Takom 1/144 Lankreuzer P1000 and Maus kit
Farnarkle replied to Farnarkle's topic in Work in Progress - Armour
The Maus' have their pain on and the landkreuzer has its preshade finalised. The ambush scheme was supposed to be a two colour airbrush job like the maus on the left of the pics but after 4 goes that failed miserably I gave up - resprayed with rattle can Tamiya dark yellow and manually added the ambush scheme. so far so good- 21 replies

Takom 1/144 Lankreuzer P1000 and Maus kit
Farnarkle replied to Farnarkle's topic in Work in Progress - Armour
A quick update -- construction is now just about done. Replaced AAA gun barrels with Master model 1/700 sea master series metal barrels. They are German 105's (SM-700-003) and the slightly longer US navy modern 5 inchers/127mm (SM-700-021) I have an old Lion Roar 15in main gun (that was originally intended for the trumpeter 1/700 scale Bismarck that will replace the bow 128mm. The engineering of the Master model guns just has to be seen to be believed. They are so fine and make perfect 20mm/37mm substitutes. Some poor construction work on the running gear came back to bite me. With a slight torsion of an idler meant that there was a slight offset in the tracks. at least the dodgy fix up is hidden under the skirts (no peeking now). There were at least 4 or 5 left over individual links which is good as it does give you a bit of flexibility. She now has primer and a coat of rattle can grey ready for the really fun bit!- 21 replies

Hello All, This kit appeared to make some waves when it was announced. Anyways here is some progress on it. The build itself so far is going smoothly and Takom gets plenty of gold stars as the engineering is pretty good with a logical parts breakdown. The kit is moulded in dark yellow and a fetching hull red. The kit comes with 2x 1/144 scale Pz VIII Maus. Fit is good and it would help if I wasn't quite so ham fisted but we live and learn. Here is the hull compared with a 1/72 scale nashorn!!! Maus Not much filler needed, mostly my fault and they look a treat. Landkreuzer Running gear AA installations The Main guns in their turret! Upper deck fit out That's where we are at for the moment. Ian

Tamiya 1/48 Dornier 335 "Whiffer" Nachtjager late 1945
Farnarkle replied to Farnarkle's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Hi Shan, Gunze acrylics RLM 75 thinned with lacquer thinners and lightened with a little gunze acrylic off white as the base coat. The squiggle pattern is gunze acrylic RLM 76 thinned with lacquer thinners to a rough skim milk consistency. This was shot through an Aztek A470 tan tip airbrush at about 12PSI. I admit it took 4 goes to get it right so there was some colourful language each time I got splodges, spider legs, or a little dose of the runs. I really wanted to push the envelope of what a) I could do and b, what the aztek airbrush is theoretically capable of doing. The pattern is just a lot of tight "s" and figure 8's. Here are a couple of close ups. Hope this helps - Ian -
Hi all, Normally I build in 1/144 scale so doing something in 48 scale is like normal people doing something in 1/16th!!!! This one is OOB with the exception of an OWL SN2 resin radar aerial set for the Ju88. - It's a 'what if' - if they had of gone into service they would have troubled even the mighty mossie..... Thanks for looking .... she is just about done. Happy Modelling all, Ian

Horst Carganico's aircraft as interpreted by Kagero's Topcolours. Completed this a couple of months ago. OOB - Thanks for looking, Happy modelling all. Ian

Hello All, WIP of the interior prior to permanently closing up. Will be converted to a Afrika Korps 250/10 so don't take too much notice of the Panzer grey finish as it will be a base for some hairspray technique 'action' .... (fingers crossed on that)! Happy Modelling, Ian

Hi Mick, I have to think about this. Tracks were preshaded in rattle can black then airbrushed Tamiya metallic gray XF-56. Then a light coat of Tamiya XF 10 flat brown was mist sprayed over the flat bits but not the "teeth". I think I gave them a light wash in some games workshop brown ink. The tracks on the sides of the hull followed the same formula as previously described and were then washed with Tamiya weathering compact pigments "rust" the compact was brushed on with the addition of water to the compact to make it 'paintable' rather than rubbed on with a brush or their sponge applicator. Essentially if you use either a metallic grey or gunze aquaeous burnt iron H-76 base and add browns over the top thinly you should get a reasonable result. The tracks themselves were finished off by making a slurry with rubbing alcohol mixed with MiG pigments Russian Earth. A 6B pencil was used to add a metallic sheen to exposed cleats. There are some track weathering tutorials on the net that will provide some inspiration. Happy Modelling! Ian

Thanks gents for the comments so far, It is really appreciated. Mark This really was a bit of an experiment for me. I don't know how many times I have been looking at forums and videos over the past month to help me get to the next stage in painting and weathering. So I guess credit to people like Mike Rinaldi who work I have tried to imitate. I do have a Tamiya 48 scale SdKfz 250/3 half track that I can finish in Pz gray. So another challenge lies ahead - But that is why we do it....

Hello All, This was a bit of an experiment and I usually do the occasional 72 scale armour kit. This is the third attempt at a larger scale. I would describe the build pretty good but the paint and weathering was a lot of blundering around in the dark. The scheme is from the Kagero mini top colours volume on the 'Panther in attack and defence'. Happy Modelling all Ian

1/72 Dragon LVT(A)-4 Iwo Jima
Farnarkle replied to Farnarkle's topic in Ready for Inspection - Armour
Thanks Gents, appreciate the comments. Dan, speaking of 35 scale, I do have a DML Panzer IVE as well as a command panzer 1 and Sdkfz 250/5 that I want to convert to a 250/10. Haven't felt brave enough to tackle it yet...I think the last 35 scale kit I built was in 1980! -
Great Kit - went together quite easily and happy with the results. smiles all round! Somewhere along the line I am going to have to try to do something in 48 or 35 scale. Happy modelling all Ian

Hello All, This is an "almost there" couple of pics for you guys and gals. The kit itself is great in my opinion, low part count, well detailed and plenty for the scratch builders and super detailers. The vehicle will be depicted on Iwo Jima. Need to get busy with the mig pigments to try to simulate the volcanic beach sand...... Happy modelling all, Ian

Hello All, My interpretation of 79 Sqn RAAF Spitfire VIII (yes I know the kit is really a Mk IXe). Fun to build and fun to paint -- happy days! Thanks for looking and thanks for commenting. Good Modelling all Ian

Hello All, First AFV post on this site! Here is my interpretation of a Pz IVH from the II./Pz.Rgt.16 116Pz division in August 44. Inspiration came from the Kagero mini top colours book. Great book in my opinion lots of nice choices and decals as well in all three major scales. Thanks for looking, Happy Modelling! Ian
