1:48 Fairchild Republic Thunderbolt II - Warthog by GWH
Porkbits replied to Greg B's topic in The Rumourmonger
This fellow on Hyperscale already got his (think he lives in Midwestern US): LINK -
FYI, Saraf now available at Spruebrothers here in the States for US $89.00. So...probably not exciting for anyone not in the States, which is probably most users on this site.

1:48 Fairchild Republic Thunderbolt II - Warthog by GWH

Too late! I already built my Academy kit months ago. Guess I'll throw it away? -
Got mine today in the States. Soooooo...I guess that's exciting for........me. And pretty much no one else. Good night!

I'm reaching the finish line and it's a great kit, with some caveats: 1. BUY AFTERMARKET DECALS. Academy's are the thinnest I've ever encountered and fold/wrinkle by some kind of quantum physics I don't understand. If you do you use them, they need to be wetted for only a few seconds. 2. Instructions are very small print size and are hard to read (esp if you're older). Had to use magnifying app on my iPad to zoom them in many occasions. 3. A couple of the wing walk decals are mislabeled in the instructions. 4. If the shallow depth of the intakes bothers you, get aftermarket replacements. I used the Wolfpack set, which are awesome. 5. Don't follow the assembly order in the instructions. Look ahead and plan a more logical sequence that works for you and your abilities. That is all. 🙂

Please do! With bad instructions to deal with, I think any kind of help or build aid would be appreciated, especially considering the complexity of this kit. 😶

Thanks! That engine set looks awesome. Yeah, no idea if it would fit the Academy kit, but seems that the engine pods/nacelles on the Academy kit are bigger than the HB. Which is more accurate, I don't know.

FYI before this thread is obsolete/not needed/closed - got the airframe together by NOT following the instructions. 🙂 Fit is good if you take your time and test fit. Also used the Wolfpack intake set (available in the States), which is really nice. Makes a big difference. Whether or not that difference is worth the money is up to the individual. Hope everyone enjoys their builds!

Thanks for the heads up. I actually caught that potential problem with A68 so trimmed back some of my piping "handwork." Everything should fit now.

Followed! Thanks for heads up. Disappointing that the instructions seem to be such a mess. 😞 Guess I was spoiled by my last build (ZM F-4J). First time I thought the instructions actually OVER explained things lol.

Yeah, that nose landing gear and bay assembly was pure misery. 😞 So fiddly I waited until after assembly to paint everything. I'm not sure what I'm missing, but if you attach the nose gear support using the provided hole in the wheel well structure, the gear is slanted forward at a ridiculous angle. So I cut the locating pin off the support and glued the support further back. Not sure what I'm missing or if my brain has suddenly leaked out of my head and I can't read instructions but......Hoping that doesn't affect assembly down the road. Anyway, last rant! I won't turn this into a build log lol.

Ok, good to know, thanks. Guess I can just say I took some artistic license with that assembly.

Ooooh crap lol. So I prob not short shot…I just didn’t understand the instructions. Sigh. In my defense, the print and diagrams are small and hard to see at my age. 😞

So this should add fuel to the fire. 🙂 Started last night and ran into issues with first assembly (nose gear well). Part A66 was short-shot so had to do quick-and-dirty mod with styrene (see photo). Also, had to shave a couple of tabs to get things to fit. Hope this isn't indicative of rest of build. 😮

I bought the Phase Hangar replacement engine/inlet set, US $26, and they look good. I don't see the need to get upgraded seats, as no one will see them, same with avionics bay set (not going to build mine with open panels). I have no doubt GWH will get these details right, which is why I'll buy that kit, too. 😀 I just love that the A-10 is finally getting some love.

Finally went on sale here in the States (Sprue Brothers). Snagged one. 🙂

Thanks for reviews! Really looking forward to building it (should arrive next week, I also ordered the Phase Hangar replacement inlet/fan replacement set). In any event, Academy has really stepped up their game--the AH-1Z Viper was a great kit--so Warthog should be good, too. 👍

Hm. Nothing available here in the States from the online shops I usually buy from (Sprue Bros, Scale Hobbyist, etc). Guess not quite here yet.

Nice sets (fact aside that they shouldn't be needed to begin with). Which begs the question....is the actual kit available yet? Haven't seen anything online....

Thanks for heads up! Ordered for US delivery. This will be an immediate build for me. 🙂 And, no, I don't have room for another 1/35 helicopter but......
