  1. Well it was Hannants who told me...that is why it will be late. By about 1 month.
  2. Well I have just been told by a reliable source it was the Tiffie.
  3. Just found out that the reason the Tiffie is going to a month late is because the instrument panel was back to front. Apparently some eagle eyed critic observed this....good news really as there would have been a tremendous amount of mickey taking about it.
  4. I have to say I am getting so fed up seeing this...it's demoralizing how awesome this is looking.
  5. No...don't think so....made mine a few years ago now.
  6. Oh dear....actually filling the rivets is quite easy but whatever...at least post photo's when it's done.
  7. That is a good start...I got the flightpath set for mine - it really helps. The main issue is the fact that the rear end of the model kit is the GR3 with a replacement front end. The rear end is covered in rivets - the Sea Harrier was quite smooth - So get the milliput out!
  8. Interesting having the ramifications of Amazon and taxes and all the rest. I just want to get my hands on a Tiffie and I am getting it at the announced cost from Hattons and Amazon - early bird and all that!
  9. Didn't Revell do Tornado in 1/32? Thaought that was an acceptable kit... I am not a fan of the type so I didn't bother. As for can't afford a Tiffie - well I think there are plenty that will afford it and buy it. here on this forum we are but a few. As for your partner - she earned brownie points. But the Sea Harrier has issues.
  10. Hee hee....it seems so many of us modellers won't go and buy the Tiffie ourselves but would be happy to have it in our collection as a gift...so the second hand market might be well subscribed in a few months time.
  11. I too have seen a few Airfix 1/24 FW 190's but it seems they require quite a bit of polishing to get anything half way acceptable. I'll start hunting for Hasegawa. Thanks all
  12. Amazon win in many ways - Looking forward to my cheaper Typhoon!
  13. I know cost is always a consideration but at the price recommended it is in my opinion good value for money especially compared to the Javelin that was mooted at around £50. There is an awful lot of plastic in the Tiffie as was displayed at Telford last year. And the engineering looks fantastic something that Airfix can be a bit hit and miss on. The Tamiya Spits, Mustang and Corsair - all possibly the best engineered aircraft models on the market all come in at best part of three figures if not just over the ton mark. Now as said previously if we hunt around we can get a deal (I did from overseas, but generally the Tamiya kits have been well accepted for the quality. Airfix are delivering a kit that appears well thought out and nicely engineered as well as quantity. I think £90 is acceptable - £75 is better! And did we really expect a June release? Airfix are the manufacturer that is synonymous with late release dates. Historically I remember their release dates way back on the 1/24 FW 190 and others some were 12 months late! The 1/24 Mossie was 35 years late!
  14. Went to Time Machine today and supported the owner by buying a few things but it is not a model shop as we have all been talking about. He has a handful of model kits but his stock is mainly die cast models and railway. No paints were obvious either. I will say the owner was a really nice chap and we had a great conversation. Lovely atmosphere the sort of shop you want to run across when traveling down a country lane.
  15. There lies the rub - I miss so much chatting to the owners of model shops. I would go to my locals weekly and buy something but I would enjoy the conversation on all topics - news of models, movies we have liked, vehicles and weapons that we model figures etc. My nearest model shop is Dorking and that is too much of a trek to go to buy paint or glue if there is no model I am after. It's at the shows that I have to catch up on the news. Or if on my travels I run across a model shop. Actually going down to Maidenhead today so will check out Time machine.
  16. It's not Amazon's tax affairs it is the fact that politics have been brought on to this thread - this is a modelling forum. I don't want an apology, personally I don't want politics brought on here. I am discussing models with like minded people. As for swapping the Tiffie for the Catalina - jog on pally wally!!! And the bargain was to be had - I ordered mine and the price still stays at £74.95. Someone either made a typo and corrected it or it was a loss leader for a while.
  17. Gary I am not an administrator nor one to browbeat or have a go - especially on this forum, I do get enthusiastic. I'm not sure politics should be brought up here... We all have opinions on politics but this is a model site. I would add that if we all get a bargain on Amazon do we actually care that they are not paying UK tax because of a loophole that is the responsibility of the Government. I sure as hell do not care as long as I get a bargain. Also should Amazon get fully taxed in this country sure as hell they would not be based in this country - their UK operation would shift to another EU country and they would distribute from there. From the corporate biggies down to the market grocer everyone wants to pay less tax. Bob The 1/32 Catalina I am afraid will remain the cost of a LED TV - too much resin!
  18. I would never describe the Cornish as ignorant - except those that call us visitors emmets!! Had a few like that. My parents lived in Cornwall for 28 years - I have toured around the place and I absolutely love it. You may say otherwise but having been in the town centres during the winter season I feel that not enough Cornish locals are around to keep a shop going - in fact many of the shop owners I know tend to close end of October and open again in March. And having had experience many shops in Cornwall rely very much on the tourist business. But it is great news to hear that a model shop is doing well in Cornwall - as I say the model shop in Launceston has gone and I believe the two in Plymouth have gone. Youngsters getting into models these days are usually through Games Workshop - Orcs and Demons capture children's imagination - many kids and again I speak from experience being involved with my kids and their friends are not interested in historic aircraft...a great pity I know.
  19. Please keep it coming, don't really want the Dora - want a radial engine kit. I may go 1/32 route. More info is welcome.
  20. I observe often in this hobby/industry that after the initial release of a new kit often siad kit reaches the price that a modeller is happy to pay. The Sea Vixen is a case in point - when first released it was £34.99 - a good price in my opinion and then after initial sales it slowed down it went on sale for as little as £14.00, I snapped up several more at this price but even then it didn't fly off the shelves. There are other factors to think about - Model Zone had a deal with Airfix all items were purchased as opposed with Scalextric and Hornby which was sale or return. The bulk purchases by Model Zone ensured that the margin was good to be able to offer the discounts in sales. I am not sure if that will be the case in the current situation with model shops around the country. Certainly Airfix has a larger presence now in Hobby Craft and Toys R Us. The Mossie is a success story. It was a model announced 35 years prior to it's release. I think the hype helped. But the projected price of the Tiffie at £90 may be the crux of the matter as Hattons first offered this at £70 - I snapped one up and got my order in. I have a feeling that wholesalers may be taking a bit of notice to model shop owners and modellers Amazon of course can bulk buy to get such discounts that it can pass along. Ultimately the modeller will pay what he feels is right - £70 or £90? The former will have it flying off the shelves more so than £90.
  21. I like em big! But 1/18 is going too far for me...I shall keep an eye out for Trumpeter but I may go to the Hasegawa. Thanks and any more input gratefully received.
  22. Bob The Hasegawa 1/48 Typhoon is a peach and if you hant around you can get it under £20 at some of the shows and good for you self imposing such a limit - I liked the Tamiya Corsair and the HPH Catalina too much to set such restrictions. And if 1/48 Halifax and Vulcan came out...hell no! I'd be putting my money out on the table selling a kidney in the process! Allan I had a purger recently and sold a lot of kits to a second hand kit dealer - got a good deal too. My stash was ever increasing it was quite liberating selling off best part of a van load of kits - I still have many that will be my retirement hobby but I can't resist the Typhoon and if a 1/48 Halifax and Vulcan came out I wouldn't resist either and I desperately want the Mk 2 Blenhiem and I am looking forward to the Whirlwind. And gentlemen I see people buying kits that they don't really want as well because they get wrapped up in the marketing - The Airfix Nimrod is one of those kits - so many people I know that bought that kit and didn't make it...because it didn't interest them enough - just a converted airliner that is not as exciting as the Valiant or the Canberra. I know of people that buy a whole bunch of 1/72 kits same type plane that do not get made - because they made one and the others are the same model once you made one you have made them all. And believe me some people buy the big kits and don't make them - they want the kit, they want to make it yet they realise it is too big and once made will not fit in the house so they don't make it and they sell it on. A lot of second hand Mossies are like that.
  23. Giorgio you miss read my post or I wasn't clear enough - the Sanction II DB4 GT Zagato's are not replicas they are actual official Aston Martin cars built on four DB4GT Z Chassis unearthed at Aston Works and built on Victor Gauntlett's say so. There are a good few AM DB4GT Z Replicas that have Aston Engines and lightweight body shells from fibreglass as well as aluminum or other materials as are the DBR1 replicas. Often Aston Power plants but not Aston chassis or body - replica's in every sense of the word. As are many AC Cobra's often with a Chevy powerplant.
  24. Posted by Rob on another thread - a real good deal. http://www.amazon.co...=HAWKER TYPHOON
  25. Thats my second one ordered at that price it is worth it one to do now and one to do in ten years time. That is a deal
