  1. Welcome to my first lockdown build, which I started aroud two weeks ago (when the Czech quarantine started). The Revell kit, which I bougth second hand, is a reboxed Matchbox and is really advanced like the many other Matchbox kits from it's time. I started to like this machine because of its curves and design. Although it's a German construction, which is very rare in my stash, I started this build with great enthusiasm and a vision of a fast build kit with only minor improvements and scratchbuilding. The cockpit came first and I decided to put the pilots into their office for the first time in my 14-year modelling career - and I am happy about that! Then all the progress went in a really fast pace, including riveting, detailing the exterior (reinforcement stripes, a new window, engine air intakes, exhausts and much more...). Few changes from the military to the civil aircraft had to be done such as extra window next to the cockpit, filling the turrets holes, different engines and the airscrews too. To be honest, the pace was fast enough to skip the photo sessions and also starting a new thread here. But now there is the painting starting piont - Surfacer primer aibrushed and waiting for colours... ... And the chosen one is this marking: Luft Hansa's Dornier Do-18E D-ABYM "AEOLUS" - In April 1937, D-ABYM Aeolus started service on the South Atlantic mail route from Bathurst, now Banjul, Gambia to Natal, Brazil (3040 km). Catapult ships were based in Bathurst and Fernando de Noronha to allow the aircraft to cross the Atlantic carrying a full load of mail. Aeolus was lost on 30 July 1937, when it had to make an ocean landing due to engine problems and was heavily damaged when Ostmark tried to retrieve the plane. So here is the current state. Readied for the painting. And I almost forgot to write that the decals and my friend Pavel will prepare the decals and masks again! And a few close ups: Hope you'll like it. Thanks for reading! Andrew S.
  2. Thank you all for your support, I am nicely surprised how this thred gained the information stream! Thanks again, I hope some of you will find my build useful, but I have to say that it will have not the same build speed as my other builds, due to the quality of the kit and my laziness Yes, you are right, asymetric was just the N 219 as far as I know. I would like to pay more attention on the details in the cockpit, some hints are in the drawing above, but I think there was some build of resin S.5 1/32 on some forum, but I just can't find it now... If someone knew which build I mean, please remind me. There was step by step guide of the build with really brilliant result. But I think internet just damned it forever. Thanks Moa, good luck with yours, they are exciting! Yees, I have been in the London museum, where the other S.6 is located, and it was a really nice view! Yes, I will add those, but I think that floats widening is slowly becoming out of the question (I just want this done :D) I will take a good care of the floats with the details, but the wrong width will be unfortunalety unchanged. For the greater good. Thanks Toby! as I wrote above, I am worried that the widening the floats will be hard, when they are glued together now... That was a fault of the fast building and not much thinking about that. Which seems to be fitting to me in these days. But your idea is worth thinking through, maybe I will give it a try Good luck with your small one, I am not going to buy it therefore it's too small in 1/48 I haven't decided the colour yet, but the blue will be the ordinary Tamiya Acrylic blue (I can't remember the number) and the silver will be maybe the GS C8 Silver, or the Alclad Aluminium. Or something completely different. I prefer the S.4, but I think but there is a tiny nuance between their features Wow, that's a lot of quotes, sorry for that! (but I am very happy for your interest!)
  3. My first pre-quarantine build is 1927 Schneider Throphy winner the N 220 S.5 flown by Flt. Lt. Webster, A.F.C. produced by Ukrainian AMP. I bought this kit right after its release on Ebay and started building it immediatelly. This kit is very challenging. Put simply, it has loads of extra plastic seals and burrs as any othter ordinary short run kit has... I admire R. J. Mitchell's lifework of aircraft constructions and this one just fits in the line leading directly to the Spitfire. (I hope the Ukrainians will continue with other types such as S.4 and S.6...) Here is just a small peek at the machine: https://www.thisdayinaviation.com/tag/supermarine-s-5/ So the internet search was held for the purpose of gaining valuable study material. Then I started with the wings, which needed loads of grinding to achieve the smoothenes and the sharp trailing edges. I also removed the upper positive ribs and replaced them with a simple dual line of rivets (as seen on the original). I took care of the elevators too. Then I started working on the floats. But at that moment the progress stopped until now. My friend #Dusan R has just started his own S.5 from AMP and he found out a few mistakes this kit contains. For instance the float's width is smaller in comparison with the drawing and also with the photos. The starboard float struts should be longer than the port ones and there are some other issues with the engine cowling (which will be presented during the build). That will be all for now with the S.5, thanks for reading and have a good model building time during the lockdown. Cheers! Andrew
  4. (pre-Quarantine update) As the camera session was held today, I made a few photos of a 2-week-old progress on the LO-O. I made the rivets using a Rosie the Riveter device directly into the plastic (I played with the idea to do it in to the layer of surfacer primer too), then put the fuselage and wings together and the last bit was making the exhaust light flashers (help me with the name please) from the spare box, as seen in the coloured photo above. And that's all for now, as you will see why in the new threads by me... Thanks for watching. Cheers, Andrew
  5. That's one hell of the Spitfire Dušan, perfect job. 👍
  6. Congrats to your finished build, it looks pretty good!
