Tamiya 24300 Nissan GTR R35 2008
tommchowat replied to tommchowat's topic in Ready For Inspection - Vehicles
Thanks - Tamiya said the colours for this are silver, black or red... I was sort of expecting it to be more of a gun metal colour as that's what I see most of on the roads, but hey ho! -
Hey Guys, Long time no post! Looking back at my last post, it was the Tamiya Aston DBS! Anyway, back into it now after a house move and my own man cave, chose the Tamiya Nissan GTR. Managed to get a hold of the photo etched detail up parts aswell which are rare as hell! Stuck pretty much exactly to the paint instructions, including the black edition of the model which has some red trim on the interior. Only thing I changed was the alloys which I did gloss black. I left the front number plate off too as I reckon it looks better without. Ford GT next.

Yeah it's just standard Tamiya spray, went on a treat! -

Great work mate. I got the kit a while ago from eBay (ridiculous price like you said). Didn't do any adjusting of it but got the Union Flag decals. -

Thanks guys. Displaying them in cases also makes them girlfriend proof. She once decided to dust one of my aeroplanes and broke a winglet off, then we didn't speak for the rest of the day. Nissan GTR next, then the Carrera GT! -

Thanks mate. The Nissan GTR is next I think, not a big fan of how the LFA looks! -
Nice one, that's the kit I've got my eye on next! Thinking a gun metal silver would look nice. How did you find the kit?

Hi guys, Long time no post for me as we just bought a house and have spent the last few months renovating, so no room or time for building anything! But I just finished the Tamiya Aston Martin DBS. I'm by no means a professional at this and there are many better than I am, but this is my fourth car and I like to think I'm getting better at it! What struck me initially was the difference in quality with the Tamiya kit compared to my other three cars (Revell). Detailing and parts are superb - this is reflected in the price of the kit (this was around 50 quid I think compared to the average Revell which is around 18). But totally worth it. This is sort of a latter stage work in progress and finished article. Work has begun. Putting the dining room table out of action. Girlfriend not happy. The underside. Once again a credit to the Tamiya kit with the amount of detail they bother with here. Interior done. Went with the stock colours as I like the nice matt finish, also went for the DSG gearbox. Couple of coats of white primer. And on with the metallic silver. Instructions suggest black, but I just couldn't picture it! A great tip I picked up from here ages ago, do the windscreen edges with a sharpie instead of paint and a brush. So much neater and the same effect. Also any clear red tail lights can be done with a sharpie too. I was almost suicidal when a big blob of glue fell from my (broken) glue gun straight onto the rear windshield. Some desperate googling brought me to a technique of sanding the windshield with 600 grit paper, rubbing it with toothpaste ('really?!' I thought to myself!) then coating it with floor polish. Came out great thankfully! Test fitting the body. Goes on alot easier than the Revell kits. Nice view of the V12 lump as we near the end. Just mirrors, bonnet and decals to go on. bottom view. And here she is! Normally when I have a model whose doors and bonnet open to show all the goodness inside I just bypass it because these are NOT for playing with, so I usually glue doors and bonnets shut (did that recently with the Mercedes SLS) but I thought that the detail is too good not to go on show so I left the bonnet unglued for any viewing pleasure needed later! And up on the wall she goes with her friends. Enjoyed this one, comments and criticisms always welcomed of course! Cheers Tom

Thanks mate. Cases came from modelhobbies.co.uk. About 17 quid each I think. Took me a while to realise which picture you were asking about! It's the front end of a Boeing 737-800 -
Hi Guys, Been taking a break from painting aeroplanes and have been doing a couple of cars. Finished the 458 from Revell today and really enjoyed doing it, quite pleased with the result. Picked up quite a few tips from lurking around here, the main one being using Sharpie marker pens to colour the window edges black instead of struggling with paint and a brush. Can't believe I never thought of that! Here she is on my window sill in the girlfriend-proof display case next to the Audi.

Great thanks. I'll be happier when it's in a display case. But trying to find one for a 1:144 747 which isn't extortionate is difficult.

Just to confirm, I had a Google for Klear and it came up with 'Pledge Klear multi surface wax'. Is that the stuff?

Great, thanks alot for the tips chaps.
