  1. Thought I'd already started a post. Bit along the way now. I've made the odd error and for the most part enjoyed it. I have decided for the most part that a lot of exterior photoetch isn't for me. I don't have steady enough hands to apply them (little antenna things etc) on the odd occasion I was tempted to drop kick the lot into the River Wear. However I persevered. The plane: currently has no seats thanks to the poor instructions which meant I ended up cutting bits I shouldn't, as they helpfully don't show the seats from the front, just angled pictures of the back and sides! Some stores The two holes you can see are for 2mm x 1mm magnets. Only the ASRAAMS won't have them, allows me to switch things up a bit. The plane has had two coats of pledge on the top, need to get the underside done, decal and weather! While I wait for it to dry I'll finish off my Apache and look at making a proper start on my supacat jackal.
  2. Bit stumped with some of the pe. The parachute housing in particular, instructions get you to drill 4mm hole, put a rolled up tube in and also to add apiece to part 51, which appears to be the cover. However no indication of whether this is modelled open or closed? Seems a bit odd to have pe that can't be seen. Any one able to guide or suggest? Looked through the stickied typhoon thread to no avail.
  3. Doh! Sitting here with the Eduard exterior set and never thought to look!
  4. I've just started revell twin seated. Decided to grind the plastic behind the grill located just aft of the intakes. I went too far, now I have a hole where there should be a grill Need an idea or suggestion on how to repair, please!
  5. Yeah I'm enjoying the newer kits. Got myself a few older airfix kits from ebay along with newer. Got to say molds are better and instructions vastly improved. I'm thinking of only temp fixing the wheels in place and getting Rhino wheel kit as permanent replacement. Just realised some of the guys arms are going to look different as I just mixed paint in my pallet last night while watching Scanners on Film4 and forgot to paint them!
  6. Recently bought the Forward Assault Group set. I am awaiting the photoetch for the Jackal so made a start on some crew and troops. Wip on troops, an attempt at MTP camo.
  7. Almost ready for inspection. Fubar'd the canopy so currently trying to strip pledge and paint. No cvr7 pods as oob build other than odd bits of wire to replace missing bits of aerials.
  8. Quick update, took a few photos before putting second coat on. Thanks to Airfix sending my replacement clear sprue for HAR GR1 (Pics up soon), used the two beacon lights to create the left and right navigations lights. I'm, hoping to have captured the slightly mottled look of paintwork I've seen in some walkarounds. Time will tell!
  9. Great job with the Scooters! I've just built one, now currently tearing my hair cos of the ****** refuelling probe. All finished and just about to weather and, it bloody snaps clean off at about half way down. Great kit to put together otherwise though
  10. Random annoyances with the kit so far. Easy snap fine pieces; i.e. the handles and especially the skinny framework of the evil cannon and the bits that go on the front landing gear. Evil seam lines and the flash. Oh my god the flash! Also the instructions in some places are real head scratchers. especially the evil cannon assembly. needed for that! Model is now fully painted in base colour and under a box while I wait for gloss coat to dry. Drying to decide how to weather it. Use oil paints or pastels. It will be my first foray into oils so don't want to ruin it! Looking forward to the decal-ling
  11. All masked up and undercoated with Hycote White Primer (half the price of Halfords and alledgedly the same stuff!) Old settee in background, models resting on the empty box from the new painting, errr... I mean coffee table!
  12. Made a decision that 1/72 will always be wheels up and 1/48 will be 50/50 wheels up/wheels down.
  13. Nearly ruined this with a an acrylic wash over acrylic paint (a mistake made on my HAR GR1 but I decided older engines and fuel were dirtier in them days ). Brush in wrong part of pallette! Supposed to be a sludge wash made with weathering powder, water and dish soap. was painted with a mix of Humbrol, Vallejo and Revell paints, has Pavla resin tail bit and ECM. This is the third kit I've finished. Have the Harrier GR1 too but awaiting replacement canopy. I Still getting the hang of this photography lark too! This one clearly shows where I had to touch up after the wash epic fail. However using Mk1 eyeball under natural light it isn't quite as obvious.
  14. Straight up OOB build. Have had to create some handles (no photo yet) using wire due to snapping while removing from the sprue. Painted up for now (spot the slip up!) Cockpit and pilots. HUD look better than in photo as have had extra coats of paint. Waiting for the armoured screen to finish curing it's Pledge-klear coat. I've learned that Humbrol Clear isn't the best for dipping canopies in my 1/72 Harrier and BAe Hawk efforts, completed pictures posted later. Since finishing a BSG Viper MkII, this is the 6th model started this year! Awaiting 1/48 EF2000 twin seater, 1/72 Skyhawk and 1/72 WiF Comanche needing a wash.
  15. Yeah I wonder why they never really explained that. Also I struggle to recall them actually showing the fork on the tail fin actually shooting!
  16. Finally got hold of a decent camera and present my first model in 15 years! A heavily weathered and battle scarred Viper MkII I noticed the other day that the tail number belongs to "Husker" as it's the one on the Viper presented to Commander Adama in the mini series. You'll notice a decal missing from the base. A recurring theme in the models I'm finishing off at the moment. Les and decals don't get on well!
  17. After my Viper MkII build started work on Harrier GR1 and GR9. GR9 halted due to awaiting some PE and resin parts, so proceed onwards with GR1. All is nearly done, so goes to give the rear canopy a final dip in Humbrol Clear and it goes frosty Tried to fix that usinng info on Humbrol's Facebook page (i.e. rebrushing and heat drying etc) didn't work. Went to go down the hot soapy water and toothbrush route, and snapped the canopy in two. Bah!!! Have emailed Airfix re parts, so have started my 1/72 Airfix A4B to tide me over Awaiting the postie with a Itareli Comanche and airfix Hawk T1, so at least I'll keep busy. Might make a bit of a start on the 1/48 Apache! Les
  18. Thanks for all the positive feedback folks Need to get a pic up in the completed section, trying to get hold of a better camera, as I've finished the base. SeanM I haven't got the MkVII yet, it's on my things to do list though. From Battlestar I'm wanting to build a pristine MkII, weathered MkVII and a MkVII in the MkII colour scheme. Building/painting 1/72 Airfix Harriers at the minute.
  19. Picture taken while weathering and adding battle damage as Starbuck stares off to the side. Cockpit dipped in Humbrol Clear a couple of times before masking and painting. This is the point I realised I misaligned the nose decal! It might not be clear enough but I also drilled the ends of the cannons out before they were primed and painted. Also in the background is the Airfix P51 I bought from Aldi to practice my mistakes on first Shot of the Viper after last coat of Purity Seal, only the base to finish (P51 made it into the shot again):
  20. Oops hit post instead of preview! Viper painted white with Revell Aqua Colour before I painted the engine parts etc: Engine nozzles:
  21. Hi all just embarking on my first model building in approx 15 years. Got it as a Christmas gift from the Mrs as I'd mentioned I felt the need to build and paint something! So Viper MkII! I didn't take all the pics I wanted as I went, because I was hooked again I'd built most of it when I remembered I was going to do a wip. Here goes, cockpit before decals and detailing (first shot took with wife's iPhone 4, the rest with an ancient SE W810i as broke my phone Xmas day) after decals and fitted in the model:
