Yeah, must have been eaten, I can link it again if you need it The guy who made the battleship does indeed have a site documenting his progress here http://www.geocities.jp/dourakuoyadi/newpage500SBY-1.htm and his site in general http://www.geocities.jp/dourakuoyadi/ He's currently working on super detailing the new 1/500 Yamato, a master of his craft Plenty of other Yamato series ships in his gallery to browse and drool over most of them scratch builds or serious conversions. http://www.geocities.jp/dourakuoyadi/newpage-puramoderu.htm Love the Heavy Cruiser at the start of the movie, but very hard to find reference material on unfortunately. -

Those torpedo tubes look very spiffy Shame we never see them really let loose in the show, looking at the number of tubes these ships seem designed to sit back and spam missiles and torpedoes at targets from long range while the smaller cruisers and destroyers rush in to finish off survivors at close range. In terms of gun firepower these battleships are outgunned by the smaller cruiser designs, but those torps definitely make up for it Nice that whoever designed these vehicles took a look at the sort of roles a fleet would need and set up warships to fill each niche. Carrier, missile ship, fast attack, Dreadnought etc. Fair bit of thought gone into it -

If the signs are true it's going to get worse Yamato 2199 is a remake of the original Yamato series from the 70s, but there are two more series and a bunch of one off films too and it looks a lot like they'll continue on and remake those. The second series is often cited as the best and as well as a good story it also showcases a rebuilt Earth Navy. I like these alien ships and the style choices, but if they do make the second series then inevitably they'll have to release the full Earth fleet, plus a whole new bunch of alien ships to get smashed too This is the Earth flagship from the second series, the Andromeda, designed to replace the Yamato and be superior in every way. I have the older kit but a modern version of this would be mind blowing From all I've read both the remake series and these kits have sold well and made a profit, with luck this is just starting -

After research I have some slightly annoying news, that blue ship picture is actual size Bandai are doing some pocket kits alongside the big ones and thats a shot of the pocket version, which is annoying. I thought I'd screwed up the maths when it worked out as £2.50, but no. So I'm afraid we're still waiting for one to scale with the rest of the fleet, hopefully we'll see it tail end of the year. in 1000 scale it'll be about 63cm long but pretty bulky with those wings. Probably end up a similar price to the Dreadnought. I really want one -

Ghost grey maybe? I think thats the base colour of F-22s and the like Though I did a TOS Enterprise in Ghost and it looked more like dirty white, so I dunno, might be worth experimenting or doing some patches as suggested above This is the clearest pic of the other grey ship in the fleet, might help Also final image of the other new release That might be my new favourite -

Sounds a good plan mate, with the extra detail and shading its guaranteed to look awesome Compass Grey is is your basic US military grey, there's a couple of shades I think but the basic one has a nice blue tinge to it which looks quite nice -

I think I'd go with Compass grey as a base, but to my eye there is a hint of violet too. Maybe a couple of drops just to differentiate it from the Dreadnought. The Intel department who operated the ship tended to wear uniforms with purple highlights and a slight violet tinge which makes me think their ships might have a similar scheme. Also I think this particular vessel flew with an entirely female crew To the best of my knowledge it survived the series and is still out there doing whatever it does -

Good to see you starting the build mate, great to see these kits done justice For the lights, yeah, even the show producers are cagey on that one. The prevailing theory is they are part of the targeting system and they change colour as they power up and begin searching for enemies but that's unofficial. I've heard it said that they are simply there to show the vessel's intentions, purely symbolic like running up the battle ensigns on real world warships. Real reason I guess is rule of cool -

Love the battleship, nice sleek and menacing design If you are going for the grey version she's called the 'Shangri La' and here's a couple of screen shots of her... Also keep an eye out for this beast... due out in the next few weeks -

As an extra note the original ship can be seen in these two episodes, one setting up the grand battle and the other showing some pretty nifty WWII in space combat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0jn4eFLljQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICBQ_QLfsWc -

Its cool, the deck is supposed to be red-brown in canon, I guess the guy who made that model wanted to be a bit unique himself with the grey Every ship on the show of that type though, definitely red based so your ship is accurate to the source. Dreadnought is scheduled for end of July, though there is a regular battleship due end of April also. That said I'm really keen for the red fighter plane that shows up a few times edit- Here's a pic of the rank and file battleship due April -

Its from a Japanese anime by the grand name of 'Space Battleship Yamato 2199' which is a remake of one of the original anime's from the early 70s i think. It's old school space opera, lot of drama, lot of explosions, nice balance of character development and well fleshed out antagonists which is a nice change from a lot of fiction Also, awesome looking ships and fighters Here's a long trailer for the series to get an idea... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yue88a0Mx50 Short version- Earth in the year 2199 is dying, after a long war with a superior alien empire humanity has a year left to live. From nowhere Earth is contacted by a benevolent alien who claims she can give Earth the means to restore the planet to life. She provides plans for humanity to build an advanced ftl capable ship so they can go to her world and collect this device. Unfortunately the enemies of Earth aren't about to simply let this happen so the ship is armed with experimental weapons, a crew made up from grizzled veterans and promising newcomers, and given the task of breaking through the enemy lines to save Earth before all life is extinguished. Also in order to hide this construction from the enemy the ship is disguised as a wrecked WWII battleship, which is why it has that retro look -

One of the Japanese hobby magazines showed up with some new background information on the ship, mostly what we already knew but still quite nice... The Chimera-type carrier (Gelvades class) Under the territorial expansion policy of Abelt Dessler’s regime, the active military branch of the Garmillas Empire not only increased the production of existing vessels, but also the competition between provincial planets to develop special prototype vessels. Among these, one of the newly-created vessels, called an Astro Battle Carrier, combines the characteristics of an aircraft carrier and a battleship, giving it the ability to conduct independent operations. Its main feature is to prepare for combat by inverting part of the flight deck. Although an open flight deck is established below the combat structure around the bridge, the front half serves as a gun deck that is exposed when the structure is flipped. Since the left/right turning range of the turrets is wider than the deck mechanism, they are kept in a stowed position when turning on the rotational axis. The openings in front of and behind the flight deck are closed by armored shutters when the guns are activated. The stern landing port is equipped with a bellows-type shutter like that seen on the rear hangar of the Meltoria-class astro battle cruiser. The ship has a complex structure with an angled deck on the starboard side and a main gun battery at the rear flight deck that must rotate in the 2 o’clock direction to clear the landing path. There are two layers of hangars inside the ship; aircraft are lifted to the flight deck by two large elevators located at both port and starboard. Various craft such as fighters, bombers, fast strike, and reconnaissance can be made available depending on strategy. Unlike the existing Gaiperon Class Astro Carrier, the Gelvades Class is suitable for long-term solo operations such as exploration of unknown territory, information gathering, or battle action like the breaking of enemy supply lines. However, its building costs are about double that of a conventional battleship, and the complexity of its construction process limits its production, so only a few have been deployed. And a bit on the multi deckers... The birth of the multi-deck astro carrier Among the combat vessels that make up the Garmillas Empire astro fleet, carriers are used for military operations that make use of aircraft. As the front continually grows under the expansion policies of Abelt Dessler, the specifications of carriers also repeatedly evolve at any given time. This resulted in a series of multi-deck carriers called the Guipellon class. These ships more than reflect demands from the front to allow deployment of several different models of aircraft equipped for a variety of strategies, and the distinctive feature of the Guipellon class is the division of four layers: top deck (first), upper deck (second), central deck (third), and lower deck (fourth). The first model to be built (Shuderg) had unidirectional decks, but the second (Lambea) was equipped with an angled deck. A later model (Balgray) had the forward edges of its deck reconfigured with mountain-shaped extensions for additional sensor equipment. At the time this model was designed, it seems to have been assumed that it would use the angled deck variation, so the radar tower on the central port side became retractable so as not to interfere with launching and landing aircraft. There is no hangar built into the structure of the ship, so aircraft are tethered to the decks for inertial control. Also, it is rare for all four decks to be fully employed, since the third deck is often used for storage of containers containing armaments for prolonged operations. The first, second, and third decks are used only for launching craft and the fourth is dedicated for landings. However, depending on the tactical situation, launch and landing from the angled deck is also possible. Each deck is equipped with two electromagnetic catapults to launch aircraft with the basic consideration that landings would be achieved by approaching the rear of the carrier. An arriving craft is decelerated by a tractor beam positioned at the rear, then guided to the entrance of the landing deck. In some cases, one type of aircraft is dedicated to each class of carrier, but different models can be taken on board depending on strategic demands. and a lovely picture There's more at this page including some images of the fleet in 1/1000 http://ourstarblazers.com/vault/DHApril14/ -

Seems most of the Gamilas ships don't have long gun barrels on their ships, just stubby turrets with only newer designs having proper full length cannons. Here's a vid of some random battle scenes, you can see the Dreadnought make its combat debut at 10:30 toward the end. Makes a good impression http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTJ-k2LRjM0 From the stats she mounts seven quad turrets, they look fairly small due to the bulk of the ship but work out as 490mm guns, plus a bunch of secondary weapons and missiles. Most of these alien ships tend to be pretty light on small calibre weapons, seems they favour missiles instead of flak guns. No word on if the flagship with the forked front will be out, but I think its likely. That ship does have a planet wrecking spinal cannon plus a few batteries of proper gun turrets. Really hoping it shows up -

Exactly right, though the irony is the Blue Carrier is the oldest of the three, the angled deck was supposed to be an improvement If I recall the blue one was the first of the multi deckers, the purple one was a training ship, and the green one was fresh from the yards and an improved variant. None of them were particularly survivable unfortunately (Or maybe fortunately as they were fighting Earth ) but at least they looked pretty cool exploding After the carriers there is a regular battleship due out, and thats nearly it for ship models. The last two ships are the flagship, which looks extremely mean And the dreadnought, which is due in July. Both would be vast even at 1/1000, the lower ship is going to be 730mm. I'm already planning how I'm going to get it past the better half without losing body parts -

It's a weighty bit of (Purple ) plastic, even though its mostly flight deck the inner walls have a good amount of detail and would benefit from super detailing for those with patience (Not me ) I'll likely paint it violet to match the show, but most ships of that type wore the standard navy colours of Dark Green like the smaller ship. I think the device on the ship sticking out can be pulled in tighter to the hull for flight ops, honestly can't remember But very impractical, why you'd even need a flat deck for launching spacecraft... well I guess it's rule of cool! The smaller one is a Battlecruiser, Meldoria class if I recall, quite a nice sleek vessel and its got a real Captain Nemo vibe to it. I'll russle up some better pictures in the near future. There's a second carrier due out end of this month, has a slightly different flight deck set up and is already green if purple isn't your colour Certainly make a nice blank canvas, but these ships do have a lot of lights if you wanted to illuminate it, dozens and dozens of the things on the flight deck, the inner ceilings, the walls. Be a big project http://img.amiami.jp/images/product/review/141/TOY-RBT-3665_02.jpg -

Made some progress on the multi decker carrier, here's a shot of it so far next to my (Far less awesome) Red carrier It is an odd and deeply impractical design but I sort of like it now Though the crown jewel of the collection will be the dreadnought due later this year -

The old wargame miniatures called these ships the Revenge Class, which is a far better name So presumably there should be a ship called Revenge out there, maybe the original test bed that wasn't ready in time for the grand battle, or maybe she was conducting trials elsewhere, or fighting another battle on another front and couldn't help out her sister. All the ships in the remake have alien names, but if we assume the wargame minis are the English translations of those names then you get vessls like Vindictive, Domination, Conqueror, the sort of names a good Imperial Navy should field Throw Revenge into that list and I reckon you've got some pretty intimidating names to use as precedent. It seems most capital ships are named after famous people, and lesser ships are often just hull numbers without a formal name, but I think you can name this ship something awesme and it'd be fully justifyable. Personally I like Tempest If they were built as the ultimate long range raiders to sow chaos behind enemy lines naming them after forces of nature fits pretty good Hope to start the other carrier this week when my paint order arrives, I'll try get some comparison shots to give an idea of scale. I already think I'll swap over some of the tiny fighters to the red carrier to help with scale -

No idea where my camera went, but there is a chap here who did a quick build with sprue shots and a look at the end result http://www.blog-tagimi.net/?p=19167 http://www.blog-tagimi.net/?p=19195 http://www.blog-tagimi.net/?p=19224 http://www.blog-tagimi.net/?p=19256 He hasn't painted it, which is a pity, but quite a nice and unusual looking vessel. Apparently inspired by the original design of the Carrier Akagi which had a triple level launch deck before she was redesigned to a more conventional look. -

The middle one showed up on my doorstep last week, its a lot of plastic I could probably pull up some more screencaps if you need, try get some different angles. Though honestly this build is already a better version than the ship on the show
