Hi all, I’ve had some fogging issues on canopies recently, never had it before, not CA related, I’m just wondering if it’s to do with lacquer finishes? I guess a small amount of fumes get inside through sponge masking or other areas but whatever it is, it’s not ideal! Any ideas? Thanks Guy

Yep, I’ve been racing through projects, trying to clear my bench for some Wingnut Wings kits I’ve acquired 😀 Thanks, they’re probably a bit overdone tbh, but I like the look anyway and it’s a lazy way of modelling really, saves masking! Guy -

Gisbod replied to Gisbod's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks John, I don’t mean mine, but I do agree, there’s nowhere to hide! But, obviously, there are some weathered works of art out there too.. Hi, MRP are my go to paints.. I love ‘em! Masks made by a talented friend… Guy -

Airfix’s New Big Spitfire (New Photos)

Just to prove I had done the canopy… And a cockpit shot… I realise the belts look a bit ‘Christmas Ribbon’ but I do like them viewed as an overview of the model… -

Thanks George, re the crow bar, I just placed it as per the photo they sent me. Yep, I do too, I’m not against weathered at all, but I seem to be morphing towards clean builds lately, they just look nicer to me in my dotage. It was quite nice to have the chance to model a clean aircraft and not have to justify it! Ah, it was all down to the masks maker Fredrik! 😀 Guy -

Ah, I must catch up on that, thanks. Ah, thanks Rob, covered in fingerprints in the flesh.. 😆 Guy -
Hi all, Just finished this, to replicate RR232 currently based at Goodwood. This kit is Airfix’s finest to date, great fit, nice detail and the stressed skin effect is exceptionally well rendered. Thanks for looking… Guy

Yep, I know it looks wrong but it does look better in real life! If you could get the same thing in a more olive drab/ Matt look it would be really great… Guy -

Few big chunks of plastic down the line… fit seems top notch, I have however got a few areas that will require a little filler - but I’m convinced this is because of me. It’s been great fun so far 😬 I’d love to see the whole range of classic Airfix 1/24th kits retooled… Guy -
Hi All, Ive been tasked to build the new Airfix Spitfire for a company that operates Spits at Goodwood. Not too much of a burden to be honest! This is not meant to be a full build log, more of a few photos of the progress at various stages. The aircraft to be modelled is RR232… Here’s a few pictures they’ve sent me… I’m trying to model this aircraft as she looks now, so will be a clean build! The seat cushion is, I think, a parachute, so I’m just modelling the bare seat seat. I’ve been racking my brain about the modern green straps and I came up with these using Hiroboy’s (model car shop) ‘sage 1/24 seat belt ribbon’ and a corresponding set of PE 1/24 harness buckles. I was a bit disappointed that the ribbon was too wide to fit the buckles which was my intention. I tried cutting the ribbon but it instantly frayed so I’ve just stuck on the buckles - poor effort I know in this scale! The kit gives you a moulded set of harnesses but are extremely over thick and don’t represent what’s on the actual aircraft. The ribbon also looks a little like it’s off a Christmas doll, but I ran out of ideas! I was a little disappointed as I thought these would be a bit more realistic. There seems to be very little in Aftermarket available yet for the kit, so it’s the kit instrument panel using their individual decals, these work well and each has a clear epoxy drop to simulate the glass. Looks ok. They want it with some panels off, I’m not quite sure about the wing bays - I guess I’ll just leave off the ammunition and just have empty bays. Here’s where I’m at. Fit so far really excellent. Every Airfix kit seems an improvement on the last. I haven’t modelled the iPad yet, but may do… it surely must be a first on Britmodeller - a Spitfire with an iPad! Thanks for looking, Guy

Thanks, lots of useful info there… I haven’t actually thought about which one I’ll do yet. She’s currently sitting in a fresh coat of primer in a box as I need to get another model finished, but will be restarted shortly. I’m drawn to a full load of wing/ Centre tanks and 4&4 missives just to show what she could carry. Regarding colour, this picture shows a little of the variation! Guy

Funny you should mention this, I wanted the Tamiya Phantom because of the pleasure in building their kits, but went for a Zoukei Mura 4-J so I can do an RAF version. The ZM kit has fabulous surface detail, but it also has a lot of big join lines, the fit is decent, but not to the extent that they disappear like Tamiya’s - so lots of tricky teeny gaps to fill or lines to be re scribed which is ok, but, difficult to get a factory perfect surface for the paint. Don’t get me wrong it looks fine, but not flawless under magnification… Guy

Airfix New Tool 1/72 Meteor & JP (New Pics)
Gisbod replied to Gisbod's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks Terry, tbh though, I personally think the judging to be a bit of a lottery. I had a couple of great models (you know when you’ve nailed one) that didn’t place, and a couple of iffy ones that I’d thought I’d put in to boost the numbers that won gold 🙃 but, I get that it’s subjective and it’s all a bit of fun. Maybe that’s a bit controversial.. 😆 Guy -
