Bandai 1/72 PG Millennium Falcon. even though I have far trickier kits to build such as the MPC USS Cygnus with custom PE, the Bandai Falcon always leaves me feeling intimidated.

Yes, am sure that's what they mean mate ... pretty sure Tamiya have never offered moving parts on Aircraft kits apart from maybe their 1/32 Zero undercarriage, and that was more a tech demo of what they can do, Japanese subject pride an all.
Optional canopy's in kits open or closed are fine with me ... one sprue with this new Tamiya F4 shot shows a complete cast closed Phantom canopy, from back end and Nav seat to Pilot and front canopy too as one part, the whole thing ... its good to have options and Tamiya, bless em, always provide options
We can all knock out an OOB kit that is slightly different from others ... very, very clever company indeed.
I like the 'slots' approach to the wings. Looks very similar to the Meng F/A-18E and gives me the ability to 'switch-out' folded-up and down configurations. That said, I could really do with a look at their instructions to get an idea of their thinking and what possibilities might be available.

Well last year I almost bought the Tamiya kit at £78, so glad I didn't as £22 more delivered I couldn't resist the HK one
It was the 'rumour' of this that caused me to let go of my Tamiya kit and bits last year.

The chance to do what I’ve really wanted to for a 1/48 F-4 in the easy way that Tamiya seems to have allowed for is why I’m likey to get at least two of these and start them quite quickly.
Aside from my Vandy WIP I’ll likely sell my unstarted Academy kits and use what’s left as a test-bed for ideas. As the years have gone on I’ve learned to appreciate simplicity over detail and complexity but Tamiya seems to have found a way to bridge both.
One thing I am curious about from reading the review at The Modelling News site was the mention that ‘...the canopy can be opened and closed...’ I assume they mean that there are options to having it displayed in ‘either’ the opened or closed position rather than having actual hinged parts that allow at a mechanical level the canopy to be opened and closed at will?

It's a really curious engineering setup that I can't quite fathom. I see shades of their approach to their F-14 in the wing stubs but the rest of it seems to share similarities with the way Bandai engineered their Star Wars kits - lots of slots and tabs to make joins and alignment that much better. I'm a bit puzzled by the approach to the fuselage - why have one side split but the other side whole?

Wow! Looks like a whole load of interesting engineering there that I can’t fathom as yet. Looking forward to seeing what the instructions show. Also glad they included one of my favourite schemes - VF51 CAG.

Also just wondering whether, given my glacier pace at getting kits moved forwards, I might at least start adding reviews of my own on subjects not already covered drawing upon items from my own extensive home insulator selection and could include both resin and IP subjects such as the Howling Wolf Shadow Battlecrab, Breen Cruiser, 1/1400 Valodore, along with some IP stuff like the War of the Worlds Tripod? Would anyone find it useful?

That Kfs review simply crowns it for me as a must buy. I'm currently working on which bits I could start while waiting for the AM to arrive.

It would be great to try and do a side-by-side between these, their LooK set and the Quinta Studio version to see the difference. What the manufacturer's are putting into these details just seems to be getting better and better. In fact its actually caused me to stall on a couple of builds in the anticipation (or rather 'hope') that one of the manufacturer's will bring out Space/3D sets for those (I'm thinking the oft neglected British subjects such as the Tornado, Harrier and Jaguar). Even then I'm hoping I'll still have enough time to actually fit them and get enough of the kit done before yet another manufacturer ups the ante with a cockpit set that actually has working switches!

It's a great looking set Mike. I was just thinking how amazing that might make the model look and then remembered that I sold my kit to you! Classic own goal!

I don´t undestand this "nick picking" and "scepticism" over every new kit. Monogram B-17 is obsolete, vintage kit. I bought a HKM B-17 and it is a Fortress. Look it is as fortress, now you have many AM sets.... and you can build an B-17 in modern style...
Lancaster is the same case. A nice kit, for reasoneable price tag, with full rivets and nice detailing.
A 40 years NOBODY can make 1/48 Heavies or "Viermotorige". For me don´t exist a B-24, B-26, B-17 or Lancaster because i can´t build a kit older as me ! Lancaster in render looks as Lancaster, i pray for Modeling Gods for quarter scale Lanc from "Fix" but - not... B-17 from Tamiya was rumored a twenty years ago, but where is ? I understand a few people was a fanatics on this type and must have an absolute accurate kit... But nobody make it. "Viermotorige" moulds are expensive in quarter scale and nobody can make it. I wait for WnW gorgeous lancaster, as my last kit for Farewell in scale modeling - but where is WNW ? So, i can´t wait for hypotetics Fortress by Tamiya (they not make a P-38J or Me-262B !!!! )or lookin for obsolete and expensive their Lancaster. We live in strange times, with strange Pandemics, and isn´t time a wait.... Viermotorige can´t producers make, because every bought one and this is all. Producers make most favourite Mustang or Spit or Butcher Bird or Mess, because they sold many times with many variants and L.E.. Medium bombers make systematicaly one company (ICM) but not Heavy bombers.... Medium bombers are better choice for model companies... And when we are realistics, we must say a many traditional companies live from history.... re-released old kits, from new moneys.... Revell, Italeri, Heller.... few new kits and re-boxes of re-boxes.... Airfix run in small scale, Tamiya make a one -two new aircraft in year.... and Hasegawa in last times nothing
Only who makes a real new kits from real new tool are Asian and post-communistics Europe companies.... (Czech, Ukraine, Russian (Zvezda). But "Viermotorige" make a HK only
And when you can build a 1/48 you can´t bought a 1/72 or 1/32. (1/32 Heavies are for Lords in Manors...but are Lords scale modellers ?).
(Totally agree.
These are 'scale representations' using the tools available to the manufacturers and based on a whole host of design compromises and yet in almost every regard they blow the toolings of previous years out of the water in terms of engineering and options. They look the shape, they have at least as many, but generally far or more options available than their predecessors while the potential for super detailing - not just through AM but now 3D printing - can take them to heights never before available. If it doesn't look right to people then don't buy it. If it doesn't have the 'greebles' that they want then they should just add them themselves or not buy it. Or get the kit, measure the plastic, do a detailed compare and contrast with the Tamiya kit and even with other scaled kits, using laser measuring tools then compare with the real aircraft in museums and photos and plans and then send a dissertation back to HKM of all the faults and flaws and mistakes and missing details and lost opportunities, which might be more satisfying than just building and painting the kit?
It's a 'new tool 1/48 Lancaster!' - the only other one available in 40 years that a company has invested huge resources to produce and get into our hands in the 'middle of a global pandemic' which I think is extraordinary. And in all likelihood, AM companies will look to go to town on the detail sets. But with the economic fall-out from the pandemic still to really hit home in force there is, sadly, a good chance that a number of these projects may come to an end and that would be such a shame. So I'm with those that feel great that HKM appear have done 'enough' right to get me excited and want to give them my money. Just like I did with the recent Meng F/A-18E. And when the kit is in my hands I'll look it over against my books and if there's enough there that I like I'll keep and hopefully build and add detail as I go. Just as I did with the recent Meng F/A-18E (which from CAD's and photos taken under certain conditions, suggested to some that there were 'wrong' shapes all over the place - but looked fine when I placed the parts over the top of my Hasegawa Superbug - which I'm sure was probably also wrong back in its launch day but thankfully I missed any such commentary).
But sometimes it can be hard to feel good about a purchase after sifting through a lot of these comments. How could I possibly waste my money when it had already been pointed out by someone that the 'ECS Fairings' or some panels or other are 'clearly' the wrong shape and the 'Intake Valve' or whatever is more rounded when it should be oval. Wasn't I listening? Didn't I read the comments before I spent my money? Didn't I see what the statements about it being the wrong mark, or whatever, for that kind of feature? Didn't I look at the photos provided? Didn't I see the clear difference? Didn't I? Didn't I?
Maybe we even need two different kinds of forum? One for those that wish to study, dissect and criticise kits and one for those that wish to buy what they like the look of and then just get on with building, painting and sharing?
I think I will enjoy this kit. I hope others who buy it will do too and feel good about their purchase.

Hi folks!
Was wondering if anyone out there had any experience of making the hinges workable for undercarriage bay doors and canopies? I know this isn't everyone's bag but I have been trying to find a way of producing scale hinges but my engineering brain seems to struggle these days with conjuring the ideas to make this work. The canopy hinges for the F-4 Phantom are a particular challenge but so too are the hinges for the landing gear doors on the F-15. Neither having a simple loop and close approach. I saw a really good video on YouTube of a 1/48 F-35 with workable hinges but there was no information around the engineering unfortunately. Anyone who might be able to share any hints or tips, it would be most appreciated.
Cheers

Another question regarding this; do you have to worry about gravity separation (metallic particles being heavy) whilst the paint mix is in the spray cup?
Not for the AK's. I have the entire range plus several bottles of the Black Base which makes a fantastic gloss black in its own right. I've had them sat in the cup for a while as I've been faffing about with the model but they still sprayed fine.

Nope! As fast and pretty reliable as it always has been where I live and I'm pretty rural. Bought an item on Sunday, posted Monday, delivered today.

Just managed to bag one via a certain seller via a certain site with an ETA of Wednesday 3 March. And I've no idea what I'm going to do with it. I suppose I could just stare at the parts in fear for a few months?
...and then said seller promptly cancelled my order yesterday morning, citing incorrect pricing as the reason and initiating refund of my payment. So I then placed a new order at the 'correct' pricing with an ETA of Thursday. Only to be told today that they didn't actually have the item to be able to dispatch.
I remember the good old days when buying a thing meant being given the thing.

The Eagle has landed today.
This is the MPC Eagle 2 Model Kit from good old TV Series SPACE:1999 in 1/48 Scale. To be precise: The Eagle 2 with the Laboratory Pod (...while some claim that the Eagle 4 was the only ever with a Lab Pod in the Series....I need to follow up on this by rewatching the series before i start the build to refresh my brain. I must have been around 8 years old when this first aired here in germany.
I Found a seller on Ebay who sells the Eagle combined with the Spine Booster Kit for less than what others want just for the Eagle.
Even the Aluminum Bells were way cheaper than currently at HLJ. No Chance for me to let this pass. But looking at my stash i guess i will be retired before i start this build.
I'm hoping that Round 2 issue a 1/72 version of this and the cargo Eagle to accompany the 5 Transporters I have in the stash

Aside from the box art and racy postcards was there much difference between this and the original release?
-
Parts from Shapeways for two kits on the go - moveable parts for the wings, nosecone and refueling probe for a 1/48 F-4N and an AI.24 Foxhunter kit for a 1/48 Tornado ADV, along with a few enhancements for their ejection seats.

I hope you get to see it! And I hope the 48th scale folks get to see the same in their favorite scale. Reckon Meng could be persuaded to do a Blackbird series in 1/72 scale?
Well they snap out surprised us with their new tool Superbug so why not?

At least with the F-14 we got the D after the A complete with new parts and weapons so there's hope yet for at least a J and a C,D plus stores. Though I still feel it might be a stretch to imagine they'd make any of the long nose versions.
