  1. Thanks matt! I will try get a better camera for some nicer photos. I guess I will try pin wash and weathering instead of colour modulation. I just say people doing it on tanks and thought why not on the ship haha.
  2. is 1:350 considered a small scale? The ship is huge!
  3. this is actually my first model, i would love to do a hood next but its quite expensive and i don't want to mess it up, so I'm doing a bismark first. As for colour modulation, most youtube vids are about tanks and others, can't find any ship videos. Do those work as well?
  4. Here is the diagonal stripes spray painted on! Next is the deck and the guns. I heard about colour modulation. Anyone got tutorials of it?
  5. After a great new years and a busy week its back yo modelling! Hope everyone had a great new years. It was a hard task to mask the vinyls as i do not want to use the stickers. I masked the wave marks and spray painted it. Now alls left are the diagonal lines. need to measure the right so it is at the right place. Masking wave:
  6. Maybe I will just find a nice piece of wood and DIY it into a stand. Most likely the ship will just sit on top of it so i don't have to drill holes on the base of the ship.
  7. Is that for custom bases? as I don't see any fittings for the stock stand included in the kit. Do you know where I can get custom stands made?
  8. Thanks for the techniques mentioned above!! the toothpick trick worked so well, i did not get any bleeds. The only trouble was at first i masked the waterline too thin. Had to do it again. The only thing I forgot to do is to sand down the line the red hull and then grey base had. I had to use magazine paper to mask the larger parts of the hull. is there a better technique for this? because I get some leakage and have a few black sprays on the red hull.. Also need a way to create masks for the white decals. Hull with waterline added:
  9. Thanks all for the comments. They are very motivating. Are there any tricks to mask properly around the curve (especially the bow and stern)?
  10. After experimenting so many times with the airbrush, I have finally got the hang of it. First I got the mix too thin and had droplets. Then it was too dry with high PSI and get threads. Here are some pics of the hull airbrushed. Need to add the waterline.
  11. Nope, not in engineering. I'm in the design industry though Just a side hobby to relieve some of the stress building up.
  12. Thanks for the advise! guess I can start gluing things then wash. The airbrush hose is still stuck in the mail. so i decided to move on with the build making the components readying for painting. Here is one of the airplanes. Did not realise how small it was! Putting together the turrets
  13. Thanks Anthony, I have bought the vallejo primer paint. Is it ok to wash the model when I have glued some parts together already? For instance the hull, I have already glued the halves together. Should I wash that? Will the glue come off? I use the revell contacta glue.
  14. Thats some technique right there! I will do that for future joins. hopefully everything will fit together nicely. I heard some people needs to wash the parts with warm water and washing liquid. Is this a necessary process?
  15. Thanks for the kind words! Yes I did check the instructions and the lines are to line up with the base. Of course I don't expect members to guide me step by step and stay on call 24/7 as stated above. But some general advice or tips would be useful. I did enjoy the process though and will be posting more updates. Need to wait for the airbrush hose to get delivered.
