  1. The RPF Costume and Prop maker Community, google that and it should take you where you need to go.
  2. Hi, Most of the paint experts that I know have always used their eyes and trial and error and some even the munsell colour system that some artists use. I inderstand your relectance to mix so you could just try to match the colours that you do have with what you need with off the shelf colours that you have/ can get.. Like I said a base colour of Tamiya insignia (LP-35) white is a very good match for the overall colour of your X-wing and something like Light Ghost Gray LP-37 for your tie would be as close without having to mix or spend loads, 10ml bottles at about £2.20 each. You could also look at the RPF forum for suggestions regarding suitable analogues for your paint requirements. For my X-wings I painted them Matt black (XF-1)or a black primer and mist coated Tamiya Matt (XF-2) white over them, which was the way ILM approached painting X-wings back in the 70's( but with railroad enamels). Hope that helps Regards.
  3. Hi treker_ed, You could try looking at Archive X paints which are acrylic paints and have been developed to be as close as is possible to the original colours (Floquil enamels) used on the filming models. You can buy the colours that you need without having to mix them yourself and comprehensive bespoke bundles for different ships are available; you bcan have a look at those and choose the ones that you want rather than buying complete bundles (expensive). They are about as close as you will get without mixing but come at a price above Gunze/Tamiya etc paints. If you have to use Tamiya paints, Insignia White is a good base for the X-wing and just add the other colours on top. Tie fighters were different greys for the different films. You may just have to try as suggested in the post above this to try to match a close colour like Tamiya Ts-32 haze gray which some are using. Regards, Richard.
  4. Thank you for your reply, your work looks very convincing when compared to photos of the "Hero" miniature. I am aware of the risks of using white spirit on Bandai plastic and have found that, in at least small amounts, Mig productions enamel thinner P705 to be better than most. The real damage seems to be when the thinners/white spirit seeps between highly stressed joints and attacks the bare plastic. Regards Richard.
  5. A very good rendition of Red 5 I think? If I may ask, how did you recreate the dark scarring on the left wing; was this painted ? A great job, looks superb. Richard.
  6. Hi James, I have been building this model on and off, much as you have for even longer than 11 years ha ha😆. Yours is already looking good and you could detail it further if you wish. Some areas can be enhanced with both or either of the Gold Medal Models photoetch for ship, elevators, airwing or the White Ensign set for ship and airwing. Both sets drastically improve the detail level and I believe are still available. Some of the aircraft could be replaced with the Trumpeter versions which generally look better IMHO and you could add CH-46 Sea Knights too. Veteran Models do nice and better scaled CIWS Phalanx and much better Mk.9 Sea Sparrow launchers if you so desire. Also Modern US Navy AN / SPS radar set and SLQ-32 ECM and SRBOC chaff dispenser sets. Star fighter Decals do great 1-350 decals for several of the different colour schemes and Airwings which flew from her. Lastly, for now anyway, if you don't have them " The USS Enterprise (CVN-65) in detail & scale - D&S Vol. 39", Bert Kinzey and "Airwing Enterprise", Michael O'Leary, both well worth having if you can get hold of them. Hope that helps, I will try to add any further help as I recall any possibly? relevant info. Oh yes, Black Dog do 1/350 Deck Tractors accessories set which might interest you. Regards, Richard.
  7. Can't add much to what has been already said, very nicely built and displayed; anyone would be thrilled to receive such a model. Well done Guy. Richard.
  8. Agreed, a beautiful model, time well spent with the refined detailing. Réale was a galley and the personal property of the king I believe. Richard.
  9. Looks to be a nice model from Revell and you're doing it justice as usual Andy. Cheers, Richard.
  10. Superb, the cloak detail pattern is beautifully done; how do you approach this kind of technique, it looks very complex? Cheers, Richard
  11. Hi Timmas, Thank you so much for the decals you made for me, they are just what I needed. I haven't been model making for what seems like an age but, will hopefully be back to it soon. Thanks again. Kindest Regards, Richard.
  12. Hi, As far as detailing/photo etch there is the dedicated Paragrafix set( I have this, it's superb) but mostly concerns the cockpit. You would also want to get some flat panel LEDs to back the photo etch(get these from "Age of plastic", just google that with "Millennium Falcon" and it will take you to his site, loads of great info there too and links to his 3d printed parts.) Green Strawberry also do dedicated sets for this model, may be worth a look at. Many people use the Tamiya fine surface primer(grey) to prime the model and then lay a base coat down of Tamiya AS-20 insignia white (rattlecan) or you can use LP-35 insignia white(Lacquer paint range) or a mixture of Tamiya flatt white XF-2 and Deck tan XF-55. If you wanted to really push the boat out in terms of paint you could go the route of "screen accurate" paints by Archive X enamel based paints ( Pretty expensive, I have some and will be using these with Tamiya and Gunze Sangyo). There are dedicated groups on FB for the PG falcon and the Archive X paints, some helpful people and links there also. Hope this helps a little. Cheers, Richard
  13. Hi, I have bought some of Tamiya LP-23 flat clear lacquer paint and it looks quite opaque/yellow/brown compared to other clears that I have( including Dull cote, also lacquer based). Is this normal for this type of clear? Thanks, Richard.
  14. Hello Timmas, Is this offer still available? I would like some decals for a 1/350 CH-46 Sea Knight if possible (Naval version). Are you able to help? Thank you. Richard.
  15. Beautiful work Andy. I have an advanced Tie fighter to build and will use your superb rendition as an inspirational guide. Regards Richard
  16. Thanks gamblor916, just what I needed to know.
  17. Hi, I have been looking for good reference material for Bandai's 1/72 model and the above mentioned book has been suggested. My main concern is that it's in Japanese and that there does not seem to be an Enlish version available?. Is it still worth trying to get hold of and can anyone offer advice on other sources? Thank you. Richard.
  18. Hi Andy, That looks fantastic, looks much larger than it is in reality. Beautifully painted as usual. You mentioned using a glaze medium, is this Vallejo 70.596 and do you thin it further with water? Regards Richard
  19. Hi Seadog, A charming little boat, beautiful. I have only just found this build and thought I would comment. Great work. Regards Richard
  20. Looks great Danny, I particularly like the starfield diorama with the saturn like planet. Good job. Regards Richard
  21. Hi Andy, Hope that you enjoy your time at the forum, they are a good bunch here with much knowledge and kind advice on all sorts of subjects. Regards Richard
  22. That's a very nice collection of droids and the new addition looks superb even if not "accurate" as you say (few would know that). Really top class build and paintwork as usual Andy. Regards Richard
  23. It looks good already Andy. I am tempted to go the "no primer" route myself having had such poor results with Alclad recently. Do laquer paints adhere better than standard Tamiya or gunze?. I may give it a go but it seems strange not to primer, though I never used to back in the day. Wishing you all a Happy New Year. Cheers Richard
  24. It seems that it does in fact come with the P.E. and LEDs to answer my own question. I noticed on the last link that the pre-order is through Revell? The postage is not included and is listed as from £6
  25. Does anyone know if this version of the PG falcon will include the photo-etch and the LED lighting?
