Thanks, I hope I can push this project all the way to the end, I have a tendency to stop at any point,

I have access to a Universal Laser Systems VLS4.75 machine at work.

There are many ways to use it, cutting paint masks or model bases, and parts that would be suitable for photoetching can be made out of lasercut cardboard.

Work equipment, the best kind. Don’t worry about a tendency to stop, it’s a hobby!

Orange?  The Boscombe high-altitude calibration Javelin was red and white, as the photo shows.  There is another thread where the red/orange discrimination  is discussed, but there seems to be no way of coming to any conclusion.  My understanding is that the Cougars were Red too.  It quite likely the US colour International Orange, which is red in other

You made me look. XA778 is definitely a very loud orange no matter what your screen calibration is. XH897 is red and white. Did you confuse the two?

Enjoyed following your build thread and now seeing the excellent end result - that's a lovely Thunderstreak, very nicely finished. It's inspired me to dig one of mine out and get cracking!

    Top job! :)

    That looks terrific!  Nice job.

Thanks! As usual I missed at least one thing, or this case two-so far. The wing roots should have the gun trough drilled out behind the leading edge, and the wing tip lights.🙄

  4. Completely pointless 3D printing! The Special Hobby kit has the correct seat included, but I pride myself on doing things the hard way. If I was going to pose the canopy open, I would refine it a bit more, but all you can really see is the headrest.  The F84F went through three different seat designs in its career. I am sure if I look hard enough I would find more than one airframe that had all three! In any case, the seat is in the pit, just down to prettying up the canopy sealant.

  5. That is perfect! Back to Fusion 360 to try again. I think the big pipe is for the gun heating system, I will add that as well. Thanks very much. The trailing edge is bent in the same way as Duxford. Looks like only the brace is non original.

  6. Lumps and bumps. Having finally set eyes on a genuine F24 at Duxford the other day, I was surprised by the prominence of the cannon breach lumps. I was going to ignore the lower profile of the kit ones, but they are clearly half the height they should be. I see more 3D modelling for this thing in my future. The bumps for the aileron and trim tabs are not quite right neither, and I thought I was done with the wings……. I also found out the museum example and I are both incorrect for the radiator flaps-more about that later.

this is a nosed over PR XIX, but AFAIK same radiators

Thanks, but I want to know the inside actuator and any support rods. I found a nice shot of a Seafire XV and thought they would be the same structure if slightly different dimensionally, but the Duxford F24 throws up more questions than answers-not even close. I should have been a little more nosy. I just know there must be a full set of service manuals somewhere in Duxford for an F22!

  8. Does anybody have any technical drawings showing the radiator flaps on the F22/24? I finally managed to visit the one at Duxford, but suspect they may not be original. Thanks to a kindly staff member, I was allowed behind the ropes. I just took a few pics of the port side only, and when I examined them they look odd and made of too thin metal. I should have used a flash, I know! I also can’t follow how they would move the way they appear to be installed. The supports look welded to a plate and have nowhere to go upwards in the thin wing.
