  1. Thanks. Painted with humbrol upper and revell lower. Then a coat or 2 humbrol gloss clear then humbrol Matt varnish when finished. And humbrol decal fix. Same as I’ve always done. That’s what makes me think I didn’t leave time for any moisture trapped under the decal to escape with it being cold and damp. Thanks.
  2. Thank you all. It’s a very good kit it’s also a very good size. I’m considering another of the Eduard mig-21 variants. The camo took more brain power then the build!
  3. Just off bench the revell mig-21smt or should I say the eduard mig-21smt in a revell box as all the frames are stamped eduard. Firstly the good, it was a dream to build everything except one section fitting together perfectly, very little filler, beautiful detail and options. The not so good, had issues with the cockpit seat being too high so the canopy didn’t sit down resulting in having to sand the base of the seat down flat and then some, and some of the decals silvered although that might be me not allowing time to dry fully in the damp and cold of winter. And a word of warning if a brush painter like me, the panel lines are a little shallow in places so the paint filled them up a little too much in places under some paints. If this was my first eduard and if this is what they are all like I’m very tempted to get another mig-21 for a classic grey or bare metal finish. As always comments and advice for future builds gratefully received.
  4. Thanks for the tips. You’ve made a fantastic looking hurricane. I’ve the 1/24 spit, 109, and hurricane (in a 109 box) in the stash.
  5. Lovely looking build and finish. And certainly unusual to see one wing up and one down.
  6. Fantastic looking build. I have the airfix 1:72 in the stash. Hope it looks as good as yours.
  7. Very nice Alex. Used to like going out to the transat A310s and their high flight hours. I’ll have to see if I can get a 310 kit and make “miss piggy” as we called them.
  8. Thanks Neil are you after anything? Maybe a swap if you are.
  9. As this thread started about lightning intakes here’s a reverse view from no1 engine position on a T5
  10. Thanks Dave. I’ll check both Nissan silver and AK paint out. Is the AK rattle can or brushable? I mostly brush paint with a bit of rattle can for white and varnish. Thank you.
  11. Thanks for that info. I found around no2 engine it looked good but as you said the larger areas it’s just not right. I’ll have a look at AK at the moment I’m looking at either a can or revell 90 or something cheap from Halfords or hobbycraft. Thanks. I’m think I have a spare just can’t find it at the moment. Thanks. It is a good size kit. Be nice if airfix re-released them and civil stuff Thanks Thanks
  12. Another refurbishment of a really early in my building years the airfix dc-10 that had yellowed. Thought I’d use it as an opportunity to try out the humbrol metalcoat paint. Unfortunately not overly impressed with it 1 small can only just covered the fuselage which needed 2 coats and even then was patchy and polished through. If anybody has a suggestion for a better or cheaper polished aluminium look paint (C54 and B29 in the stash) please let me know. Pre refurb. Post. (excuse the missing cockpit glass and door surrounds. The glass shattered and yellowed and no spare door surrounds yet)
  13. Stunning build. Do like the anniversary schemes.
  14. That is certainly an aircraft I’ve never seen before with a lot of glass and a surprising tall looking tail. Is she painted in black or a very dark blue?
  15. Thanks all. Think the Vallejo maybe an alternative for me. Especially as I mostly rattle can or brush.
  16. Fellow modellers. Looking for recommendations for a bare aluminium look paint for a C54 build I’ll be starting at some point. I’ve tried a can on humbrol metalcoat polished aluminium spray but it doesn’t go very far 1 can covered just the fuselage of a dc-10 meaning I’d need 3+ cans for the C54. So any recommendations please. Thanks.
  17. Thanks Steve. I agree. The dark blue just hides the details and the lines. Thanks John. I might put in a small support post/bar to off load the nose gear if you’ve had issues thanks for the warning.
  18. Thanks kapam. I wasn’t aware until I looked it up on scalemates. Thanks.
  19. Thank you. I hope mine gave you a big smile then. Thank you. Thank you.
  20. Fresh off the bench Revell 1:72 “new” (2018) Catalina PBY-5A of patrol squadron 61 US Navy Umnak Island Alaska 1943. The kit although called new on the box is a 1993 academy mini craft kit. It looks pretty decent though with good external detail, the cockpit is terrible fortunately the cockpit windows are so small you can’t really see anything inside so not a big deal. If anybody has this in the stash two points of warning. 1- I took up every bit of space in the nose with lead for the required counterweight in odd small sizes due to hill shape and then had to disguise it from view through the nose turret. 2- The wing lift struts could do with being 1-2mm longer. I had to weight and stress rig the wing to get it to meet and glue even then one side popped and needed an insert piece. Hopefully this helps anybody with the build coming up. Now the pics.
  21. Really nice looking build. I’ve been pondering this kit for a while. Seeing your build it’s just moved from the maybe list to the wish list.
