, I'll make sure to leave a couple in reserve at less than 25% complete. You are a bad (very good) influence CC! I'll definitely consider an Air Commando scheme. It's almost as if Arma expected us to buy way too many of these and have to stack 'em! Well, one cockpit almost complete: I'm very vocal about not really being one for cockpit detail, but this kit leaves you no choice! True to form, I gave up on the cockpit detail transfers about half way through, but it's still probably the best detailed cockpit I've ever made. The engineering of this kit is remarkable; this is the second one I've buttoned up, and both times the way all the complex parts line up perfectly really impressed me. I gave up trying to carefully paint each stringer in the wheel bay, and just slathered on some yellow zinc chromate: Then scraped it off with a toothpick (the silver is Model Master Metalizer, so it can handle the toothpick without a scratch) Wing buttoned up:
  10. Excellent progress - I found the gunsight difficult to attach as well, and didn't even attempt that tiny PE part at the base of the IP - hat's off for sure!
  11. Excellent progress Patrice! I noticed that you used a bit from the sprue label in the nose of the fuselage assembly - care to share your trick with us?
  12. My build rate has been abysmal of late, but I've really been looking forward to this STGB, and have been un-packing my stash after a recent house move revealing my enthusiasm for the 1/72 Arma Mustang: Now, I knew I had ordered two of the F-6C sets based on the lovely box art alone, and the MkIII has already been built, but upon inspection, it had full sprues inside! Wow, three high back Mustangs when I thought there were two! What a day. Further rummaging revealed two more sets of sprues swaddled in bubble wrap - five?!? Well, what to do with such a bounty? I'm going to try and build them all. I'll almost certainly fail, but who could say no to such an adventure? Spent Sunday evening pre-painting some parts on the sprues: I think I'll try for "My Buddy" of the 332nd FG, and an attempt at the French subject on the box art of the F-6C, and then we'll go from there.
  13. Agreed, agreed and agreed (but in 1/72 of course). That looks amazing Giorgio.
  14. Same here Bill, well fingers anyway, I'm not a Martian.
  15. 1/72 Hasegawa fuselages with Academy wings in an attempt to make a more accurate Mustang III 1/72 Airfix P-51D An accurate Mustang III at last - 1/72 Arma Hobby
  16. You more than quadrupled my output John - wonderful builds, and so varied!
  17. Glad that sinus surgery is behind you now Bill, and fingers are crossed here for sure. I love the grey panel wash. In my time staring at aircraft pics, I've noticed that panel lines often stand out on a white surface from some distance - this is particularly noticeable with white stripes against a dark paint scheme (like Invasion Stripes) where panels will be very obvious, then disappear in the darker pianted section.
  18. I think that's called the 'eyebrow panel' and here is a quote from @Dana Bell on the matter from another forum: "The eyebrows were introduced with the raised cockpit Corsairs, the -1As. The left eyebrow was factory-installed beginning with F4U-1A BuNo 17930, F3A-1A 04739, and FG-1A 13572. The switches were, from the left, the gun camera, master arm, outboard gun switch, center gun switch, gunsight light, and gunsight light rheostat. I've seen a few cockpit shots where the gun camera switch was not present, but I've never found documentation explaining that anomaly." Link to above quote: https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?/topic/63911-some-f4u-factoids-i-found-while-trolling-drawingsnew-info/&do=findComment&comment=824223 The trim tab looks great Giorgio, and is a good example of all the little things that add up to such a convincing whole on your builds.
  19. That's an amazing finish Bill! Here's hoping the SNOT comes out alright.
  20. Brilliant scratch work on the nav lights Giorgio.
  21. Another great scheme John!
