  1. From my research I found a pic stating they went back to Vickers for modification including the tail before flying out. Found a pic of them lined up awaiting mod. Christmas Island on the ramp with modded tail
  2. Build this quickish one whilst mulling over some B17 adjustments. Seems the instructions of a NMF are incorrect and thanks to those who helped in my question post for confirming that, so decided to build it as the USAF museum in ohio example which was an agressor squadron aircraft till retired. So heres 'Red 39'
  3. From what I've seen you can go with dark or light markings. It seems they changed the markings whilst there. I have the same kit in the stash and saved pics of them all in dark with white fin cap and light with white or black fin cap. Looking at the vid I linked Im inclined to go with dark markings. I've not found if they changed markings either before first drop or just after so far.
  4. Have a look at these IWM vids. Theres a nice front 1/4 shot of 818 at 2min (and 4mins, crew getting on at 7min shows names) of this vid and some other shots of flying etc in other vids. https://film.iwmcollections.org.uk/record/1181/media_id/12616
  5. Such a shame and terrible to see. Thank you all.
  6. Just finished this Airfix 1:72 Boeing B-17G 37-993 of 91st Bomb Group, 324 Bomb Squadron Eighth Air Force based at RAF Bassingbourn in Early 45. I started building this as the B17 Texas Raiders had just crashed it may not be Texas Raider but its my little tribute to them. With this one having quite a high bomb tally I've gone for a slightly more worn look then my usual builds. Build itself was really nice. The only issue being around the ball turret where something was out and didnt allow the fuelages halves to meet cleanly or the turret to rotate. No real addons to this just some scratch build ammo chutes for the waist 50cals and some hydraulic tank/pipes in the cockpit to fill a hole. Theres some nice pics of 43-37993 in flight and crew HERE at the American Air Museum in Britain site. Now to my build, as always comments suggestions, questions and tips always welcome and encouraged. (image use small print so nobody complains:- You can download good quality copies of the images on our site for your own personal use, or use in a non-commercial context. 7. I've checked my bucc book and found a pic of XN974 on USS Lexington for hot weather trials with drop tanks fitted and a pic of her sister aircraft XN976 in the same scheme showing tanks and pylons from a different angle.. will PM the pics.
  8. Depends on what time period youre looking at. I've seen pics of the F8TT in grey, black, yellow, fluorescent from the 60s in b&w (can just make out the fluorescent) and the 70s
  9. From the RAF pub on markings and schemes (1971) AP-119A-0601-1A it states for target golden yellow BS381C/627. Ive attached the page. TT scheme T7 Scheme F8 Scheme (Nice pic on airliners showing WK941 with the F8 flouresent upper and black yellow lower)
  10. Ive build the revel Mig-21SMT... its an eduard kit ( still eduard markings on the sprue) its very very good. had no issues with it.
  11. They do look good. im only in 72 scale Sorry forgot to mention 1:72 scale. Had a look at eduard its all 48 scale or bigger.
  12. Been trying to sort this out for about a month now to no avail. B17G on the bench and the waist guns look a bit lonely unconnected to the ammo boxes so trying to make up some ammo feed chutes but cant come up with a way to make them from scratch. Anybody have any experiance or suggestions? So far the forum search hasn't come up with much other then 3d printed ones, also tried crochet (mums idear 😅) My best idea of late is multiple strips of paper glued together painted silver and draw in the link lines. Example chute Edit: 1:72 scale. sorry missed that bit
  13. Ive been using depending on the look im going for Revell 90 for tin and Plastikote metallic silver and brilliant metallic silver depending on if i want polished or semi polished etc. (available from hobbycraft)
  14. The airfix kit I have states Flogger B or E varients which are from what I've been reading are identical except the E being an export version with less advanced avionics.
  15. Yes i spotted that in some pictures.
  16. I have made the revell K2 and the only area that was a bit of a pain from memory was where the vertical stab joined the horz stab and needed quite a bit of filler. I have another Revell K2 in the stash I thought of converting to a B2 but will likely make it as a black buck refueller. (It cant be that bad if I got another to build)
  17. Thanks all for confirming what I had found and suspected to be the case. With that confirmation I'm thinking of all grey scheme or since the decals work for it making it as the Flogger E of the US Air force museum in Dayton. (two tone grey camo)
  18. Just starting the old Airfix Mig-23 Flogger and I'm struggling to find any ref photos of a Mig-23 in NMF. Instructions give soviet NMF red 63 or blue 07 yet all pictures I can find show either all over grey or multi colour camo. Would anybody know if they did operate in NMF or if this is airfix working from B&W pics in the 80s? or any other guidance on correct colours. Scalemates kit instructions
  19. I have theses from when I did my 1:48 Bucc. The airfix offering of the 12 Squ badge.
  20. Great build. Reminds me of the old 70s Show Warship.
