F-15 Eagle inspiration gallery

Unfortunately with the photobucket watermarks. My first ever RFI for Britmodeller. 1/48 Tamiya kit with twobobs decals and some resin cans. -

Don't mind if I do... I used to see these flying over my house when I lived in Singapore. This is 1/48 Academy kit. -

Looks like 1/48 or even bigger. Great work! -
Not much of an update, just got the wingtip tanks done (dry fitted only) and the rear of the cockpit cover thing on. Does anyone know what colour this should be? I'm guessing a sort of medium grey. Prob won't get much more done on this until after 25th when we move house!

I've been waiting all year for this one! -
This is such a good looking plane Julian. A very fitting cute name too. You're making tidy work of this kit too mate!

Nice save -
Well I got back from vacation. Feeling refreshed? First thing this morning was to bust out the masking tape and Alclad aluminium. I then got the landing gear on and painted the tips on the tail with clear yellow. And calling it done! Will get some proper photos for the gallery later today hopefully! It looks good, but not great. However I am still happy how it turned out considering the quality of the kit.

I remember my cousin building this back in 1990 or something like that. This brings back some memories! I think it may have found it's way into my bag before I left their place If I were to ever see this for 20 times that price I would probably build it. And for sure I love that idea of the store display for displaying the finished model.

Ok so it's not just me who thought it looked like a fish! Never seen this before but it looks great!

Depending on if it works with the wings or not, I would cut the whole thing in the Middle of the waffle pattern (middle row of rectangles) with razor saw or scrbing tool, then flip outer sections and glue after tidying up edges. Then I'd fill the waffles with epoxy or putty to restrengthen the joint. This is, of course , based on just seeing the picture above. It's a pretty good stuff up. Reminds me of something I would do!

It looks really good Dermot. Yeah any photos usually always show up the worst little things even though they are hardly evident by eye. Perhaps cutting the decals into pieces would have been the way to go in this case?

As cliche as it is, I'd pick the top one! -

Do you mean laquer thinner? -
Indeed. This really is a fantastic model. It's a little challenging though. Both inherently and self induced. As I will proceed to show. The landing gear is all superbly detailed but very jewellery like. There was no way this was going to go together after painting, so I will mask around it. A lot of other very small parts need to go on also. Then. There was something bugging me about the shape of the plane yesterday as I zoomed it around the living room making afterburner noises. And I realised now what it was. This fin is backwards. Well, finally that scribing tool came in handy and I was able to do some literal plastic surgery. Ah, now it looks proper. And now she's sitting on her legs. The wheels are not glued on of course. Was never a huge fan of the Starfighter before, but really this is an amazing looking aircraft. I have pretty much decided to make the Canadian forest green scheme. I think the parallel group build which I am unfortunately not taking part in has something to do with it. I really would like to do a RCAF B-24 coastal command for that but I know I won't finish it in time so will save that for another day. If anyone knows a suitable Tamiya or Mr Colour paint for the Canadian scheme let me know. Will be on leave for a week then moving house so no more progress on this for a while I think.

Got a couple of hours in on this after work today! Drybrushed the cockpit and picked out some buttons in yellow and red. Then remembered on this one to add lots of noseweight. This, if anything, is going to snap the front landing gear and burrow through the shelf. The nice thing is it now has some real weight to it which somehow always feels better. Like more expensive or something. And the zipper all zipped up. Everything fit together very nicely more or less. Any mistakes were pretty much my own doing, but they'll buff out with a sanding stick and a touch of filler. How they decided to put such small wings on this thing I can never understand. Now the main airframe is done, and I'll need to start on all the gubbins. I don't think I will get much more done this week, then I'm off to Slovenia for a week holiday to try and escape this mad heat.

The back of that box just brought back a lot of memories! Building these little kits with the skill show above however, that I am sure I didn't do!

AZ Model De Havilland DH103F Hornet Mk.3, 19 Sq., 1950...
arfa1983 replied to John Masters's topic in The Century Fighters GB
I will definitely be interested to see how this comes together John. I once built AZ model's Tunnan and was dismayed by it (I think mostly when compared with the price) Hope this one is a bit more gentle on you!- 12 replies
