  1. Good choice @PatW. Will Hoy was the guide when I was lucky enough to win a look around the team garage at Donington when he was driving for Vic Lees ( controversial 😄) team . He was a proper gentleman. Gary .
  2. It's nice to see an unMartini Delta ! I think your correct to fasten the belt onto the rollcage , I remember my 2 Deltas having the same set up. Gary .
  3. I didn't see Roger driving but I did see him from a distance presenting Colin McRae with his winners trophy at the 1995 RAC Rally finish .
  4. Great result . I built the yellow Promatkt sister car back in the 90s and remember it being really well detailed compared to the rally cars I tend to build . This era of DTM came to Donington Park , of which I attended and was well impressed by the F1 style big budget paddock set - up . Gary .
  5. That's coming along really well. The paper seat belts work well , much better than the usual ribbon I would say . Gary.
  6. I think if I hadn't known about Makinen's liking for larger wheels I would probably have used the taller tyre as it is a more chunky tread pattern . Glad to have helped out with future builds ! Thanks for the kind comments everyone Gary .
  7. Thanks Trevor . I read that too about the wheels getting mismatched ! Thanks Chris. Did you have problems with window fitment on your Escorts ? Gary .
  8. Thanks a lot , Roger . As usual for a Belkits there's a few unnecessary problems but with a bit of thought they can be overcome . Gary .
  9. After preparing the ill fitting windows last weekend , this weekend it was time to fit them . By cutting them off separately it left little room around their lower edges to apply glue , and they tended to push out of their frames too . However , gentle persuasion and walking away to allow the glue to cure has given good results . No longer are they too low and the extra effort has been worthwhile . The white gem tech glue can be seen below on the minimal glueing area . Once the windows had set things moved on swiftly . Door handles and wipers were added . The wipers are painted with Green Stuff chrome paint- again brilliant stuff and the tiniest amount is needed as it does tend to run like mercury ! The actual blades I did with a black Sharpie . Two sets of tyres are in the box . No mention in the instructions as to which to use , but research tells me Roger Clark and the other team drivers used 13 inch wheels , Timo Makinen demanded 15 inch , much to the annoyance of the Ford team . So the larger tyres in this kit are obviously to be used on the Makinen version of the kit . Coaxing the tyres onto the rims took a lot of pressing and sore thumb ends !! The wheels fit very loosely onto the stub axles so glueing and leaving to dry in a hopefully correct position is the order of the day . Putting the body onto the chassis is , as previously discussed extremely nerve racking . At least it is a secure and solid fit . The 4 spotlights have very little area to glue to and the I would have liked some covers for them , of at least have the option . The real car uses elasticated covers , but I can't really come up with a homemade solution . I've added some wire on the brackets for the lights . Just a few small details to add now and the Escort will be finished . Thanks for looking Gary.
  10. Excellent work . The best A4 shape - after this they became too big, to my eyes at least . Gary .
  11. That's a very passable result 👏. Getting the decals to conform to the vent without tears or air bubbles is a big job in itself ! Gary .
  12. I'm off to the Scramble at Bicester in April , @PatW. Gary
  13. We watched up to about car 60 then headed back to Beverley . Gary .
  14. The current R2 cars are good to watch. Having more power and aero will surely mean WRC1 cars will be obsolete so just go down the R2 route . Its only going to be the most knowledgeable rally fans who would notice the performance difference anyway . As I have seen many times while out spectating , most people are just happy to be watching cars going fast ! As for downsizing service park structures all the teams should have to follow M Sports gazebo route . How Hyundai have got away with their F1 style service area , where only the privileged get to see inside, for so long is beyond me . It's just not rallying ! Gary .
  15. I agree @Anteater. We watched at a junction on the Hatfield stage . As I mentioned the approach speeds were incredible . If I had known you were about , we could have met . Gary .
  16. I like the grey Escort, Pat . Some nice details on it . I never saw Gerry racing but I have seen his old Vauxhall's and read some amusing stories about him and his antics ! Keep up the good work in your new place ! Gary .
  17. I've tried a dry fit of the floorpan / body once and it was an extremely tight fit . Even worse to separate them .... so I will wait until the very end to join them together again. Gary .
  18. Thanks Steve . Seems we have experienced the same problems . I have cut the side windows from the main frame and hopefully they will fit , even though the glue area is very slim . Photos are in the WIP section BTW. Gary.
  19. @triumphfan I'm building the Belkits Escort and the windows sit too low inside the bodyshell , even though they clip into place firmly. Just wondered how you faired with yours ? Gary .
  20. I agree with all the other nice comments @Spiny. The bit of BMF ing I did on the 240Z was quite satisfying to do - in the same strange way that i find decalling satisfying . I like the flocking too . Gary.
  21. @keefr22I was lucky enough to follow the grey Escort heading out to the first stage . All I'll say is I don't know what other road users would make of his tyre warming antics ! But I was impressed ! Gary.
  22. I reckon the Escort might be the most expensive . They might be getting away from where they started out , but those modified mk 2 's are works of art . It makes a change to see rally cars on tarmac , Keith . They really do pedal their cars hard !! Gary.
  23. More top rally cars near to me yesterday as the East Riding Stages Rally took place . Based in Beverly , near Hull and using closed public roads , some of the speeds and late braking approaching the junction I was watching from by the top cars was amazing to see . Here's some interesting cars taking part I thought I would share . Aston Martin Rally GT . Very rare and sounds great . Running in the same class as the Aston was this Porsche 911 GT3. There were some highly modified mk 2 Escorts taking part. David Bogie in a rare appearance This is the interior of the one above . This really is an Escort ! Thanks for looking Gary .
  24. I had not noticed the missing dot over the "i" . Now you've mentioned it I will forever notice it !!! Thanks Keith . Hopefully my solution will work if I have enough area left to take glue . Gary .
  25. @Spiny Hopefully the windows should fit better . A dry fit shows there's not much room for glue though .... Gary .
