  1. I would prefer Airfix produce some weapons sets like the Hasegawa 1/72 US modern weapons sets, only for WWII - now that would be much cheaper than buying 3 bomber resupply sets or a B-29 from Academy for the bombs
  2. Now for some humour - imagine Airfix were given access to an F-35B, and Airfix bring along their trusty LIDAR, then back at the office they find the LIDAR did not capture anything except the tyres due to the uber stealth technology! or even funnier - the LIDAR worked perfectly and the whole aircraft was measured / mapped - in which case the stealth technology was useless
  3. Not sure I like the Airfix trend of not supplying a bomb load in bomber kits... Lancaster Heinkel 111 Whitley all SANS bomb load, to their credit, decent/or partial load jobs in Do17Z and Blenheim kits but what are you supposed to do if you want to build say a Heinkel 111 buy the Dornier 17Z kit just for the bomb load? Even the Lanc you have to buy 3 bomber resupply sets if you want to fill it up with 18 x 500 pounders, hands up who likes dealing with the fiddly Eduard resin aftermarket sets which require razor saws and are extremely fragile and sniffing super glue (not me)! Bring back the bomb load Airfix! I hope the B-17G will not be empty, Revell if I remember correct at least supplied a paltry few bombs... Even the old tools were patchy - no bombs in the old tool Airfix B-17G (If I remember correctly no bomb bay either) but a full load and bomb bay in the Airfix Marauder! Remember the old Airfix Marauder kit had full load
  4. Do Airfix provide any bombs in this new kit of the Heinkel?
  5. Something seriously wrong with the starboard wing and tail plane depictions on the banking Lightning XM176 in the box art - does not look right to me at least!
  6. Uncle Dick's Tip - wait for Mr AIRFIX to do a 1/72 jobbie using their LIDAR thingie! Should not have to wait longer than say 2 years! Save all the fuss monkeying about with conversions...
  7. No - I do believe the USAF ceased Fulton recovery operations some time ago!
  8. Yes we do make models of war machines that have killed lots of people, my view is that we learn about history by doing so!
  9. Send your suggestions into Airfix for 70th Anniversary VP bundles! VP day is 15th August! Cannot take advantage of savings myself as postage costs to Pacific are outrageous
  10. Thanks Dave, Nice picture - I would guess single fin in linked picture, other side of fuel tank is obscured... Can you point me in the direction of images of Aero 1Ds 300 (US) Gallons on AV-8A/C without fins? Thanks
  11. Thanks Andre - any ideas on the orientation of the fin or fins (were they single fin, twin or triple fin configured? or were they without fins? as it is too hard to make out in the photo) when mounted on the AV-8A/C, use on AV-8B suggests single fin pointing away from fuselage, but never assume anything...
  12. Next question regarding AV-8A/Cs The fuel tanks in this picture https://flic.kr/p/qDwt62 appear to me to be 300 Gallon fuel tanks as used by Skyhawks, Intruders and the AV-8B... or possibly even the 400 gallon variety? Am I correct or are they some other model?
  13. Thanks for that, ALE-37 it is (still not available from the aftermarket lot ) And chaps you are correct it looks like it is an AV-8A , saw the slime formation lights/strips and instantly thought it was AV-8C (my mistake) decals for formation slime/strip lights provided by Airfix for the Spanish jet
  14. Interestingly, the 3 parts (far left of pic 3) on sprue E - the refuelling probe and centreline hard point do not feature in the Airfix construction plans of the kit nor does the new tail fin with RWR (they are strangely totally omitted from the plans!) Edit: tail fin with RWR in the new sprue is exactly same height as that on the Airfix new tool Harrier GR.1 (which is also in the kit) While I am on the topic of centreline hard point can anyone identify the centreline store on this AV-8C
  15. Right Lads, finally put my mittens on a few of these new tool Airfix AV-8As, here be some quick pics of additional sprues and new decals (apologies if someone has already posted pics elsewhere as I have not seen them) personally would like to have seen some extra ordnance (Mk 82 bombs + Napalm and an extra USMC squadron but seeing these can be had aftermarket not really a big issue!)
  16. A strong case for Airfix to issue a new tool Mig-15 this time using their LIDAR! But since Eduard do such a nice job - best to leave Airfix to come out with something that has not been done well Mig-17 or 19; I will always settle for a new tool Westland Wasp!
  17. Yes, I could not hold off any longer, just emailed Airfix to produce in 1/72 suggestions: 1. Buccaneer 2. Westland Wasp (no one does this and it will go well with Falklands era kits already produced) 3. aerospatialle AS350B Squirrel (no one does this) 4. Rapier Surface to Air Missile System 5. new tool edition of their classic Bloodhound SAM
  18. Now this topic brings back memories of the old Airfix kit, how about it Airfix a new tool Hound + Rover with launcher and trailer, and while we are at it how about a Rapier to go with those Harriers and Argie Skyhawks!
  19. Thanks for that, had me stumped! Makes for an interesting load
  20. Came across this picture of Desert Storm period, what is the store on the F-14 closest to camera under neath fuselage its not a Sparrow Missile but looks similar to an AMRAAM - am guessing some sort of drone decoy missile???
  21. Still waiting for the Trumpy release...
  22. Clever marketing ploy - designating the new release a Series 4 whereas GR1 was Series 3, hence price change, must be more parts though?
  23. A couple of questions for those more knowledgable than me on this subject: 1. What is the store in the Airfix new tool release that looks like a big canister (shaped like a rectangular prism) of some sort fitting in bomb bay, is it an auxiliary fuel tank, or some other device/armament such as a bomb canister? 2. Did the Do 17Z carry external stores e.g. on fuselage or under the wings?
  24. So did we work out what this was????? I still cannot make it out with the new releases announced or do I need glasses? I like all the new releases, however a word of caution - at the rate Airfix are announcing new releases for each year I would think they may be tempting financial difficulty? Is it sustainable in the long term ?.... don't get me wrong we love more and more releases every year, but not at the expense of "this" manufacturer going into receivership, I know you chaps will say it is more likely that we will get into financial trouble purchasing all these new releases rather than Airfix, but I have a bad feeling about manufacturers who start churning out new releases like there is no tomorrow... (I do hope I am wrong with this one) BTW Airfix we still need a decent Westland Wasp to go with the Shack!
