  1. Hello All, This is the Trumpeter 1/48 DH Hornet F3. OOB with the exception of Barracuda Wheels I won't dwell what Trumpeter did wrong as enough has been said already. Sort of looks like a DH Hornet anyways. Given that I build almost exclusively in 1/144 scale with the odd exception it was a real challenge to do a "supersized" kit. Pics via Iphone 4 so the quality is sort of rubbish, apologies... don't own a decent camera anymore. Oh, by the way, Xtradecals were also used on the kit depicting a 64 Sqdn Aircraft during exercise dagger 1948 I think. Thanks for looking and happy modelling all. Happy to answer questions. Ian
  2. Hello Jean, You may well be right about the etch, Personally I don't mind it in smaller scales. I have seen some good work done with clear plastic discs that have been cut from old CD cases but I don't have the gear to do it. I guess I could try clear sheets of acetate, but I'm not sure how to get the blur effect. Must do some further research. Thanks for the comment though. It is always good to get constructive feedback in order to improve my skills. Ian
  3. Hello Duncan, Thanks for commenting.... The airframe was primed with Tamiya fine primer. then the airframe was preshaded in navy blue. The base coats of Gunze Acrylics were misted on., particularly the RLM80. The blue undersides had a little lightening on the moveable surfaces (ailerons and flaps). As I had a white base some areas are a little lighter on the upper surfaces. Then I applied a thin coat of H316 white, this was misted on and built up. After gloss coasting a significant amount of the white seemed to disappear. I built it up with a combination of Abteilung 502 oils (white). the mottle effect is the oil paint diluted with a little white spirit and applied with a small rounded good quality brush. The final task was a wash with a very pale blue grey. The MiG products winter camouflage transformation set is very handy. If you want a bit more info and some WIP pics there is a build log on http://www.kampfgruppe144.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.PHP?f=37&t=4577&start=10 Ian
  4. Hello All, Sweet Model Co 1/144 109F in its winter camouflage boxing. This aircraft depicts Hans Eckhardt-Bob's aircraft winter 41-42 in the Leningrad area. Finished with Gunze Acrylics, Oils and an Enamel wash. Ozmods Pilot, Propblur etch propeller blade. Apart from that it's OOB. It is for a group build over on kampfgruppe144. Drop by if you want to see some 1/144 stuff. Thanks for looking. Ian
  5. Hi Thud, I am part of the Kampfgruppe 144 group. It has a BBS board, feel free to join, everyone is really helpful. Ian
  6. Hello all, A Zvesda wargaming 1/144 scale kit to play around with some techniques as part of a group build on another website specialising in 1/144 scale models. Comments welcome and questions answered.... Happy Modelling all Ian
  7. Hi Tipper, it's the Hasegawa kit.....it might be difficult to find at the moment.
  8. Hello All, This one has had a very tortuous existence, nearly binned twice, consigned to the shelf of doom twice. Had all sorts of issues with this particular build. Fit issues with a step in the nose. paint issues with paint de-naturing in the airbrush so that dark earth evolved a strange pinkish hue..... grrrrrrr. It was only due to me needing to familiarise and experiment with a new airbrush that she survived and eventually completed. Thanks for looking and happy modelling Ian
  9. Hello All, Minicraft 1/144 B-26 Marauder with print scale decals. Thought I'd have a go at the hairspray technique for the chipping of the paint. Seen some pics of these aircraft looking really weather beaten. Happy to answer questions if need be and thanks for looking. Welcome to 2016! Happy Modelling Ian
  10. Thanks Gents for the comments, Hope everyone got some sweet plastic for Christmas Ian
  11. Hello All, not sure if I posted this. Completed it earlier in the year - a Tamiya 335 kit with some owl resin Ju88 SN2 aerials. A bit of a what if night fighter. The build is not great but I am happy with the finish. Thanks for looking and have a great Christmas, Ian
  12. a base of PVA glue and water was mixed and painted on to the surfaces where the mud was to stick and MiG pigments are slurried in a little water and added, I used a couple of types (light mud, dark mud and European earth. Its pretty simple and there is a good tutorial on the web.
  13. It was a good build. Nothing too complex or too tough.
  14. Hello All, Dragon's Jagdpanzer IV(L70) Gunze paints, oils, artists acrylics, games workshop paints and inks and MiG Pigments + a homemade brew of filters from a 30year old + collection of Humbrol enamels. This is a first go at serious mud making for the running gear. Happy modelling all - some really nice work on display Ian
  15. Hello Jean, yes it is a bit complex but it is blending some armour modelling techniques for weathering into the aircraft sphere of influence. Seems to work OK for me Ian
  16. Hey Doc, no they were Gunze Acrylics Dark Earth and Mid Stone, both were sprayed with an Aztek A470 tan tip airbrush thinned with lacquer thinners at about 15PSI then after they were dry used the same base colours but lightened with a little gunze off white and thinned with Lacquer thinners. The Azure blue was a custom mix of gunze cobalt blue approximately 10% and 90% gunze intermediate blue. This was also given the fading treatment with a little off white added. Upper surfaces once sealed under gloss coat of future decaled and sealed under another layer of future was panel line washed with artists sepia acrylic paint mixed with a little detergent. excess removed with a damp cloth. then sealed under testors dullcoat. upper surfaces were then filtered with a 95% white spirit 5% humbrol tan enamel. Under surfaces were given the same treatment with a humbrol enamel sky blue. once all dry sealed again with dullcoat. Hope that helps Ian
  17. Hello All, Airfix's P-40B in 1/72 scale finished as Clive Caldwells mount. Happy modelling all Ian
  18. Hello Tony, - It has been freehand airbrushed with an Aztek A470 with tan tip. The Green is (if I remember) Tamiya XF 81. Let me know if you want to know more. Regards, Ian
  19. Hi All, Simple kit - went together well. Thanks for looking Ian
  20. For all of you chaps following along - she is finished and there are pics on the ready for inspection thread. Cheers Ian
  21. The beast is done.... This is as big as a 1/48 scale Panther. The Maus' have lagged behind but will be finished at some stage. How would I describe this build? Well, really enjoyable, relatively stress free and you can really go mad with the camo. Two more in the stash .... winter camo one and an ambush scheme mind you, I think this would have been a little difficult to hide these beasties. I suspect, for those of you old enough to remember Steve Jackson Games "ogre" this might be where he got the idea of a huge cybernetic tank stomping round the countryside. Thanks for looking, I have a complete build log over on Kampfgruppe 144 and here on Britmodeller. Thanks for looking, questions answered if possible, Happy Modelling all Ian
  22. This will probably be the last update prior to posing in the ready for inspection section. Some pigments for dust dirt etc... not finished but well on the way then its the railings and she will be done. Happy modelling all Ian
  23. Hello Lads, The chipping was done with a fine brush applying lighter shades of paint in random marks and scratches. The lightest sky colour was chipped with a combination of Tamiya Sky XF21 and White XF2, the lightest green, Gunze H303 Green (FS34102) and the darker green Gunze H312 (FS34227). The Maus' were chipped in Tamiya XF57 buff. a cocktail stick with a pointy end will do just as good. Made up an oils pallet on some cardboard. some are MiG Abteilung 502. - Buff, olive green, shadow brown and brown wash. The rest are Art Spectrum (a local aussie brand) - burnt umber, lemon yellow, Australian grey, Australian yellow green, Naples yellow, yellow ochre, raw umber and spectrum light green. Apologies for the poor pic but you get the idea oil dot application - small dots of these colours are dotted all over the panel(s) and a damp (white spirit) flat brush is dragged down in the direction of gravity. There are some good tutorials on the net. This is a good example of the technique. http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_su ... ageIndex=1 The completed results with some added rusting using 3 shades of brown oils in increasing darkness I have done some more oil work on the bottom of the skirt but have not got pics of it yet. Happy modelling Ian
  24. Hello All, Decals on pinwashed, chipped and filtered and commencing the oil dot technique. Happy modelling all. Ian
  25. Righto lads, we have paint on the beast. I eventually decided on a splinter like scheme. Upon reflection should have looked at some of the Kreigsmarine schemes. That's OK as I have a couple more in the stash Next up sealing decaling and then let the fun commence......weathering the beast.
