  1. That's pretty much what I did. Lots of research first into the best lens for my needs then more research into good second hand buys. The lens I bought is in excellent condition and works perfectly. Its a Canon EF 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM for which I'll soon be adding a 2 x Extender to take it up to 800mm (as the cost of a few F stops). Even though it was second hand still eye wateringly expensive. Especially when you hear comments about the cost of model kits these days, which pales in comparison šŸ˜¬

    Easter

The weather has been all over the place. Felt the warmth of the sun for the first time at the weekend in what must be around 6 months so tried to get out in it as much as I could before it turned again. Iā€™m so sick of rain.
  3. A hideously expensive telephoto zoom lens for wildlife photography. No model making treats for me for a while.
  4. Makes me grateful that while Iā€™ve let most of the ā€˜stashā€™ go (not much of a ā€˜stashā€™ now) Iā€™ve managed to hang on to my Buck Rogers kits (Monogram Thunderfighter and Marauder) and Blakeā€™s 7 Liberator. Once Iā€™ve figured my current Space 1999 Eagle build Iā€™ll be having a crack at them.
  5. Just bacon. I save the sauce for sausage sandwiches and then itā€™s brown. But bacon has to be au naturale
  6. My family wellbeing and being able to afford a decent roof over my head and food on the table, closely followed by the source of most of my worries - work.
  7. Iā€™m actually in a similar spot with my own Lynx support set due to a controlled flight of my foot into the clear parts šŸ˜¬ Keen to see how you get on with this as I may have to copy!
  8. Finally! An IP version of this ship in 1/350. Might be the cue I need to get started on the 1/350 Illustrious (backdated and modified to Invincible 1982).
  9. Apparently Revell are bringing out their own 1/12 scale Speeder Bike and Biker Scout. This is a new tool, rather than a re-release of the Bandai kit, with the Biker Scout in a fixed (riding) pose, complete with miniature Grogu in a knapsack to represent the scout from the Mandalorian. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/revell-06786-speeder-bike--1518937 Iā€™m looking forward to this, especially given the silly prices for the Bandai kit these days.
  10. Tamiya 1/48 F-35B Added to the ā€˜Aā€™ I accidentally picked up last year. If I ever get round to it, itā€™ll sit next to GR.9, FA.2, FRS.1, FG.1 and Buccaneer to make up a Fleet Air Arm set.
  11. You wonā€™t be disappointed. Itā€™s absolutely exquisite. I got one of the first batch back in 2017 but Iā€™ve not had the courage to start it. The moulding and engineering are a work of art.
  12. Just picked up the new Revell 1/24 Star Wars Mandalorian N-1 Starfighter. Itā€™s big. My 1/350 NX-01 also arrived.
  13. Whatā€™s the old saying? Go big or go home? You could add USS Enterprise CV-6 USS Enterprise 1776 sloop HMS Enterprise 1744 šŸ˜‚
  14. Oh now youā€™ve got me startedā€¦ I recently bagged the NX-01 (to add to my Refit kit) and now feel the urge to go for the original 1701 too. Though Iā€™m tempted to hold out just in case R2 surprise us by releasing a 1/350 version of the ā€˜Strange New Worldsā€™ Enterprise šŸ¤”
  15. The larger magnets should be strong enough but itā€™s worth testing first with scrap plastic and something of comparable size and weight to the main vehicle to see if it can hold. I was planning to enlarge the holes available so I could make use of magnets 3-4mm diameter. Iā€™m also planning to add a spring mechanism to the landing gear.
  16. Similar to Ben above. When I designed my own version of a 12ā€ Eagle back in 2013 I did it so the pod could be connected via neodymium magnets. Strong enough to keep the pod in place while also allowing for pods to be swapped with different versions. When I saw the new 14ā€ kit didnā€™t include such a feature I just drew up my own based on the previous work.
  17. Thatā€™s actually what I did. I originally bought the Kā€™Tinga and lighting kit with the intention of designing my own modifications to make it into Kronos One, not thinking that they would consider releasing such a version as an actual kit. But when they announced it I sold mine in anticipation of this. Between Star Trek, Star Wars and Space 1999, Round 2 have been fantastic at releasing the kits I want to build. If only they they could get the Babylon 5 license.
  18. Kronos One has a different bridge and warp nacelles from the regular Kā€™Tinga, with the latter being lit up. It was also covered in gold structural work (labelled as golden battle adornments) which is represented by decals in the kit and to a finer degree by the PE set. I always liked the look of the Kā€™Tinga since I first saw it in Star Trek The Motion Picture but it was Kronos One and itā€™s striking decor that made it the one I wanted to build.
  19. Aztek Dummy paint masks and Paragrafix PE make the set complete for the Kronos One. I call this now complete package "no more excuses" as I have literally everything I need to build this if I can just muster the willpower and overcome the demons.
  20. I still have the parts I designed and had printed for a 12ā€ Space 1999 Eagle 10 years ago and theyā€™re fine. Most have been primed with custom photo etch attached, others still in original format. And the material predates the more recent resins.
  21. Latest stuffā€¦ a set of resin 3D printed phaser arrays for the 1/1400 Enterprise D that currently languishes in the loft of doom.
  22. The ā€˜Bā€™ arrived this afternoon. I hadnā€™t intended to buy one given Iā€™ve struggled to do much with my Tamiya kits but for Ā£30 less than everywhere else Iā€™ve seen it I thought why not. Itā€™s a very nice kit. Probably a bit over engineered for my current abilities with more options than Iā€™d likely make good use of but huge potential for those wishing to super detail. In fact I started work some time back on detailing a Hasegawa kit using the Blackdog and Kazan sets and this kit ironically has all of the modular parts suited to those details.
  23. I see your logic and it would be great if this were true. Given that the next aircraft after the Phantom (Sea Harrier FRS.1, FA.2 and F-35B) have now been subject to modern and recent toolings the Spey Phantoms (or rather their absence) stick out like the proverbial sore thumb. If Airfix popped out a 1/48 version with the same level of detail as the Sea King I think it would generate a sound like an orchestra of cash registers.
