  1. Finally, the wife is out of hospital and recovering, my sister is recovering from hip surgery and I'm just getting over a nasty cold and chest infection, so I've had a chance to wrap this baby up. I have attempted, for the first time, to create my own camo netting and tarpaulin sheets using art putty. Pleasantly pleased with my first attempt at these, though I think I still need a lot more practice yet. Everything is now complete and the end pictures will soon be posted in the RFI section. Thanks to everyone for being patient while I have built this and I hope to see you in my next project. I was going to have a break but, alas, it's my birthday soon and what else would I want other than another kit to build? Well, I have the Revell Pirate ship 1:72 on its way along with the Takom 1/35 German Heavy Tank SdKfz 182 King Tiger w/ Zimmerit & Interior. With the pirate ship I may look at adding some kind of lighting and with the Tiger I may be looking at creating some kind of cut-away. Figures painted and the tarp created. The Camo net made with medical gauze. The camo colours are not quite visible from this photo. Finished and RFI..............
  2. Loving the look of this project. Such a monster and the detailing is coming along amazingly. Only wish I had the space for such a creation. Nice work!
  3. Great build Jusjay. As I have said before, I am new to weathering too and am trying to find that balance of weathering it enough to look realistic. I tend to either overdo it or don't do enough. The good thing is that there are people on here who offer great advice and encouragement, no matter how experienced you are. I find their advice of great value. The main thing is that you have had a go Good work
  4. Looking really good so far. Weathering is coming along nicely too.
  5. I'm really liking the look of this kit and may put it on my wish list. Good work so far
  6. Sorry folks. The wife is in hospital now, so all further work has been supsended for now. Hopefully at some point I can get back to it soon. Thanks for the kind comments that you still post. Really appreciate it. Best wishes
  7. Onwards........................Managed to get the camo done now. Sorry about picture quality. Thought it was my eyes but it was the lighting and/or camera. Time now to paint some of the detailing, etc.
  8. Many thanks. Really appreciate that. I've been travelling a lot of miles to the hospital and back but my sister is home now (phew!) and now my wife is starting to sleep through the night again, so things are certainly improving. Brain is still a bit mushy but that's not unusual............
  9. Very nicely done. The PE really makes a difference.
  10. The problem with superglue is that as soon as the part touches anything, it will not budge. At least plastic glue gives you time to work with it. I seem to think that there is a metal glue on the market that can be used, which takes a little longer to set. My school reports always stated that I was a slow learner and even after 40 odd years of kit building I am still learning............slowly, lol. Only recently I have moved on to using an airbrush and have also just started experimenting with weathering too. Luckily there are so many video's out there to help.
  11. Good luck with the build. Looking forward to following it. I started making small changes that were easy to do when I began building. It takes away the stigma of just being built out of the box and makes it unique to you. Then as you progress you can try adding photo etch parts (allowing you to super glue your fingers together or even glue you fingers to your ear like I do - I even superglued a PE part to my tongue once.) The main thing is to enjoy the build.
  12. Sorry Guys for no postings recently. My sister has been in hospital and had complications and my wife has been sick too, so I've had no time to advance. Now My sister is back at her place and the wife is improving I may be able to carry on (once my tired and foggy brain decides to work again).
  13. Sure is, Phil. I work to a tight budget but, if you can afford it, there is so much stuff out there to improve the kits. I don't know about you, but it's the build and challenges that go with it that I enjoy most. Once the kit is done it just sits in a display case for ever more. Maybe I should go back to building Lego. At least you can take that apart again and rebuild it............
  14. Amazing detail. I'm truly in awe.............
  15. Thanks Phil. It is definately worth the extra's but the cost soon mounts up after a while. It is becoming a habit that I spend more on extras now. Alas, my knowledge of tanks is very limited so at the moment I am almost going with the kit as it is. I'm glad that you get two figures with this kit though. I am looking at the netting ,etc, so watch this space........
  16. Thanks Francis. I must admit some of the photo etching is nicely scaled.
  17. I concentrated more on the turret again today. The netting and storage pods are not fitted as well as some of the other minor details. I didn't manage to super glue my fingers together today, though my finger got stuck in my ear for a while until I could pull it loose (minus some skin). Oh well, no pain, no gain............. Still some tidying up to do as you can see but it's taking shape. Side skirts fitted. Sorry guys, I just couldn't replace all of those handles.
  18. Thakns guys. Appreciate the encouragement. I must say that I'm picking up lots of tips from the build and other members, to carry forward should I do another tank kit. I'm certainly learning a lot more.
  19. Thanks, Dan. I've had a look at your build and was amazed at some of the detailing that you did. Alas, this one will probably be done almost out of the box as my knowledge on tanks is very limited. I did pick up some very useful tips from your build though. Appreciate it.
  20. Welcome to my latest build. As I have been in the mood for building military kits lately, after building the Leopard tank and transporter, I thought it only fair to build something British. I settled for the Challenger as I have always liked watching it in action (on TV) and it seemd to be ahead of its time and stylish and will stand alongside the Leopard nicely. As before I am also using some photoetch but my patience with all of the tiny fiddly bits are testing me (I'm also fed up with super gluing my fingers together and to my head and tea cup). The actual kit is quite detailed really, so PE may not have really been needed. The main parts I wanted were for the rear engine vent grill but I have found some of the extra PE detailing useful in some areas (lights, barrel, etc) so it may have been worth it after all. I hope you enjoy following this build and appreciate all comments, tips, etc. Here goes: The Box Suspension and wheels assembled. Looks like an upside down woodlice......... First coat of the camo to the base, as well as the rear fuel barrels, etc. PE grilles fitted and the front lights sections. Front light PE parts fitted.
  21. Thanks, Mike. due to lack of space it is hard to create a proper scene but I managed to get this on to a small piece of wood. I actually bought some 5 feet wide backgrounds that are usually used on model railway layouts. Expect to see this background figure in most of my builds from now on............. I'm sure it will be ok, Rich. It's a good build to do and looking forward to seeing it develop on here.
