  1. For me, I guess it depends on subject, availability and feasibility. For fighters I generally prefer 1/48, airliners, 1/72 unless it starts getting a little silly size wise then I might mix it up a little. So I have the 707 and Concorde in 72, but a 747 in 100, to which I will probably pair Tamiya's Shuttle Orbiter. There's still a real shortage of good kits above 144 unfortunately. It would be great to see a Trident or VC-10 done as a top notch styrene kit.
  2. Also hanging in for the AM kit. I've been hoping for a 350 Type 42 for ages so it can accompany my Invincible build!
  3. Absolutely stunning! Really wanted to get one of these but was worried about whether resin could hold its integrity at that size so I opted for the upcoming Zvezda kit instead. Still, your build is a great source of inspiration!
  4. Mine arrived today. Have to say I am very pleased. A significant improvement over the Academy kit for sure, especially in the cockpit area where the original, including around the canopy, had to be all but ditched for AMS. One thing I've noticed though is that there are two instrument panels but decals only for one. I'm guessing the 'glass' console is intended for a later variant? A 35 perhaps??
  5. Thanks Mungo. Definitely going for a Ukranian build and have the Begemot set to support this. Might still dress the other in the splinter scheme above but with Russian markings or else apply a 35 scheme to it.
  6. Hi folks! Although I like the SU-27 I've not been a huge fan of the standard Russian colour schemes. Does anyone know of any Russian 27's that have sported a 'splinter' scheme? I've seen the Ukraine version and I'm tempted to do one of those but that leaves one kit spare which I would really like to make as a Russian variant. Google searches have thrown up some great looking Russian schemes but they appear to be CGI rather than the real deal and I've struggled to find evidence of any real life Russian 27's sporting such. Any help/ideas would be much appreciated. Cheers Nocool...
  7. Do you think there's a way of then printing colour over the white?
  8. Noooooooooooooo............................!
  9. Slight change of plan folks! I've ditched the Jolly Rogers idea and decided to go for the Grey Ghosts B that got its tail 'zapped' when cross-decking with Ark Royal. If the decals arrive...
  10. A 1/350 D would break me. Literaly! I still shudder at the prospect of building my TMP/A in all its intimidating Aztec glory.
  11. We got as far as some nice CAD videos but then nothing more. Does anyone know if the Kinetic T-Harriers have been put on ice? It's all gone worryingly quiet. Cheers Nocool...
  12. I think I've got more chance of 'turning into' a bucket before I see this released
  13. As an avid gamer years back I recall the farce that became of the oft promised 'Duke Nukem Forever' to the extent that it eventually became the byword for vapourware. It's beginning to feel as though the Moebius Raptor is becoming the modelling (or at least the Sci-Fi modelling) equivalent. I can't recall how many times it has been 'expected' but all's I see are pictures. Don't suppose anyone has any solid info on if this is a real thing or simply a figment of the imagination? Cheers Nocool...
  14. I placed a pre-order for one of these on that well known wallet draining site. If I'm lucky I might see it Jan or Feb
  15. Just had a text from Hornby saying I'll get mine early next week
  16. Sorry, my limit is £199. Gotta have some standards
  17. Yep. Got an email from Hornby saying the date had been pushed back to 15 December . I also hesitated at the price but I like the subject and given the number of times my finger has hesitated over the "buy" button for the Revell/Matchbox versions in the past the idea of a new tool was just too good to pass up.
  18. At which point did I say "The ZM Phantom has extreme accuracy"? At which point did the suggestion of being broadly satisfied with a kit if it looks right imply that the ZM Phantom had "extreme accuracy"? And evidently my point about "...a cursory comparison with my Academy F4-J and a few pictures I have of the real thing..." was not implying a detailed and authoritative analysis of the accuracy of the kit. The question being asked was 'what did those who bought the kit think of it'. That is all I provided, my thoughts of the kit that I bought. Please take it in the spirit it was meant
  19. Hi Madoc Today was my first time at Telford (at any model event aside from Small Space) so I probably wasn't paying too much attention to be honest. I did, however, get a look at the mockup of the new 1/72 Airfix Phantom FG.1. It's nice to see them doing this even though 48 is really my scale. I especially liked the open radome and folding wings. I also saw two built-up versions of the new Victor, both of which looked great. I'm looking forward to having mine delivered though 'slightly' disappointed that it's release is being delayed until next month. I also managed to bag a 1/48 Zoukei Mura F-4J which makes a great (albeit expensive) alternative to the Hasegawa and Academy kits. Cheers for now!
  20. I popped over to Telford today and managed to bag one while I was there. I've just been doing a cursory comparison with my Academy F-4J and a few pictures I have of the real thing. From what I can see so far, there is more detail on the Academy kit though some of the details on the ZM kit appear to be more accurate. I've never been one who hankers after extreme accuracy. If the kit looks the part and has nice enough details then that's usually good enough for me and I've felt positively spoilt with the Hasegawa, Tamiya and the new Academy kits. The ZM kit is very nice and will build into a great model but I certainly don't think it is worth a price double that of the Academy. Same price? I might go the ZM, but only just. And I'm glad I didn't pay the £35 extra now for the UK decals and metal gear struts. Just my tuppence on this one. Cheers for now!
  21. Thanks for all the input folks! I've taken a leaf out of another build posted here and decided to Jolly Roger it using the decals from an Academy F-4J (which I am turning into a VX'er). I'm also rescribing it, using it to practice such skills in the first instance along with providing a test bed for my riveters. I'm just returning to my F-2 build but will post pictures as soon as I can.
  22. LOL! This was one of the first kits I bought when returning to the hobby and didn't know any better. 'Both' that the early Hasegawa Phantom's had raised detail 'and' that I could probably get the decals aftermarket. A valuable lesson learned on both fronts!
