It is unlikely that anyone else will ever produce another 1/48th scale U-boat, let alone a better one, hence my post.

Ah, I see what you mean. I think the only other kits in this scale are the Ark Models and Hachette, neither of which hold a candle to this. I don't think its a massively complex build. Just a MASSIVE build.

Hope it doesn't end up like my 1/35 E-boat, started with the small stuff as per the instructions, stuck the hull and top on and thought, where the hell am I going to put this when done.

Ended up back in the box until the mancave gets done above the garage, I just knew if I carried on parts were going to get broken and lost from packing the thing up all the time

Actually my mantlepiece is far bigger making it the perfect place. Plus my work bench/desk is larger so there's plenty of space for the build. The only limiting factor at the moment is my skills which I still need to build up, especially since I haven't made a model ship since 1987.

  3. That's great stuff, thanks Jabberwocky!

I did some research a while back when I was thinking of building a 1/72 version but didn't find much about interior lighting. I'm also surprised if Trumpeter didn't include the bow caps. If necessary I'll create some in CAD and print them via Shapeways. I think it'll be some time till I build this kit. I'm only just finishing my third model since returning to the hobby so still need to brush up on my skills.

Wow, going to go lie down now.

Would look great on the Mantlepiece. How to convince the wife, Hmmm

Oddly enough it's the perfect fit for the mantlepiece. I'm also hoping to light the interior with both white and red LED's to show it switiching between day and night.

I put the box on end and found I could rest my chin on it. That's how big it is.

  5. The box measures 142 cm in length. The kit when built will be about 139 cm. The main hull is split into three parts, not to fit the box which would be big enough to fit the full length, but for the effect the model is trying to show. The front two thirds is split between a grey port side and a clear starboard to show the inner workings. The rear third is entirely clear platsic.

I saw it for £100 off the shelf price and just couldn't help myself...

Having seen this that I ordered 2 Molotow chrome pens and a masking pen yesterday. They arrived today and they are every bit as good as the video implies. They produce an uncannily shiny surface.

    Ditto!

I am only going to have space and funds for one large 1:48 Eagle- I do hope after Round 2 has fully milked the special edition route they will consider offering individual pods or 1:72 versions...

I also wish they would do this, especially turn out 1/72 versions of the kit. The latter would allow us to finally put that dreadful MPC kit to rest and would allow me to build a whole fleet of Eagle's in scale with my launch pad and Hawks

  8. Thanks folks!

I was going to try for a compromise - the det cord fashioned from styrene 'wire'. Plan would be to fix it using clear fix or another canopy suitable cement. Unfortunately the plan is now on hold since I managed to accidentally split the canopy and now have to source a replacement :undecided:

  9. Hi folks!

Does anyone know if any company produced a decal for the canopy detonator cord for the 1/48 Tornado, whether part of an AMS set or included within kit decals? I'm having a hard time replicating the cord in paint with my masks producing 'less than optimal' results. Any ideas most welcome. Cheers!

  10. Well, it'll be at least another week before I get to see mine given that it arrived in the UK last week and was promptly handed over to Parcel McParcelFace for ransom calculation. I don't object to paying the taxes due. I 'do' object to paying the "handling fee". But what really gets me going is the length of time they take for what is essentially a computerised process and this makes the whole "handling fee" even more difficult to swallow.

Still, hopefully I can join the fun soon and like many others will be looking to light my kit.

  11. Hi Folks!

Just wondering if anyone knows if any AMS ever made a 1/48 radar for the Airfix Buccaneer? Failing that does anyone know of any decent information sources about the type of radar used (description/type/pictures)? If they're good enough I might try and develop a CAD model and 3D print on. Any help appreciated!

    Cheers!

Note to the Mods! This is just a query about the existence of a part and/or pointers to good references, hence not in the 'Want's' section.
