  1. Thanks Andre

48 is my scale for fighters but I looked at something similar to what you described and umed and arred over it before settling on Unkranian splinter. At least until I saw the digital version. Then I started uming and arring again

I started off last year to do a 'British Airliners' build in 144 scale. Doing ok so far but it seems that some of the smaller interesting types would be easier to do in 72 scale, availability of kits and decals. I am kind of reluctant to do this as part of the process is to see how the different airliners look like next to each other, like how small a Comet is compared to a 707. Anyone building in mixed scale and how do you display them, in separate cases or whatever?

For me, I guess it depends on subject, availability and feasibility. For fighters I generally prefer 1/48, airliners, 1/72 unless it starts getting a little silly size wise then I might mix it up a little. So I have the 707 and Concorde in 72, but a 747 in 100, to which I will probably pair Tamiya's Shuttle Orbiter. There's still a real shortage of good kits above 144 unfortunately. It would be great to see a Trident or VC-10 done as a top notch styrene kit.

  3. Mine arrived today. Have to say I am very pleased. A significant improvement over the Academy kit for sure, especially in the cockpit area where the original, including around the canopy, had to be all but ditched for AMS. One thing I've noticed though is that there are two instrument panels but decals only for one. I'm guessing the 'glass' console is intended for a later variant? A 35 perhaps??

  4. Hi folks!

Although I like the SU-27 I've not been a huge fan of the standard Russian colour schemes. Does anyone know of any Russian 27's that have sported a 'splinter' scheme? I've seen the Ukraine version and I'm tempted to do one of those but that leaves one kit spare which I would really like to make as a Russian variant. Google searches have thrown up some great looking Russian schemes but they appear to be CGI rather than the real deal and I've struggled to find evidence of any real life Russian 27's sporting such. Any help/ideas would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

  5. As an avid gamer years back I recall the farce that became of the oft promised 'Duke Nukem Forever' to the extent that it eventually became the byword for vapourware. It's beginning to feel as though the Moebius Raptor is becoming the modelling (or at least the Sci-Fi modelling) equivalent. I can't recall how many times it has been 'expected' but all's I see are pictures. Don't suppose anyone has any solid info on if this is a real thing or simply a figment of the imagination?

    Cheers

  6. Yep. Got an email from Hornby saying the date had been pushed back to 15 December 😕. I also hesitated at the price but I like the subject and given the number of times my finger has hesitated over the "buy" button for the Revell/Matchbox versions in the past the idea of a new tool was just too good to pass up.

Thanks. Your confirmation that the ZM Phantom has "extreme accuracy"  makes me even more anxious to get several!

But then, how do/would you know? :o

    Gene K

At which point did I say "The ZM Phantom has extreme accuracy"? At which point did the suggestion of being broadly satisfied with a kit if it looks right imply that the ZM Phantom had "extreme accuracy"? And evidently my point about "...a cursory comparison with my Academy F4-J and a few pictures I have of the real thing..." was not implying a detailed and authoritative analysis of the accuracy of the kit.

The question being asked was 'what did those who bought the kit think of it'. That is all I provided, my thoughts of the kit that I bought. Please take it in the spirit it was meant :)

    Hello all!

So, what's the news from Telford this year?

Rather than chase down the individual bits, how about sharing them here?

What new kits were announced?  What kits were newly made available there?  What new after market bits?  Decals?  Tools?

What model hobby news was revealed at Telford?  What rumors?

    Hi Madoc

Today was my first time at Telford (at any model event aside from Small Space) so I probably wasn't paying too much attention to be honest. I did, however, get a look at the mockup of the new 1/72 Airfix Phantom FG.1. It's nice to see them doing this even though 48 is really my scale. I especially liked the open radome and folding wings. I also saw two built-up versions of the new Victor, both of which looked great. I'm looking forward to having mine delivered though 'slightly' disappointed that it's release is being delayed until next month. I also managed to bag a 1/48 Zoukei Mura F-4J which makes a great (albeit expensive) alternative to the Hasegawa and Academy kits. Cheers for now!
