I really would like to see the Falklands covered in a movie, it's about time now that we are over thirty years from the conflict. -
The Right Stuff ----yes...forgot about that one. Red Tails is tosh but you're not going to see Me 262's in combat in many films.
-
Fighter Squadron was a good film. I know some people who just watch Thunderball for the Vulcan's and the B17 at the end. I seem to remember a film that was about the USAAF and a crew that used the "Bit o' Lace" aircraft. Anyone know the title?

Hartmann would be interesting and yes the latter part of the war then his post war career in the reborn Luftwaffewould be interesting. Also possibly a more accurate retelling of the Black Sheep squadron, Pappy Boyington was not exactly the best sort of person but his flight career was heroic. -

I will get the CD of Bomber. I'd also like to see a film of the test pilots particularly John Derry. -

A point in question is a remake of The Dambusters which if accurate should show Gibson as a 24 year old guy who did not mix a pally with the crews (as depicted in the original movie)... This is I believe how Gibson is to be depicted in the film - a young aloof chap who is a somewhat stand offish and also suffering gout at the time. My point is that if language can be used in other films for historical accuracy then the dog's name need not be changed. The Dam Busters was shown on TV recently before the water shed and the language was not changed. The black Labrador was called by his character name about six times in the film...that is all that would be required. And a friend of mine is a Liason officer for the BBC and RAF Museum, he has gone on record as saying "Guy Gibson's dog was called Nigger and it should remain that way"...by the way my friend is from Jamaican descent and is one of the darkest skinned men I have ever met. And he is adamant that history should be portrayed as accurately as possible. I do like the idea of the Ginger Lacey story - redheads are the best sort of people!!! I am biased. I'd also like to see a good film on the OSS with the Lysander in use. -

I would argue that if in Boardwalk Empire the N word can be used and in 12 Years a Slave for historical correctness...then the same can be used for the dogs name from 1943...It is historically correct. And if the BBC can show the film in it's entirety - again a remake does not need a political correct dogs name. Personally though I don't think Dam Busters should be re made - but if it is to be re made then leave alone historical facts. -

Wow, some great points and ideas...Another pne I really liked and it would make a great film is Gray Eagles by Duane Unkefer - It's a boys own adventure in the Where Eagles Dare vein. As for the PC Brigade and Gibson's labrador, then I think the film should be boycotted. Calling the dog Digger is an insult to those Dam Busters still alive and to the memory of the men who went on the raid...It is history and so long as there is a note at the beginning of the film then no one can complain. As for the Three Musketeers it was absolute pants - go back to the 1974 film with Oliver Reed. I do so hate this politically correct brigade. Anyhow - rant over. The 1950's Star of Africa is available on DVD it is a German film, I have it and yet to watch it. It is obvious there are a few movies we'd go and see that should be made. I would also add the story of Col. Cody based near Brooklands one of Britain's father pioneers of flight yet started out as a bit of a conman. -
Oh oh oh....what about Firefox? OK It's dated but it's still cool. And Baa Baa Black Sheep - Corsairs flying around - Deep Joy.

There is a thread on Britmodeller at the moment that concerns favourite aviation movies...We must all have our favourites and there are memories and reasons behind those films. I would like to ask what films, stories including aviation themes that you would like to see made? There are many stories and tales that with today's technology all the planes ever made can fly again on film. Personally I'd like to see a movie made about Hans Jochaim Marseille - Daniel Bruhl would be perfect for the role. The remake of The dam Busters is on the cards - I hope they keep it historically correct and keep the dogs name - personally I don't think the film needs remaking, the only good thing would be CGI'ed full 617 Squadron on screen - but if they do I nominate Eddie Redmayne as Guy Gibson. But other tales - the Amiens Raid, Goodbye Mickey Mouse by Len Deighton, I'd like to see a film revolving around The Black Cat(alinas), Dale Brown has written some great books using B52's and F111's, Stephen Coont's books with Jake Grafton (Flight of the Intruder), Johnnie Johnston's biog, What about the bombing of Port Stanley - a film of supreme aircraft heroics. I want to see Mig 29's going at it on screen as well. I am sure that there are stories out there be told - what do you Brit Modellers feel?
-
Oh boy what a thread... OK Battle of Britain has to be the best because of all the hardware - they had real Spitfires and real (almost real) Me 109's. Dam Busters a close second because of the event, the character development, the plot development. And OK only three but they had Lancasters too! 633 Squadron is wonderful but the plot drags a little. Red Tails is excellent how many films do you see P40's, Mustangs, B17's Me 109's and 262's all in the same film...OK the plot is a little poor and the characters also but the flying scenes make up for this big time! Mosquito Squadron - I like this for the nostalgia - a poor mans 633 but still we see Mossies flying around. Memphis Belle - OK it was several stories rolled into one but still great although dated CGI. 12 o'clock High - still acknowledged as one of the best films about the psychological effect of war and great use of actual footage from WW2 - except a P47 doubling for a Me109 or FW190!!! What about Flight of the Phoenix? Hardy Kruger making a life size model to fly out of the desert? And one of the best ever films for aviation... TOPGUN....come on when will we see F14 Tomcats doing the business? You Only Live Twice - The autogyro is one of the most classic flying sequences in a movie. A Bridge Too Far - OK it's mainly armour but how many times are we going to see those Daks and when the Spitfire comes over on a Recce - still sends shivers down my back. And there are worthy mentions - Dark Blue World, Tuskagee Airmen (Better Plot Line than Red Tails but not as much aircraft!), Apocalyps Now, Flight of the Intruder, Black Hawk Down, Tora Tora Tora, Battle of Midway, Reach for the Sky, Angels One Five. There are many others - what I like about this thread is that we all have some great thoughts on aviation movies...what memories are behind those? My dad died recently but I remember going to see The Battle of Britain when I was five and consequently I have seen it many times with and without my dad, he loved flying and aircraft and loved seeing planes in action. All these old movies I saw with him.

I've ordered mine...£70 is a snip!
-
I'll be on that trail maybe even two!
-
I am so looking forward to this one. The Pilot looks to be the best yet from Airfix.
-
That sounds like a good bargain - I do miss the range of models though...I must get down to LSA in Brighton - he probably has the best range on the shelves to view.
-
Finally went to Model Zone in Croydon yesterday. Very slick area on the upper floor - at least I can get Humbrol paints easily. It was a very underwhelming experience - more emphasis on collectors models than plastic kits and advertising a range on their leaflets that were not available in store. To be fair there was a few Italeri as well as Tamiya and the usual Airfix and Revell but I have to say I have more kits in my stash than they do in their shop!
-
No...don't be sory we are all adults and this is such a friendly place - just talking and putting points forward. WHS are filling a tiny gap. My main point is that we have lost the model shop as we know it. My local WHS doesn't have a Model Zone, my local model shop is Mick Charles - RC with a sprinkle of plastic kits. My nearest model shop is Dorking! And he's only open three days a week now. I have to get all my stuff now via the net or shows. It is frustrating that I have to do this!!!
-
Tamiya's 1/32 series of planes have set the standard in engineering quality. Yes WHS are going for the populist market but they sell all the model magazines that extol the virtues of Bronco, Trumpeter, Dragon etc. WHS cannot carry every make we have established that but Airfix, Revell and Tamya are not the be all and end all...WHS I feel need a buyer that will cater for the more seasoned modeller...perhaps have hub Model Zones in larger WHS branches. We all know that the specialist items are really only available on the net and at shows...but the mainstream kits are not just Airfix Revell and Tamiya...those who have dropped out of the hooby and return have a bigger choice now and most will look at the magazines or on the net for a version of the hokey cokey 2000 model that A, R and T do not make. WHS are overlooking those who actually spend money on models and that is not the 15-25 year olds...it's us over 35 that still spend on models and we spend not just on A R and T.
-
Tamiya will always be at the centre for some hard core modellers. My attitude is that if I want the more "obscure" kits like Dragon, Trumpeter, Hasegawa et al. I will have to wait for a model show or buy on line. This disappoints me - I fuly appreciate that WHS need to approach this as business like as possible so you can't have a WHS MZ fully stocked but at least sell Dragon products and keep a hand on release of a new models such as Bronco and Hasegawa - don't just stick with the top three.
-
Looked at the link for Modelzone/WHS...I fear I was right in the beginning. An airfix/Revell and Tamiya outlet and nothing to give us a wow factor...lets get parents to spend on their kids section with all the old back catalogues...ho hum. I missed the Islington show so I am looking at the diary for next year to get my fix and go shopping.

AIRFIX ARE DOING A 1/48 VULCAN!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
JBOHMSS replied to Jennings Heilig's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Well it seems that we all have our wishes from Airfix again....there are other threads with such wants...1/24 Beaufighter, 1/48 Blenheim, 1/48 Halifax and on and on.... Yes a 1/72 new tool Vulcan would be nice - Victor, Shackleton is on the cards by the looks of things... However a 1/48 Vulcan was required back in the mid 1980's and I am sure will still be well accepted now. My first job was in a model shop and people were asking then about 1/48 Vulcan. After the Aeroclub Vacform going ballistic I am positive that with the Vixen, Javelin and others would be of interest and pretty certain it would be commercially viable. Size wise it would not be much different to finding shelf space for a 1/48 Herky Bird...and after seeing several Vac Form 1/48 Vulcans on show at Telford shelf space would not be much of an issue to the 1/48 fans (similar size to the 1/32 Black Widow). Anyhow...I for one would be the first to shell out for a 1/48 Vulcan...and an after market cockpit!!! -

JBOHMSS replied to Jennings Heilig's topic in Aircraft Cold War
If Airfix are doing a 1/48 Vulcan it is about time...I have been gagging for this plane in this scale and it would be about the same size as a Herc so shelf space could be found. Oh I hope so.
