  1. Hi All

Here's some Mirage 3C Decals ive just drawn up for a Britmodeller in 1:32 scale

These are most of the markings that were asked for apart from the stencils and other markings.

The Revell roundels were out of register so new ones were made.

Complete with "white" inkjet roundels to help the coloured ones stand out on a Silver finish

Well, have a look at the photos.

  2. Hi Rodders

Technogly has certainly gone in leaps and bounds.

I make custom decals,im pushing has hard has i can with cutting edge technogly that is out there.

Ive developed/invented a A4 Inkjet that prints "White" ink,now im working on a Gold and Silver that can print panels of steel coloured decals.

    The sky's the limit.

If you need help, give us a shout.

  3. Hi All

Here's some new replacement decals for the Airfix Cherokee Arrow 2 in 1:72 scale.

These where done for a modeller who tried to use the old Airfix ones.

They broke up while trying to apply them.

    Have a look.

The top one is the old Airfix decal

The bottom one is the new decals on paper version and the newer style of lettering

Notice the colour difference due to the age of the decal and the carrier film yellowing.

  4. Just like modern day printers though, the machine will cost very little but the media will be VERY expensive!!

    Hi

I know to my cost with developing my "white" inkjet printer, the printer cost me £30 the "white" ink a lot more.

The JPNL inks i use are getting expensive to do colour, the "white" is 6 times the cost of a colour refill.

  5. All round there is a long way to go, yes it does work and I have had parts made i.e Landrover and Supcat wheels, but believe me there is a long way to go when everybody will have a 3D printer on their desk at home that can print out accurate and large parts to make a model, neatly scribed etc etc.

I know that technology is moving on at a rapid rate and like the hobby world over is changing very fast (our entire lifestyle is) I really do not think that the viability is that close around the corner to fully replace kits as we know them today.

The good thing is that it is helping improve the models that we are already enjoying BUT and a very big BUT, information in is information out, and without knocking any manufacturers there are an awful lot of models that are CAD, 3D designed printed, modelled what ever you want to call it that are SO wrong you may as well carve the parts out of balsa and fill with talc powder like the good old modellers did back in the 60's - 80's.

I am certainly all for progress and for the 3D printing and the likes but to make a couple part kit fit together and work is a little more than just printing it out on a little printer that is being spoken about.

My word of warning to anybody that is considering splashing a few hundred or maybe up to £2000.00 on a 3D printer be sure to check and recheck all the capabilities of that machine, the resolution of the printing and the object size that can be printed. If you can get away witha a basic shape and fairly small items then it may work but in almost every case (unless I am proven wrong) the resolution that you hope for wil be along way from the actual printed project i.e. very rough and not enough or no surface detail possible. Size may not be a major issue but will certainly be a limiting factor.

    my thoughts Ali

    Hi Ali

Once perfected, this would be right up your street with conversions, cockpits, add on bits and correction sets.

    The sky's the limit.

    I know it's the cost,time etc.

  6. Maplin have a £d printer for £700. The journal of the IET have just done an article on 3D printing and and software etc. I think we are still a few years away from seeing it used in anger for our hobby, but I'm positive it will have a future.

I think it will have a dramatic effect on our hobby has more people put 3D Drawings for models on the net.

At the moment some are free to download.

The thing that worries me that Gun Modellers are making repilca firearms and they work with "Live" ammo have a look on you tube there is a guy with a ATR-15 Semi Automatic that fires 600 rounds before it breaks the plastic working parts.

It has a double sword good and bad,its the bad guys that will limit it capabilitys for us modellers

I would buy one,i would use it to produce parts for cockpits, ejection seats, interiors of helicopters well the sky's the limit.

  7. Hi All

You may have read in the newspapers and on the net about a new low cost 3D Printer that Curry's/PC World are selling.

They have gone on sale for less than £1,200 its called the Cube.

This is going to revolutionise the model market to such a degree that we will be able to make anything that we need.

This 3D Printer links to a normal PC by wireless, you will need to know a lot about 3D graphics to draw up what you need to be made

There are several 3D Graphic software out there,i would use Autocad 2007 it has the software attached to draw up what you need.

What would you use yours for if you had one ?

  8. Hi

I haven't drawn them up yet as i have not had anybody ask for them, also i dont know what they look like ?

I did these 1:144 scale ones as i had several people ask me for replacements as there old ones as you can see are yellowed and cracked and will break up as they go into water.

  9. Hi

The crow had to be completely redrawn, the airfix one is in the wrong colours and out of register.

It took a few hours to get it right, working of a photo copy of the orginial photo.

It looks massive on the screen, then i had to reduce it down to size to fit where it goes on the tail.

The crosses are quite simple to draw and print.

Getting the lettering and the inlay red for the white and red,and then seperating them for the "White" inkjet printing.

Its a pity there is not much 1:24th scale decals out there for the Me 109 and Hurricane.

  10. Hi All

Here's some 1:24th Me109E Decals ive just done for a modeller who wanted something different from the decals in the Airfix Kit.

The pictures show the decals some are printed on to clear and some a "white" inkjet on clear.

The whiping bird has a white background inkjet decal just to show up the white area's on the decal.

Then the coloured ones on top.

The same with the swasitka's for the tale

The black "6" has a white inkjet edge all around the black "6".

The "achtung anfanger" has white with red inlay " attention beginners"

The white crosses made from white decal sheet with the crosses marked out to cut out and applied first with the black crosses on top.

    printed on to clear decal.

The modeller commented "there's not much 1:24th scale out there"

  11. Hi John

The white ink was deveolped for a "Bog Standard" Inkjet printer,Its a Epson SX-115.

The ink/coating was produced to go through the pizelectric head without blocking and was developed by some chemist friends of mine.

It is not been allowed for sale to the general public.

It has 4 white cartridges in and can only print white on to clear decal film.
