Allright here we go. This is my No: 12 since my restart approx two yrs ago, havent build in 19-20yrs before that only with Humbrol enamel and a brush, didnt know what a wash were back then. The Kit... The kit is the Tamiya FW190a3 1/48 scale, it went togehter without fuzz, no filler needed at all, the only tiny gaps this model had were located at the upper wing root and on the joint between enginge cowl and the fuselage, the wing joint ive use hombrew surfacer made out of tamiya putty solved in acetone (benefit, it dries fast), take a small bruch an let the capilaryforce do the rest, and the gap at the enginecowl were solved with some thin sheet of plastic card, glued in to place and after that futted to right shape. Paint, Weathering and Techniques Used... Model were primed with Vallejo Neutral Grey. The paints ive used is Tamiya in the cockpit and detailed with Vallejo Model Colors, ive used the dryprushing techunice with Vallejo colors to make things pop out, the camo painting i went for Vallejo Model Air, the clearcoat was Tamiya Clear heavily diluted in Isopropanol, and many thin coats, The Airbrush i used is a H&S Infinity whith 0,2 (my first Aibrush for that matter lol ) decals were tricky one, theu were very stiff inded, bucket loads of softener needed to get them down in them panel lined, little help from a scalpel cutted along the panel line, after that they got settled down nicely. after that clear coat over the decals and then after that the Oilwash, ive used Windsoor Water Mixable Oils, the colors were lamp Black and Sienna Red solved in Beckers odurless thinner (yep don got to use water, they mix perfectly with beckers Paint Thinner), and ive pinnewashed all the corners, and lines and let the capilary force work for me. On top of that decanned Tamiya TS 80 Flat clear and airbrushed, love that flat finnish (ive tried many different flat clears). I Really do rekomend this kit, its cheap, nice fit, aceptable detailed thats enough to get a nice model out of it. All in All it took one week for all of this. allright enoug words and over to the pics instead. The result, at the end few pics from the progress. Enjoy. /Mal

FINISHED! Tamiya Lancaster 1/48 (#61105)
Mal_Belford replied to somnas's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
I bought mine from http://shop.maketar.com/store/aircraft-insignia-markings-148/ And they are great. I usually cut my own masks for insignias and numbers, all that i can mask i paint. exept to small numbers and so on. My FW190 was an exeption, one of the few ive used all decals on lol, but thats cause it was a quickbuild, nothing else and relaxed one to. Benefit of doing them self is the fact so much more cool indeviduals to choose . All these are home made masks. http://www.largescaleplanes.com/articles/?act=filter&field=author&data=Mal+Belford That cutting machine looks something for me for shure, since im alot in for it. I Also bought new steel sheet mask from Alliance models (reusable), ill shure will try them on my next build. /Mal -
Another Airfix 1/48 Gloster Javelin
Mal_Belford replied to billybookcase's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Looks real good start for shure. Also guitar strings are great to use as detailng and making tools out of them. The plain ones 015 i make scribing owls out of them, sharpen the end with whet paper, and also the thinner ones 009-010 i use to apply CA glue with, since they are very slippery and the glue gets on right spot easily. /Mal -

Mals Way of a Quick build FW 190a3 1/48. 1 Week.
Mal_Belford replied to Mal_Belford's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Thx Wow. Thats a real artists corner in the middle of great work The important thing ia to have a workplace thats fits its own needs. I do clean up after build sessions, clean brushes, put things in place, but when im middle of work thats some thing different. I like to start new build session when things are in order and clean. The only thing i can see is it to small place for the model bigger table or small shelf for the colors so that you get more room for your great creativity, that FW of yours looks real awesome -

The kit was a old Tamiya kit dated in the box -94, these kits are shure fun builds, snaps together without no fuzz, Didnt use any putty at all, not needed, only thing was the wing joints, there ive used homebrew surfacer (Tamiya Putty+acetone), and had a gap between the Engine cowling and the fuselage, that solved with some plastic card, and then polished. only had to use 2000 grit wetpaper and a 4 grade nail polish stick to go over the model fuselage and wings, so no seen seams were wisible at all. Paints ive used is Vallejos Model Air and Model Colors and some Tamiya, some scratch new machine guns from brass pipes, and the pitot tube is made from plastic rot with a tip from guitar string, since models on them details the casting were a bit off so neded to be replace, seatbelts is from Eduards. Oilwash i went for Windsor Mixable oils mixed with oilcolor Solvent and only pinwashed along the panel lines, corners, joints and so on, Techniques used was basic drybrushing and of course minor weathering using airbrush, different tones on the exhasus gases and some other areas. /Mal -

Mal_Belford replied to Mal_Belford's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Thx All for the kind words. Yep like it tidy, cleaning it up after a build session but when building it looks different haha, also a glass table is awesome, easy to clean and fast from paint alcohol on a cloth, and its like brand new. Doing this quick build as a relaxing build, since im deep in to my stang that ive ben working on since July last year, so needed something between. Few pics on that one. Cowling, spinner and some parts just dryfitted, not in place yet. /Mal -

Mal_Belford replied to Mal_Belford's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
That table is just cleaned after a build session . Always do that cause its nice to start new session when all is in order. Pointing out that i do not have that many shades, i mix many colors if i dont have it instead of filling the stash with one more shade, Mostly do Tamiya colors and Vallejo Model Air, them i got two or three bottles of them colors i use freq thats why it looks like many different colors of all shades on the shelfs. but its not. And Use them Vallejo model colors for dry brushing in various tones and detail painting. /Mal -

Allright and here we go. Planning get this one finnished tonite. /Mal
