Oooh, what did you get? (I find that the best way to buy otherwise hideously expensive kit is to buy it second hand - because of the high initial purchase price, most people tend to baby the things, and you can get a really good deal with a bit of careful shopping.)

That's pretty much what I did. Lots of research first into the best lens for my needs then more research into good second hand buys. The lens I bought is in excellent condition and works perfectly. Its a Canon EF 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM for which I'll soon be adding a 2 x Extender to take it up to 800mm (as the cost of a few F stops). Even though it was second hand still eye wateringly expensive. Especially when you hear comments about the cost of model kits these days, which pales in comparison 😬

  2. The weather has been all over the place. Felt the warmth of the sun for the first time at the weekend in what must be around 6 months so tried to get out in it as much as I could before it turned again. I’m so sick of rain.

  3. Makes me grateful that while I’ve let most of the ‘stash’ go (not much of a ‘stash’ now) I’ve managed to hang on to my Buck Rogers kits (Monogram Thunderfighter and Marauder) and Blake’s 7 Liberator. Once I’ve figured my current Space 1999 Eagle build I’ll be having a crack at them.

  4. Apparently Revell are bringing out their own 1/12 scale Speeder Bike and Biker Scout. This is a new tool, rather than a re-release of the Bandai kit, with the Biker Scout in a fixed (riding) pose, complete with miniature Grogu in a knapsack to represent the scout from the Mandalorian.

I’m looking forward to this, especially given the silly prices for the Bandai kit these days.

Finally got my hands on a 1/350 TOS Enterprise today after months of trying...

So I've now got all 3 in 1/350 with, for good measure, the 1/350 Enterprise 'nuclear wessel' as well.

Oh now you’ve got me started… I recently bagged the NX-01 (to add to my Refit kit) and now feel the urge to go for the original 1701 too. Though I’m tempted to hold out just in case R2 surprise us by releasing a 1/350 version of the ‘Strange New Worlds’ Enterprise 🤔

I've had a look at the neodymium magnets on Amazon, and they look very handy, even if I don't use them on this model, though I'm still undecided for now.

Do you think it makes a difference if the model is displayed on it's stand/base, which fits in to the bottom of the pod? Are tiny magnets likely to be strong enough to keep the entire model from slipping off the cargo pod, do you think?

    Thanks

The larger magnets should be strong enough but it’s worth testing first with scrap plastic and something of comparable size and weight to the main vehicle to see if it can hold. I was planning to enlarge the holes available so I could make use of magnets 3-4mm diameter. I’m also planning to add a spring mechanism to the landing gear.

  7. Similar to Ben above. When I designed my own version of a 12” Eagle back in 2013 I did it so the pod could be connected via neodymium magnets. Strong enough to keep the pod in place while also allowing for pods to be swapped with different versions. When I saw the new 14” kit didn’t include such a feature I just drew up my own based on the previous work.

🤔......arrrrrgh, now you have infected me. Thinking if i should sell my (unstarted) K´Tinga Kit and get me the Kronos One....

The PE looks amazing and the option to light the Warp Engines is another argument for the Kronos One as well....

That’s actually what I did. I originally bought the K’Tinga and lighting kit with the intention of designing my own modifications to make it into Kronos One, not thinking that they would consider releasing such a version as an actual kit. But when they announced it I sold mine in anticipation of this. Between Star Trek, Star Wars and Space 1999, Round 2 have been fantastic at releasing the kits I want to build. If only they they could get the Babylon 5 license.

    Beautiful Kit!

Do you happen to know, what the main difference between this Kit and the old K`TInge Class Cruiser (..also from Polar Lights) is?

I like the Paint Sceme from STVII more than the original Sceme from STI The Motion Picture....

Kronos One has a different bridge and warp nacelles from the regular K’Tinga, with the latter being lit up. It was also covered in gold structural work (labelled as golden battle adornments) which is represented by decals in the kit and to a finer degree by the PE set. I always liked the look of the K’Tinga since I first saw it in Star Trek The Motion Picture but it was Kronos One and it’s striking decor that made it the one I wanted to build.

  10. The ‘B’ arrived this afternoon. I hadn’t intended to buy one given I’ve struggled to do much with my Tamiya kits but for £30 less than everywhere else I’ve seen it I thought why not.

It’s a very nice kit. Probably a bit over engineered for my current abilities with more options than I’d likely make good use of but huge potential for those wishing to super detail. In fact I started work some time back on detailing a Hasegawa kit using the Blackdog and Kazan sets and this kit ironically has all of the modular parts suited to those details.
