  1. Well, it depends... For most I work with those kits that satisfy me for the moment. But it also depends on availability of time, correct paints and decals, what stage during the build and for most "inspiration". Building and painting is fun. Puttying, wetsanding and masking is not that fun. I like building when I got light so I can see and the sun is warm. In the dark winter I feel it's difficult to build and paint. And as many builders here at BM I also got an big "stash" of unbuilt kits and "kits on work". I feel an kit gives most pleasure during work. When finished it looks nice but doesn't give that satisfaction as a when during building and painting. But I also feel that reading other builders experiences and looking at their kits during work is as much part of the hobby as my own builds. Again it's about inspiration. So for the moment the main effort is about building these two Mustang's. But is there a thing I can do with easy with the other kits in the same time I try to do it. I like the Tamiya and Airfix 1/72 scale P-51D kits because one usually gets nice results rather quick without any problems. Sometimes it's fun with an challenge as with an old Heller, Hasegawa or an new Forces of Valor P-51D kit. But now and then an easy and fast build is needed... Thanks for asking Col.! Cheers / André
  2. HobbyBoss or not, you did än fantastic work with that kit! Cheers / André
  3. We will find out Torbjörn. Orange is the new black. Well a yellow tail is ok too. Wonder who first finds out which that aircraft is and who flew it? Tamiya TS-30 Silver Leaf on the fuselages (over AS 12 now only seen at the exhaustplates), TS-12 Orange and TS-34 Camel Yellow. Cheers / André
  4. I almost not dare to say that it is two of a build of five Mustang's. But these two has Nordic connections... Cheers / André
  5. Indeed Col. Thanks! And som NMT paint too (Tamiya AS-12 Bare Metal Silver). Cheers / André
  6. Yes I knew, a bit late. But the tail is glued and faired to the fuselage. The build goes on after an dark winter! For some reason the backplate to the spinner is moulded toghether with nose. Had to do something about that... Cheers / André
  7. Ok, some work done during the weekend... I had an Tamiya P-51D with Nordic connections in the Mustang GB. I take the liberty to continue that build here. Cheers / André
  8. What I remember was that the pilot passed out because contamination of the Starfighter's liquid oxygen system. A problem causing loss of consciousness of the pilots more then once and listed as contributing factor in some of the accidents with the Starfighter...
  9. The Revell F-104G in "lizzard green" as in Tamiya TS-28 Olive Drab (RAL 6003 olivgrűn)... ...and the Hasegawa F-104G in Weißaluminium (RAL 9006)... Next step is to do some masking before painting dark green (FS 34079 SEA Dark Green) and dark grey (RAL 7012 Bazaltgrau).
  10. A Norwegian Starfighter heading Antarctica? Green is always nice this time of the year! By the way, some years ago I read about an Luftwaffe Starfighter that ended it's yourney somewhere outside Bodö (?) in Norway flying with an pilot who passed out somewhere in Germany. Any idea of the markings of that aircraft? Cheers / André
  11. Some of use the Tamiya AS and TS paints for NMT aircrafts such as P-51 Mustang, F-86 Sabre and F-104 Starfighter. So what could be used and what is best avoided? I made an quick comparison... And this is what I got... As can be seen is that TS-17 and AS-12 are rather close to each other. TS-30 is lighter and lighter compared to TS-17 and AS-12. When I build an P-51 I goes for TS-30 and AS-12. TS-42 Light Gun Metal is darker but I feel is not for use when it comes to aircraft kits. It's to "grainy" wich almost destroys the look of a kit if used. I feel it's best avoided. Cheers / André
  12. Hi, I have a idea about to build an US F-4G in Euro One Scheme. So it's my plan to found out which Tamiya paints that goes for those FS colours. Cheers / André
  13. Hi! So now I make another try to build an Mustang during an Group Build. I tried in the latest P-51 Mustang GB but the winter was long, cold and dark. Now when the light has returned I make an new effort to build an Mustang here at the Nordic GB. Some time ago I had an idea to build an Norwegian F-5B. But that Italeri kot was sold before I got it. But albeit a little late I make an try to join in with an J26 instead. And my plan is to use the well knewn 1/72 scale Airfix F-51D for this build. I knew I had it somewhere in my stash up at the attic and with some time spending searching I found it. And I will use the nice J26 decals from Mose Republic... http://www.mooserepublic.se/product/j-26-mustang-part-i/ So, lets se if we can build, paint and finish this Mustang? The plan is to build an Swedish J26 from Frösön 1951 with some nice orange exerzise markings. I feel there is always place for another colourfull Mustang! Cheers / André
  14. Great work! Some lancer's to match them? Cheers / André
  15. Impressive work! A great pleasure to read and follow this topic! Cheers / André
  16. Ok, we make a try with an Airfix 1/72 scale P-51D. Or as in Swedish - J26 Mustang "blå Kalle" (blue Kalle) from F4 at Frösön in orange exercise markings from 1951. It's always nice with colourfull Mustang's. https://www.rebell.com/svenskt/decals-masks/j26-mustang-del-1.html Cheers / André
  17. So, the big painting process not so far away. My plans are to build the Hasegawa kit as one of those Starfighter's painted in Norm -62 I saw as child during visits in Pfeffenhausen not far from Ingolstadt i Bavaria. They where flying the roofs of the houses and I have never seen any aircraft flying that low since. https://www.cybermodeler.com/aircraft/f-104/f-104_profile04.shtml The Revell kit is planned to be painted in the late Norm -83 camouflage. Not as "German" as the earlier Norm -62 but still more interesting than the grey painted aircraft's from today. http://www.ipmsdeutschland.de/FirstLook/Revell/Rev_F-104G_Starfighter/Rev_Lockheed_F-104G_Starfighter.html
  18. Hi, I knew that I am an slow builder and have an bad reputation concerning finished kits. But this is an Nordic GB and I think I have an Heller Viggen somewhere in the stash. And I knew for sure there is one or two P-51D Mustang's. Is it ok to join in albeit rather late? Cheers / André
  19. Fantastic work with the main landing gears and all those almost impossible angles of an Starfighter in starting and landing mode. What about the airbrakes? Where they used during landing? Cheers / André
  20. And the Revell kit? Well the work goes on with that kit too. I painted the intakes black and silver. But my opinion is that the only paintwork needed was the black one (but it looks good ). Not much can be seen so I think one can save time and paint by leave the silver and only paint them black. On the aft fuselage I think I leave the airbrakes open as the Hasegawa kit dpn't have that option (albeit Starfighters usually have them closed as Georgio earlier mentioned). They fit well but as there are no hinges (as on the Esci/Italeri kit) nor steps to glue them on I think it's better to try to leave them open instead of taking the risk to loose them to deep into the fuselage. And Revell 1+1+1=1...
  21. The forward Hasegawa fuselage joined with the aft Hasegawa fuselage (no, I didn't mix the fuselage parts with the Revell ones). One stage during building an Hasegawa or Revell Starfighter that gives much critics is that the instructions tells that to fit the landinggear early before joining the forward and fuselage. In fact that isn't needed. One can join the forward and aft fuselage without the landinggear... ...and insert the landing gear parts in afterwards (wich makes the masking and painting of the aircraft a lot more easier)... The critical parts C5 (Hasegawa) and/or 34 (Revell) can with no problems be applied to the fuselage later on with the other needed parts like on most other kits. The fact that the mentioned parts C5 and 34 are so identical that both can be used tells something...
  22. The Bäckebo torpedo. An true history one can build. https://dflund.se/~triad/rockets/therocket.html http://www.svengrahn.pp.se/histind/V2Sweden1944/V2Sweden1944.htm
  23. The build goes on albeit slowly... As the critical stage is to get the forward fuselages to fit nice to the aft fuselages it takes some carefull dryfitting before gluing the intakes and other parts to the fuselages. To get some flex and bigger margins I didnt glue the aft fuselages with the landing gear bays. I also took the time to cut of some plastic from the aft of the forward fuselage on the Hasegawa kit and to wetsand it against an flat surface to get an nice fit to the aft fuselage.
