  1. Thanks Dubster, If it turns out looking that good I'll give it a go! My dio DaveJL is 32nd scale
  2. Yeah that would be great duster, anything will be a help. It's one thing I've never tried so all infomation would be a help at this point
  3. Come on, I think we have used our wifes or girlfiends stuff for modelling at some point! So far ive used half the kitchen equipment for doing things modelling-wise. I explained that I was helping with cutting the washing up down....................it didn't work lol! Good wook there though on the dio, simple and quick works for me
  4. Should keep trying as everything improves. Never heard of using tea leafs I might try that on another one I do later, good idea
  5. Ive been working on this while my enthusiasm has taken a holiday during my build of a trumpeter A-1H. I thought about many things to try but I thought id stick a nice German bunker on a hill ready for the advancing forces from the allies. As you can see its quite imposing looking down across the forest and muddy road. I have still lots to do to it, plus I'm thinking of covering it in snow (never done that so I'm having a mild panic at the idea). The bunker is removable so any figures can be put inside, any thoughts or questions are more than welcome
  6. Hello Modellers, i was wonder where i a can make a request to the runners of britmodeller to ask why there isnt a sub forum for diorama's. I think it would be a great addition to what we have here already, what do you think?? any help with contacting the web site owners would be very welcome
  7. Well I finally got time and the weather (I am in Scotland after all) to get the critter outside for a few pictures on a little base I made, so I just wanted to share the results and just to show my 'stand'..............yep, a hedge
  8. Thanks for all the comments everyone I used the little tinlets from humbrol sprayed via an airbrush as I am not a great lover of any spray cans. Alot love them for the ease of use but I just haven't ever been able to control them and end up with some places with no paint and areas flooded. Its all personal choice how and what to use, its like the base coat I cheated a little by buying a can of Halfords automotive Matt Black but I de-canned it into my spray gun jar. This way I had good paint and good control of the paint I was applying and where I was applying it to.
  9. Well this started of as a quick easy project with no extras that I thought I'd use to try my metal painting technique out on before I did my B.A.C Lightening, well I got that a little wrong! Quick and easy...............not likely! But it was enjoyable as it certainly put the brain, fingers and other skills to the test. Fit is poor and a challenge at almost very stage, but lets be fair to it, its getting on a bit and you can pick it up for £15 or less. The cockpit was very sparse so I add some cabling and extra switches to make it look a bit more interesting and realistic, added oil washes and chipping inside and outside of the plane. All painted with Humbrol metal coats which I must say I was really pleased with, I haven't tried other brands but these went on really well after a base coat of matt black. I used matt black as I wasn't after a nice and shiny aircraft but a rather beaten up and weather one. Here we go, all comments welcome on the Critter!
  10. Many thanks for all your comment, its made this tough build worth while :-)
  11. To be honest Jean I haven't a clue myself, I did look at a few pictures via the internet and they all looked open to me but others might have more information to confirm this.................to me it looks about right :-) Edit: you are quite correct, how I missed it on all the pictures I have I don't know how I missed it. Talk about blind lol! Doh!
  12. After a few months of swearing and head banging I finally got this one done, i'm quite amazed and wish I was drinking the same stuff the Trumpeter guys were when the developed this kit! I only ever work to "it looks about right scale" but how they missed out putting in holes for pylons and weapons to fit on them I don't know. Maybe it was the fact I had a bad kit (it happens), but to be honest from Trumpeter I would have expected a better kit for fit. That's not knocking to hard, it (with time and swear words) it builds up well, id say its not for those that wish to build it straight out of the box not expecting fit problems. So here she is, I want to experiment more with washes and staining on this one so she's been made to look like she's had a hard time out on the decks and been working for a living. All questions and comments welcome, but as I said I work on "it looks about right" scale :-)
  13. Wasn't 'bit of lace' the airfix B-17 of many moons ago?? Great work there on much big scale, weathering looks top notch
  14. I'm modelling a AV-8B at the moment and wondering if anyone can give me some pointers on how to replicate the fire retardant on the bombs that i'm aiming to hang off it. So if anyone has any ideas or videos of how to do it I would be very grateful indeed :-)
  15. Yeah well I think i'd be running away from it rather than trying to read the writing on the side of it if it was coming down near me!
  16. no I was on about the blue and white bands being way to big lol! seems I made a few other errors as well then, we live and learn :-) fixed that mistake
  17. This is my 1/32 Hasegawa Fw-190 A-8, turned out ok but...................there is a big error in my paint job and it was to late to correct it! I wont say what it is as hopefully no one will spot it :banghead: ! Not much to add about the kit that hasn't already ready been said, it went together well and I had very minimal fit issues. My kit decals didn't look in good shape so I had a look round and settled on EagleCals #79 'Black 12' caught my eye because of the red and yellow snake design. This A-8 was originally flown by JGr.10 which was a small weapons testing unit. The Red/Yellow snake design was carried by the co-called Schlangenschwarm part of this unit. In Spring 1945 they was disbanded and directed to over their aircraft to other units. This aircraft came to 8./JG300 and is still carried the snake design although it was partially fogged over Well he we go, hope you like it and first to spot the mistake wins..................................a ok it was the blue and white bands, I incorrectly sized them by a long way DOH!
  18. check out eaglecals as they do many different sets if your interested
  19. Yeah JG5 schemes were certainly interesting but it was mickey that got me! It is the first I've ever done with a white-wash (white-ish), im quite pleased with the results :-)
