  1. First ship? Oh my god that is a beautiful job, a really fitting tribute to the great ship. Just invested in this kit to go with the other Revell, Dragon and Hobbyboss kits i have to be built.
  2. Hi Jason, sterling job on the TU, and a really well done on saving it from the bin. As I am new to Aircraft modelling, I have test built two older 1:72 Airfix using new and untested techniques so as to learn what I'm doing when it comes to the better and bigger kits. The last two kits have encountered problems much the same as yours and sadly, I didn't walk away and cool off, they ended up in the bin. In the case of the last one I ended up using it a test piece for other kits. But yes, well saved and it turned out wonderful. I am looking at buying this kit as I can get it quite cheaply, so this build has let me see what is needed to get her looking good. Aside from the filling there are not many issues are there? Many thanks mate Steve
  3. Ahhh, thank you guys, i hope this may be the answer to my current problems too. Had no success lastnight and the day before with the AZH decals of the older Spitfire from Airfix. As this was a pure experimental build its been consigned to the bin and move onto the next 99p kit. But saying that, it is really starting to annoy me as im having almost persistent silvering. Only once did I not, after using Humbtol Decal fix. Oh well, onto the next one and try Klear this time.
  4. Had some trouble with the decals on the Airfix Spitfire MK1a, the older AHZ marking kit, but in the newer boxed starter kit. Water dipped the decals, painted the micro set on, applied the decals, pressed down with a tissue and they have still silvered. Even re-applied the Set on top and no good. The kit has two coats of future on it for a decal base. On my previous build I used the Humbrol Decal fix and it worked really well but the decals were direct replacements from Airfix spares department, would that matter? Help please guys, it's doing my head in now.
  5. Ahhh thanks guys! Well chuffed.
  6. Hi guys, many thanks for the opinions tips and advice. All heeded for pondering at a later date.
  7. HI guys, sorry if this is a repeat of the same question but I can't find reference to the subject anywhere on here. Basics are, how do I airbrush Johnsons / Pledge Klear?? Is is a simple case of just "into the pot" on 15 - 20 PSI? Or do you need to thin this stuff? I have brush painted it with great results so far but I would like to be able to airbrush it too. Also what does one use to clean the brush out afterwards? Thanks for any answers I can reply too before I can log on again.
  8. Hi, I just wondered if anybody knew if there were any plans for releasing any new warship kits in 1:200 or 1:350 scale in the pipeline from Trumpeter, Academy, Tamiya, Revell or any other model kit producers? Last big ship I saw on the market was USS Missouri in 1:200 from Trumpeter. Thanks Steve.
  9. Humbrol rattle can matt varnish wil strip Humbrol matt 33, works better than any paint stripper sadly.
  10. What is good is if you can find the Ralph Mcquarrie paining depicting the first time you see the Falcon in docking 94, all is much the same except the proto ship is where the Falcon should be. Very odd for one as obsessed as myself.
  11. Glad to find this topic as I have had HUGE problems with this stuff. I used Humbrol on the last Spitfire build that was, thank god, a 99p kit off ebay I started so as to bring me back into model aircraft kit building. The original decals I applied silvered horribly so I saw the Humbrol Clear video on Youtube and though I would give it a go. I brushed it on the kit that was painted in Humbrol oil matt 29, matt 30 and matt 33. The finish was patchy, certainly not level and even pooled and turned white in areas. I managed to removed the white parts that were almost chalky in nature. I then used Humbrol Decal fix, the new formula. It worked good enough but there were faint marks left on the Clear by the decal fix after it was removed with a towel. The two Airfix MK1a canopies I have dipped have gone blotchy white, also drying with a crusty white deposit on it. The second one I did, last night actually, dried frosted. So after much pondering I have binned the stuff. I have a bottle of the new formula Klear, does it work? As now, I'm stuck for a varnish so as I can apply decals. Oh and I just left my thoughts on the Facebook sight to see what, if anything happens.
  12. Great looking kit is this new Lancaster from Airfix. Picked up the older Dambusters kit a few months before this one was released and to compare to two is fun. Looking forward to seeing the progress on the this one. And also, does that technique of rubbing the filler down with nail varnish work on Humbrol model filler? Or just the filler you have used? Oh and what was the filler you used on the wings? Thanks Steve.
  13. LOL, Iron Man with a badge is exactly what I thought when I saw the trailer. The unarmoured hand bothers me greatly, looks naff and I can't see why it's been done. But then again, why even go near Robocop for remake? Can't be improved in any way shape or form, the first movie was and is a total classic that is still watchable now if you ignore the 80's clothes and big glasses. Still, I'm quite glad the metallic blue and black has been kept.
  14. Any more work on this Vier buddy? As always, I have one in the stocks to builds and would like to light it up.
  15. I bought 3 from Modelzone before the poor unfortunate store closed, got them for £4.99 each with the intention of knocking out a few different versions. A nice kit in the box that I am looking forward to building.
  16. Big Trek fan as concerns the Federation ships and a few of the "Alien" ships so I decided to purchase the Enterprise D off the shelf as i wanted a look at these funky little ships. The Enterprise D is a really nice looking model, love the Aztec detail and the markings on the hull, good proportions and paint applications. Liked it that much I bought another 3. Next came the one I have been waiting for, my fave movie era Enterprise. On first inspection, not as detailed as the D. Closer inspection reveals the some join / seam problems around the engineering hull and war drive pylon base, no Aztec markings there, photon torp launchers were the same colour as the body and the warp engines are missing the black detail. Not impressed with this one becasue I thought being the model that most would want out of this collection, it wasn't up in to scratch. Next, saw the KBoP on the shelves. gone is the clossy card folder, replaced with the plastic bag, the price is now £9.99p. The KBoP is a very nice model, but not for the price, it's two high for these, nice as some are. Not buying any for RRP, keeping a keen eye on ebay in the future for the Federation ships I want more than anything.
