Space Battleship Yamato General Thread
Misrule replied to Misrule's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
Once I get the old camera going again I have 90% of a dreadnought to share Good solid beastie. The Battlecarrier should be showing up in the new film out December, probably on dvd early next year for us folks outside of Japan. Also there's a film compilation of the series out next month, abridged version of the story I reckon what we see here is proof the Gamilas fleet likes to camo its ships Originally it was just one small task force in one theatre that had the camo scheme, but now we're seeing a brand new unrelated ship also in this scheme, that's a pattern We'll know more after the film is out but I think this carrier is on deep range exploration/recce making it something of an elite unit. Hope it means we see more interesting paint schemes and a fleet carrier in camo would be awesome -
As our last thread vanished I thought it might be a good idea to set up a new one There are a few builds planned or ongoing which might need a home, and this can also serve as a general discussion about the series and its by this point pretty sizeable catalogue of kits! To kick off a few terrible pictures of some ships... some of them look like they could use a dust and a look at the alternate paint scheme for the battlecarrier which I really fancy taking a shot at

Haizerado class Astro Battleship "Shangri La"
Misrule replied to Madhatter's topic in Ready for Inspection - SF & RealSpace
I like that a lot, creates an excellent atmosphere. The pics where it appears to be emerging from the gloom are particularly effective. You definitely need a couple of fleet shots with the other warship these shots make the model look much bigger than it is, it could easily pass for studio scale. -

I'd buy that in a heartbeat. I have the mecha scale version and wow, I thought the Dreadnought was well armed This thing has more guns and missile tubes than a small fleet -

I'm looking forward to seeing you tackle the next kit in the future, maybe that Dreadnought one day -

Yuki was indeed very attractive, though personally I liked the Radar girl -

I found some moulding errors on my version, the right side wing trailing edge and the back of the wing tip pod were missing maybe a millimetre or so of plastic. Fixable but quite a surprise, Bandai are usually very good at getting stuff right first time. -

Afraid so, chap who started the thread had a bit of a barney and started altering things so the mods had to purge it along with most of his other posts. Bit of a pity, might have to recreate it and start fresh -

I reckon those things are a sort of targeting sensor that switches modes, bit like naval radar going from search mode to tracking mode. Though as far as I know there isn't a canon explanation for them yet. Worth noting though that the big carriers don't have them, only the front line warships which suggests to me that they must have something to do with engaging enemy ships directly. As the Carriers are supposed to lurk behind the lines far from enemy warships they presumably don't need them. The various fighters and bombers seem to have them too, even the tanks do, but not civilian transports. Just a theory though that seems to fit the facts -

I came across that blog while looking up Star Wars dioramas, the guy does an amazing Hoth hanger and apparently branched out into Yamato. Pretty sure his work has appeared in hobby magazines so he might be pretty well known over there. But I can't agree with purple It does look to me like it should have a tiny hint of pale violet or lilac in there, but mainly grey. Also the way weathering seems to work in space that colour will get bleached out leaving just pale grey, so I'd call that accurate The intakes are also supposed to be Gamilas green if you've got some of that colour spare, least it looked that way on the show I think you are bang on with yellow and green nav lights, those are definitely the colours on the Dreadnought and something like that must be standardised across the fleet. Seems logical to me anyway EDIT- Definitely yellow and green -

I've been getting mine from Hobby Link Japan and buying 3-4 at a time to try save on postage. I'm not sure its working You can find them on E-Bay, I think I saw a few on Amazon too but it worked out cheaper to buy from abroad despite the hefty postage. Very serious mark ups I'm afraid on most of them, I wish you luck sir -

Me neither really, I'd call myself an enthusiastic amateur, certainly not the calibre of Messrs Hatter and Vale here Inspirational work Be amazing if they did the whole fleet, though you'd probably need to hire your own jet to get them delivered There are some smaller models out there of the full fleet by I think Megahouse but I can't confirm they are in scale with each other. I do agree that they should release the smaller kits individually, I'd buy a full squadron of Melda's Czvarke Fighter. That fighter in 1/72 and the Deusula Dreadnought are my dream kits for this series, and then of course all the Earth ships I hope they make with a possible second series Anyhow, some battleship references, hope they work and thanks to Mr Hatter for tolerating this tangent to his masterpiece http://tinypic.com/r/5klv1c/8 http://tinypic.com/r/143m7if/8 http://tinypic.com/r/1zyf0uq/8 http://tinypic.com/r/21bn479/8 http://tinypic.com/r/1py0y0/8 http://tinypic.com/r/rhu89e/8 http://tinypic.com/r/vdll46/8 http://tinypic.com/r/2v1pttg/8 http://tinypic.com/r/4vgvgp/8 -
Haizerado class Astro Battleship
Misrule replied to Madhatter's topic in Work In Progress - SF & RealSpace
The Domelaze gives you in total three upper saucer bits, but only one lower part so unfortunately you can only build one complete saucer. If you had the Battlecarrier you'd have all the bits to build a second complete saucer (though it would be the teleportation gear variant only) and then you can swap them, the connections work. If you can acquire a spare underside, or I guess make your own, then you have enough bits for two full versions Thanks for the website too, I love the Type 61 Tank, my all time favourite kit to build. And I'll get some reference pics up later today Best thing about Goer's design is it is symmetrical which helps a lot with the planning and masking -

The Dreadnought allows you to build one or the other bridge variants, the plain version or the one with the teleportation devices. The windows are clear but unfortunately clear purple which doesn't help much Though as the windows are separate it'd be easier to get a fresh cast of just those rather than the whole saucer structure. It also comes with the same sprue as the Battle Carrier and uses most of the same bits, but gives you a new better upper saucer part The new carrier was on the advert for the new film due December, so hopefully we'll get to see it early next year I had some references for Goer's ship too if you want some more references, I used it as the basis for my build though i tweeked the scheme a bit -

Yeah I'm terrible I thought I'll do a little bit of pre assembly while I wait for paints, just a tiny bit of work. Five hours later... I also slapped together one of these Haizerads too, I just can't leave things in boxes I can say for the Dreadnought it went together incredibly smoothly, considering the size and weight of parts it was a very good and solid fit. Probably want a tiny bit of filler on one or two joins around the bow and the main intakes but overall the engineering was close to perfect. Only needed glue on the tiny fins which all these ships have. The method by which the two halves fit together also very solid, not a wobble Need some fresh batteries for my ancient camera but will find some pics in the future. Meanwhile some references for the Zoelgutt, I'll just link them as there are a few http://tinypic.com/r/24euyko/8 http://tinypic.com/r/mkj12q/8 http://tinypic.com/r/2hs19g4/8 http://tinypic.com/r/mj37k7/8 http://tinypic.com/r/im2e1k/8 http://tinypic.com/r/wrzuoi/8 http://tinypic.com/r/2gyc7zk/8 http://tinypic.com/r/15yvz1g/8 http://tinypic.com/r/6r2a6u/8 Hope that covers all angles The kit has name plate decals for all three known ships which makes life easier Also anyone else see the new battlecarrier? Same class as Mr Hatter built a few months ago but in a rather vibrant camouflage scheme. Very eye catching -

It was a build on twitter of all places, but unfortunately it seems to have vanished from the net. I can probably grab some screen shots if you like, from what I recall the vessel was completely red, probably the same shade as the battlecarrier. My Dreadnought arrived Friday and it is a heavy bit of plastic I was going to do a fully documented build but I'm weak and easily tempted so its built and awaiting paint EDIT- I went with Insignia Red for my carrier, probably what I'd go for regarding the Zoelgutt herself. Ultimately I think I'll paint up my version as the Domelaze and match the rest of the fleet. Though I did give a lot of thought to painting it green and calling it a production model serving the regular navy -

Hobby search is great for previews, I love how they put the instructions up so you can get prepared I'll try get some scale shots of the sprues too, figure out how much shelf is needed Also need to pick some colours, I'm thinking not the ones this guy did -
