  1. Voodoo Grey is supposed to be the best match for Boeing Grey. As Buzz says, opinions vary as to whether Boeing and Airbus Grey are the same colour. If you're happy to go with it, Halford Racking Grey is a very good match for Voodoo Grey. It's a fast drying enamel and is normally found with the workshop paints rather than the car colours.
  2. I imagine one or two decal makers will be firing up Corel Draw (or whatever) once the kit hits the streets. When I get my kit it will be BA Negus, not the most glamorous scheme but the one I remember best. Ray Charles issued it a couple of years ago and I bought the sheet intending it for an Airfix kit which I've never got round to starting. Both Standard and Super VC-10s are on the sheet and I hope Ray will re-issue it.
  3. Xtracolor have the current BA scheme blue in their range (X322) but it's out of stock at Hannant's. Given the small quantity of airliner-specific paint sold and the problems of sending paint through the post, I have some doubts whether we'll ever see it back again. If you're comfortable with using spray cans (or willing to learn the mysterious art of decanting) and you live in the UK, you can pop into your nearest Halfords and pick up a can of Fiat Capri Blue which is a very good match. White is white - many of us use Halfords Appliance White but plenty of other options are available. For the grey wings Xtracolor X359 Airbus Grey is the ideal answer but unfortunately it is also out of stock at Hannants. Ray Charles of 26 Decals recommends Holts HLGrey01 although I'm still using up a stock of X359 and haven't tried it yet. Halfords paints are best applied over primer and I imagine the same will apply to the Holts paint as well. I normally use Halfords own grey primer but again other options are available. HTH Dave
  4. Court Line decals for both G-BAAA and G-BAAB are already available from Ray at 26 - I used them when I built G-BAAB from the Welsh kit. Ray also has a number of other schemes including Eastern, TAP, PSA, BA (two liveries) and Air Canada. Nazca also do several liveries including Saudia, LTU and four different versions of Faucett. Authentic Airliners have just released "photo real" window decals for the Tristar. I have a set on order for retrofitting to my model of G-BAAB.
  5. Depending on the size of your model it's also worth thinking about using a piece of brass tubing around 3mm diameter as a spar. Once you have assembled the fuselage drill matching holes into the wing root on either side. If you've filled the model with foam you'll obviously have to drill right through that. Insert the brass tubing so that it protrudes about 10-15mm on either side. Check that it's level and square to the fuselage then drill corresponding holes into the resin wings, pop the wings over the protruding tube, check for alignment and dihedral and if everything is OK, stick with something strong like Araldite Rapid. The spar takes some of the weight of the wings and relieves the stress on the fuselage joint. Personally I wouldn't bother for a smallish aircraft but that was the procedure I used when I built a Welsh Models Tristar and it was very successful. For something very big (MD11 or B747) I would probably put in a second thinner spar towards the trailing edge. HTH
  6. Just to be clear, does that include freighters? I assume that freighters based on or converted from airliners are OK (Merchantman etc) but what about specialist freighters like the Argosy?
  7. Got it in one! I'm currently painting a RusAir Yak-42 which will appear in RFI once the Tulpar Air decals arrive from Russia. The Yak is so gorgeous that I bought the Tu-204/214 for the sheer pleasure of building another RusAir kit. It's just a shame that everybody will think it's an A321 I haven't decided on the livery for the Tupolev yet but Transaero using the kit decals is a strong possibility
  8. I'll certainly be in but I'm not sure what with. A Tupolev Tu-214 is possible as is a Britannia, maybe a freighter.
  9. We've made it, even if it was as a tie for the last place!
  10. Please excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between a group build and a buddy build?
  11. I happened to come across this old thread today while I was looking for something else. It all comes down to colour perception which can vary significantly between individuals but having used both Dove Grey and Racking Grey, Dove Grey is definitely too brownish to my eyes. The general consensus seems to be that the best match for Boeing Grey is Canadian Voodoo Grey FS16515. Racking Grey matches Xtracolor Voodoo Grey (X150) so closely that you can use the Xtracolor paint for brush touch-ups which is good enough for me. As for Airbus Grey, I'm still working through a stock of X359 but Ray Charles of 26 Decals recommends a paint by Holts: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234989324-airbus-grey/?hl=airbus
  12. Fantastic model Tim and thanks for the explanation of the decal-making process.
  13. Does it look like an MD-90 to me? Absolutely yes and a very good representation at that. The hard work has clearly paid off. I'm with Tim on weathering - less is usually more. Weathering airliners is easy, weathering them well is very, very difficult and something I prefer to leave to people whose skills are considerably greater than mine. Just one small suggestion. Adding the ADF fairings and the anti-collision beacon to the top of the fuselage and adding aerials all round would be worth considering - hardly any work and an easy way to make the model look a bit more "busy". Dave
  14. Definitely one of the most attractive retro schemes and you've really done it justice.
  15. Another superb build Ray, thanks for sharing. The Airfix A300 may be ancient but in the hands of a skilled builder it can produce an outstanding model as you've just demonstrated.
  16. Very impressive indeed. She'll soon be ready for RFI !
  17. Likewise. I've never paid the slightest attention to Group Builds so thanks for the heads up. Vote cast.
  18. I just noticed that PAS Decals have produced a sheet for this scheme if anyone feels brave enough to try it: http://pas-decals.com/index.php/product/view/24/673
  19. As others have said the Revell kit has "issues" but in the right hands it can be turned into a real beauty as you've shown here. Another big from me for the BraZ engines. I put them on a -600 a few months ago and the -700 I'm currently working on will get a set as well. I reckon they're unbeatable.
  20. Magnificent! The Welsh Tristar is a great kit even if it takes a while to get it all together and you've really done it proud.
  21. I agree about the finesse and ease of construction - the Tu-134 and SSJ-100 are wonders of plastic moulding. I can see me buying three or four 777s but only if Zvezda don't give us pointless gimmicks like dropped flaps. I hope the 3D images above represent the actual kit.
  22. Definitely looking the part now Ray. It's particularly interesting to see a non-airline livery on an airliner if you see what I mean! I saw the sister aircraft 16+01 ("Angie 1") at MUC a few years ago and thought it looked simple and stylish. Your model is well on the way to capturing that impression.
  23. Looks like a promising start. You've obviously invested a lot of thought and a fair amount of cash in the project and at the risk of sounding like a stuck record I would just repeat my advice about throwing together a cheap kit and using it for practice before committing yourself to the real thing.
