  1. It looked like the deck number was only assigned after it joined the Task Force, ships 1-3 were just the other carriers in the group that were a different type. So it looks like the numbers are assigned and changed when deployed to a unit rather than given to a ship and kept forever like a real navy. I'd guess if the numbers are given each deployment based on which fleet they are assigned to any combination is cool
  2. Its an amazing piece of work and I'm glad it'll look the part If it helps the decals on the deck translate as '04' which are pretty generic. In fact if you felt the need I had a copy of their alphabet somewhere... there it is So if you did feel a need to alter the deck numbers or otherwise customise it that might help
  3. I would say that if you are recreating the ship from the show I'd scale back the weathering a bit, it was held in mothballs for a long time but it was also part of a professional military and the navy really likes to make its sailors scrub things! But if its a sister ship from a different fleet you can do anything you want. In the show the guys who operate these ships were fighting a massive war elsewhere against an extra-galactic alien Empire at the end of long supply chains with limited reinforcements. I'd guess that any warships fighting on that front would probably look rather worse for wear Normally I'd say space ships would have minimal weathering as there's not much up there to interact with, but these ships are supposed to operate as airships and ocean going vessels in addition to travelling in space so you can justify any amount of weathering you want The variation in colour really makes the details pop, and after all that effort it'd be a shame not to emphasise the extra work you have put in As a bit of extra background, the ship that you build out of the box was the original prototype and not very popular due to its cost, though it was a very capable vessel. She was lost in action but she at least survived longer than most units that had to face our heroes and she did some damage in the process. It must have made a good impression and forced a shift in doctrine as the class was put into production later, there were never a lot of them but they did show up as command ships and heavy combatants. One even ended up as the flagship for the Emperor with a few upgrades. In other battles when not fighting against the main characters they proved very tough and dangerous vessels and at least in the 70s version were the best ships in the navy. I can definitely see ships of this class thrown into the worst fighting and surviving quite a beating.
  4. If it helps here is a compilation of some battles from the show, has the carrier in there too for a bit about 6mins in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5VsKFqMCog Might help with the lighting colours, they have a sort of gradiated effect which looks a bit fiddly
  5. Best of luck sir Are you going to have the large midship lights change colour? I haven't been able to find out what they are, whether they are Star Trek like deflectors, or intakes, or some form of sensor, but they do change colour depending on the vessels status. They are green for cruising stations before turning yellow/orange for action stations. Sounds like it'll look great when its done!
  6. No worries The colour was Revell Enamel 37, Reddish brown, but Humbrol 160 is a good match too, I just had Revell in the stash already I usually build armour and that colour makes a good Panzer Brown
  7. Got a pic of my attempt, still needs a bit more detailing and the weathering blended a bit so it doesn't contrast as much, but hope it helps visualise the colour scheme a bit
  8. Appreciated sir, long time lurker here I went with Humbrol Insignia red for the main hull, a shade or two darker than the plastic. The flight deck looked more of a ruddy brown colour to me so I used Revells Red/Brown on the horizontal surfaces. However because this ship's backstory said it was left in mothballs for a while, and then when it went into action it fought in a very unstable nebula I reasoned it was probably going to look pretty weathered and worn, I'll try drum up some pictures I do have some pics on hand of some earlier entries, apologies for the poor quality
  9. Hello there Just finished this kit myself and it goes together very nicely, couple of fiddly bits but on the whole it virtually snaps together, I barely used any glue Also enjoying the show it comes from, I grew up with the original show way back so I was pretty keen on the remake especially the revamped ship designs. And you are right, this is a bad guy and a pretty high end one too, though I can't say it has a particularly long and successful career... The Galvades class was originally designed as the ultimate Commerce Raider, bit like the old Graf Spee in WWII. It was supposed to operate independently far behind enemy lines hitting convoys, supply bases, cutting lines of communication and that sort of thing. To that end it was given the firepower of a battleship (And then some) plus a decent sized airwing for flexibility. In theory it was a good idea and the ship performed well in trials, unfortunately it turned out to be vastly expensive to build and run, it worked out cheaper just to be build a regular battleship and carrier and send those two ships out instead. So the Darold here was one of a kind. The prototype was put aside in mothballs and largely forgotten about. That was until our heroic Earth ship Yamato destroyed or stranded virtually the entire Gamilas Navy and left the entire home systems of the Empire undefended. In an act of desperation the Empire sent their best general along with any ships and crews he could scrape together up against Yamato in one last battle to keep it from reaching the Gamilas home system. This was one of those ships. She didn't do badly at all, she's bristling with guns and was pretty tough, though she was going into action with a crew of cadets and reactivated veterans, the classic 'old men and boys' idea. The flight deck has the nice gimmick of flipping over to reveal those secondary gun batteries once the air wing has launched giving the ship a serious amount of firepower, I think she has more heavy calibre guns than any other vessel in the show. Sadly she didn't have the character shields of her opponent For the other vessels, you have the heavy bomber with its huge missile which I think was called Garlent. The missile is a modified asteroid mining drill that they hoped would kill Yamato in one hit. Didn't exactly go to plan. The white ship is the detachable command section of the Task force flagship named the Domelaze. It was a huge Dreadnought class vessel that could detach its upper decks as a sort of enhanced lifeboat if the ship itself was lost, which of course it was. Hope that fills in the backstory This design is probably my favourite from the show and I'm keen to see how you approach it. Building these Yamato series ships really made me appreciate Bandai's kit engineering, hope it all goes well
