Just popped a few beaufighter and Beaufort ref pics from the wings museum in the ref section if your interested

A few pictures from a visit to Wings museum near Crawley, it’s a surprising little place full of very interesting aircraft and aircraft parts. A Russian havoc, and p-63, a Dak used for the filming of band of brother, the parts from a p-38 f4 I think? The photo recon version, which have surprisingly blue original paint on… and the below. Both are Australia examples but thought they might be of interest.
aussie Beaufort nose, unsure of the mark but looks like the nose similar to an RAF MKII?
the old original paint?
aussie beaufighter nose section
And collector ring
evidently the beau has been restored so not the original look I imagine.

There’s so much going into this, I don’t know how you do it. It’s looking great though, keep it up!

Looks lovely. The scheme will make a nice change from TSS or green/brown. And thank you for hosting!
Regards,
Adrian
Thanks Adrian, however as a host I don’t feel I’ve done a great deal. This GB has fallen in a pretty hectic time for me! But it’s doing well with so many great subjects, your own very much included in that.

Thanks Rob,.... every time I look at the orange it looks different depending on the light!
Fluorescent paint is hard to capture in a pic and in a model, you weathering will tone it a bit, but you needn’t worry it looks ace.

That orange pops brilliantly. Really nice work on this Tony, and great seeing something different in the group build.

This is very cunning stuff Adrian, very cunning indeed!! Really enjoying seeing the process of how this comes together.

Just thought I’d look in as a couple of Blenheims and a Beaufighter have magically appeared in the stash, there are some beauties in the gallery. I wonder if I could turn a twin around in a month 🤔
Only one way to find out!

The interior is up to your now usual high standards!
Woah there partner, let’s not start throwing things like ‘usual high standards’ around… save that kind talk for the man above 😃. He can handle the pressure!
thanks cookie glad you like it and appreciate the comment! Very kind.

Hope you get sorted soon, Rob 🤞
In the meantime, nice ribbing there!
Ciao
Yeah I’m all sorted, it wasn’t nice but no worse than a flu for me. Jo had to have an ambulance sent out as NHS were worried about her breathing but she was fine. All better now!

I've been lucky and dodged covid so far (touch wood), second jab next week but if I'm going to get it will be when snotty nosed students start to return in the autumn and we'll (hopefully) be able to start teaching them in person again...
those darn students! Jo works at a UNI as support staff, don’t think they are planning to fully return to face to face yet. Hopefully you will as it’s just a better way to teach. Stay safe though.
so the B17, still not broken into the B24 as not sure what I’m building yet, but the B17 is moving on!
first up nose section, both sides of ribbing don’t and paint going down. I feel I have achieved what I wanted but would use a much thinner plastic strip in future.
the floor is much more level and will need a small amount of plastic strip at the nose to fill the little gap.
Ribbing is also being added to the waist gunners section.
and there is resin and PE to add to here too.
the radio room was finished and dry fitted and is a good fit.
doubt much will be seen in there in the end. The little seat was scratch built as all the bits pinged off.|
thats about it for now, I have a week off with the kids and then will be back at it after that.

And we continue.
I have put the power plants together and they are now glued in place. I think one of the engines is built wrong, and the seem on the cowl popped when I attached it, so will have to try and sort that again.
engines were painted with mr metal iron.
a little buffed (left) and unbuffed (right) for you.
collector rings were given a vote of iron as well then polished later.
polished and attached. The left engine has been re aligned and attached since this shot as it was wrong.
Oh and the trip filter and under carriage were put on as well…
only pic I have of the UC. Well I’ve only done the first half.
then the masked canopy was given a coat of IG then started with the middle stone.
thats about 3 coats.
that’s all really. What I will say is I think a Better job could have been done with the engines. There is a seem on the collector ring, I think a separate part that would slot on the front would have made this a better kit and simplified the process. But that’s a small niggle on a lovely kit.

Depends on if you have primed and how long you have left it. I find it a smooth paint but without a primer it can peel as it doesn’t bit hard.
liking the choice of aircraft and scheme, that blue looks great.

These build are fantastic, I love the b-25 and the new airfix kit. Really odd seeing your short shots, this must be a later run thing? I picked up one of the first boxing and have another early boxing and both had no issues. Sounds like the process is slipping back which is a massive shame.
I live the paintwork and techniques you have used, especially the D-Day stripes! The upper ones that are scrubbed off look fantastic.
cheers

Cheers Rob,.... oh it won`t continue at such a speed,.... I`m laid up with my back again now!
Well that’s not good news Tony, I hope it isn’t too long before you’re in a better place! Fingers crossed, and hope that you are ok.
take it as easy as you canRob

Looking great Dennis, that’s a smooth blue you have there. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do to fade and weather it etc, always nice to see other perspectives on the process.

Great plan Tony and not something we have seen here. Looking forward to seeing the research and scheme you choose.
not hanging around on this either are you, most of it’s built!

that's annoying. it’s frustrating when you make something permanent but hasn’t gone how it should, then you see how other have done it to avoid it but it’s too late. I have had that happen so many times. That all said looks like you have it all under control! Sign of a quality modeller!
great work.

You really have your work cut out here, I still don’t know how you do it.
