Happy birthday!

Finally done! Very far from perfect, and for sure one of my most challenging builds. But I am so happy with the finished product and how it looks.
I also learned a lot somehow by tackling something outsode my comfort zone. I think I'll stick to 1/48 jets though!
I look forward to seeing everyone in the F15 STGB. It's no secret. The F15 is the best looking airplane ever!

Thanks so much for the description. I think my method is the same but I need some slightly different tools. The Gunze is quite benign to the plastic, so this bit I'm ok with.
Thanks for the tips. I will get some polishing compound and nail buff sticks from the pharmacy.

Nice!

Can you please explain how you do this exactly? I use fine sandpaper then micromesh then toothpaste followed by a dip in thinned Gunze Aqueous clear, but it doesn't turn out as good as what you have done.

That's gonna look nice with the main colour on.

Wow it's already February! Better get a wriggle on!
I removed seam and polished and dipppppped the canopy today. So it should be nice and dry by weekend to mask up and start priming and painting. Painting shouldn't take too long so it should be a quick sprint to the finish!
I want to start the Attack group build and I feel that my likely selection for that one is going to be a bit of a marathon. I will make my final selection once I have this F18 a little closer to finished. That way I can change to something simpler if I don't think I'll have time.

Got the matt coat on using Mig lucky varnish. I think it works pretty well. Spray with high pressure at 15-20cm and don't let it pool. I did a teething coat then came back and gave it 6 or 7 thin coats letting it dry for 4 or 5 minutes between each one.
Tomorrow night I hope I can spray back end gloss black then alclad it and do final assembly! Woohoo!

Yes I did that too. So easy. Red is not as brilliant as painted but it actually looks better in my opinion!

A micromesh polishing is the only work left to do on the airframe
Do you always micromesh your models or just this one? I never really do it but I'm wondering if I should be

Almost finished with this. Just a Matt coat, then the steel/metal areas at the back to do.
I did a simplified design on the fuel tank because the decal colours didn't match the camp colours and it also just shattered when put in water.
Hopefully can get this finished next weekend!

Slowly inching towards that finish line. I have missiles done, landing gear doors done, and anti glare panel painted!
I'm not sure if I should give it a matt coat. I know these planes were semi gloss finish, but I think the matt coat may look better.
I also painted the missile noses the wrong colour, but anyway, I like the light tan colour.
Now just the matt coat and the burner cans then she'll be done!

And if you look closely, you'll note I somehow managed to forget to shoot 1 piece.
And that was my last RC004 Flat White. Oh well, a hobby shop visit is in order....I always do stuff like this. As soon as all the airbrush is packed away I realise I missed one piece!

Want to get this and the F14 Tophatter done before I do anything more on the F18. And definitely before I start the Attack/Strike/Bomber GB.
All decals are on and all undercarriage painted white and worst oversprays have been touched up. It's gloss coated and I'll give a light pinwash then dullcoat. Then finally I'll do the metal sections at the rear end. I'll do it at same time as F14 cans.
This build has been one of my longest and most challenging, but also it's given me the most satisfaction.
I really like 1/72 jets. When done well they look so good because of their size. I understand when people say the one true scale! However they are fiddly as ____.

I feel like mine is on its last legs... it's pretty old and spent a long time in the tropics too. Today it was struggling to give 1bar
