  1. Good Evening from Japan, Please see the work in progress thread. I haven't updated it in a while, as it takes so long to get the photo equipment out and upload everything. I've been working to try to have it complete to turn into the local hobby shop's summer contest, due by Wednesday. Lots and lots of detail work, see the photos of the finished version below! 2. Great job, and I really like the weathering. What did you use for the subtle, but very nice looking results? Cheers, Hoops
  3. Thank you for the kind words gentlemen! I appreciate the feedback. Looking at the references I have I can see that there is a difference. It looks to me like the head box slopes down at the back. The shape of the front looks pretty similar to me. As this will be somewhat obscured by the canopy bow, and the work is already done, I will be continuing with the seat I've got. Especially because I don't have any more appropriate Mk 9 seats on hand, and this needs to be complete by Sep 9 to make into my local hobby shop's contest. Cheers and thanks! Hoops
  4. Another update before I start priming and painting the aircraft: Here are the modifications to the canopy, the molded on det cords were carefully sanded off and polished away so that they can be replaced by decals. The panel in the back was scratch built (can be seen in the previous cockpit photos) and the fairings boxed in: P1050549 by J Hooper, on Flickr P1050548 by J Hooper, on Flickr The gun pods are mounted on the bottom, as well as the various vents and antennas. Paint looks a bit rough right now, as parts had been primed to check shape, then sanded filled, or otherwise adjusted: P1050556 by J Hooper, on Flickr The detail on the glareshield can be seen, as well as the reshaping of the nose extension, detailing on the deck behind the cockpit and other various vents. The pitot tube base was replaced as the kit item was too short as well as too large in diameter. The kit supplied vent below the right cold air nozzle was significantly cut down, as the Hasegawa piece is way to large, and the other vent on fairing was added from scratch. P1050555 by J Hooper, on Flickr P1050554 by J Hooper, on Flickr Next step is to attach and blend in the windscreen, then mask, prime and check for any flaws that need to be addressed. Thanks for looking! Hoops
  5. Hi Bill, Serkan gave some good info on using the Oramask. Personally I don't have the vinyl, but the Tamiya Masking sheets are easy to get and cheap here in Japan, and I've had very good success using them. Silhouette studio already has a built in setting for "Washi Sheets" which is really what that masking sheets are. I use Inkscape, which is a freeware vector based drawing program, to do the artwork, save it as a plain .svg and then imported into Silhouette Studio. Put the tamiya masking sheet on the cutting mat, select cut edges, select "washi sheet" and send. A few minutes later, I have the masks. Cheers! Hoops
  6. The cockpit is painted and ready for installation: P1050542 by J Hooper, on Flickr Shown test fitted here: P1050544 by J Hooper, on Flickr Next step is doing some filling and shaping on the nose. It is my opinion that the front of the nose is not far off. Where the narrow "barrel" transitions to the rest of the fuselage, however, It looks like it gets pinched and throws off the look of the nose. Some puttying and light shaping will show some improvements there I hope. Cheers and thanks for looking, Hoops
  7. An update: Tail Markings have been painted, including the "H." I was not thrilled with the color density on the ALPS printed decals, so I elected to paint the markings instead. P1050533 by J Hooper, on Flickr The underwing stores are complete and ready for installation once major construction and paint is completed: P1050536 by J Hooper, on Flickr The same is true for the landing gear, the Yellow "H" on the outrigger gear is also painted on, those proved to be significantly more fiddly. P1050538 by J Hooper, on Flickr The compressor face and the air brake are also similarly ready to go. "H" on the airbrake also painted. P1050541 by J Hooper, on Flickr
  8. Great work Serkan! I'm glad that the refs I was able to provide helped out, and it is really neat to see the two models side by side. Cheers and I'm looking forward to seeing more progress. Hoops
  9. I'm not a F-111 guy, but I could imagine that it would be CG and fuel load dependent when parked. Wing tanks full? probably need to be forward. Wing tanks relatively empty? swept back is OK. Again, this is pure speculation on my part as a non-F-111 operator. Cheers, Hoops
  10. Wardog, The OV-10G+ was tested in Iraq, not Afghanistan. The forward EO/IR/Lazer designator was a Wescam MX-15Di turret. Munitions used in theater were 7 shot extended LAU-68 F/A launcher using the APKWS 2.75" rockets, mounted on the outboard stub pylon stations. Testing was also done with similar 5" rockets, but I don't know if they were used in theater. Centerline was an Aero 1C 150 Gallon tank. Wing pylons were not installed. Cheers! Hoops
  11. The PEACE MARBLE spine, or really any other F-16 spine that matter, is much taller than the spine on -750. The spine on -750 is unique, and maybe about 2/3 - 3/4 the height of all the others. Kursad also released the sheet in 1/48, see here: http://caracalmodels.com/cd48160.html Currently seems to be sold out at a lot of the major retailers, but perhaps you can source it somewhere, or work for a partial decal sheet. Cheers, Hoops
  12. I just get a "this content is not available right now" I did do a search under the Jaguar Appreciation Society page, and found a couple of photos. The Air Graphics piece is definitely missing the "crease," and I'm realizing leaves a good amount to be desired overall. That is especially when considering the price and shipping.
  13. I'm reviving an old thread here, I picked up the Air Graphics pod for use on my build, but I'm not sure about the basic shape. The Air Graphics pod is a perfect circle in cross section, but I get the impression that there is a "crease" or "seam" down the side of the pod based on the photos I've seen. None of the pictures I've found on the internet are great, however, as the pod mostly gets lost in the shadows under the aircraft. Can somebody please point me in the direction of good reference for the EMI Pod? Thank you very much. Hoops
  14. I think that it is just showing you the decal placement on the front and the back of the propellers, not that there are two prop types. Cheers, Hoops
  15. Elta EL/L-8212 lightweight jamming pod. Thank you all for the kind comments. Because of the scheme, of all the aircraft that I have built, this one is my daughter's favorite. Cheers, Hoops
  16. And now for the cockpit: The seat is from NeOmega, I've had it the stash forever, but it is the right mark. I narrowed it a bit on the bottom to fit in between the consoles and so that the cockpit would fit in the fuselage. Lots of detail added with lots of sources. P1050501 by J Hooper, on Flickr Inserted in to the fuselage side: P1050504 by J Hooper, on Flickr Fuselage halves closed: P1050507 by J Hooper, on Flickr I'll be adding some more detail to the deck behind the ejection seat, but that will wait until the interior is painted, and the sides are glued closed. All for now! Cheers, Hoops
  17. External Parts, first the underwing stores: The drop tanks were modified from Hasegawa Napalm bombs. The kit doesn't come with any, and these proved to be pretty close based on the scale plans of first generation Harriers that I had. Some reshaping, detailing, and adding sway braces an they were complete. The Phimat pod is from the Special Hobby Mirage F.1 kit, the spacer and sway braces were scratch built, and better fins added with .25mm sheet on the tail. The same space was added to the other side, and the LAU-7 rail was added from a Hasegawa 2nd Gen Harrier kit. P1050495 by J Hooper, on Flickr The plates on the end of the horizontal stabs were shaved off and replaced with .25mm sheet. P1050492 by J Hooper, on Flickr Detail added to the gear and the heat shields using sheet and stretched sprue (black for contrast so that I can see it.) P1050496 by J Hooper, on Flickr The gun pods: P1050482 by J Hooper, on Flickr The sink marks in on the intakes were filled, and I filed down the top blow in doors to represent them dropped. I left those on the side flush so that I don't have to get crazy with the decals. P1050478 by J Hooper, on Flickr
  18. Good Afternoon, I think that the Hasegawa kit has some disadvantages, but it is dirt cheap where I live right now, and I think with the proper amount of effort, I can overcome those problems and turn out a good looking build. I'm working on this aircraft for my local hobby shop's fall contest, and this is the plan for how it should appear in the end: path1357-2-1-5-5-6 by J Hooper, on Flickr I've not found any good decals for this scheme, so I did my own artwork and had them ALPS printed. They are in the mail and will hopefully be here in time for decaling. Depending on how the yellow turns out once printed, I may paint the lightning bolt on the tail, but that decision will be made once the decals are in hand. path1344-3-6 by J Hooper, on Flickr First will be fuselage details, you can see the traces of the sink marks throughout the fuselage. I opened up the intake on the top side and boxed it in from the rear. P1050488 by J Hooper, on Flickr I also boxed in the nozzles added some details that were missing: P1050487 by J Hooper, on Flickr The airbrake well was detailed also: P1050486 by J Hooper, on Flickr Detail added to the vents, the flaps were dropped, and the wing fences were replaced with .25mm sheet styrene. P1050485 by J Hooper, on Flickr Detail of the tail vents: P1050489 by J Hooper, on Flickr
  19. This build has been finished for a long time, I finally took some photos of it: Cheers, Hoops
  20. This aircraft has been complete for a while, but I finally got the photography set up out today to shoot some other model stuff. Here is the finished product: P1050525 by J Hooper, on Flickr P1050524 by J Hooper, on Flickr P1050522 by J Hooper, on Flickr P1050532 by J Hooper, on Flickr P1050529 by J Hooper, on Flickr P1050527 by J Hooper, on Flickr Cheers! 21. For reference here are some plans I drew up for the GPU-5A in 1/72 scale in order to support some CAS BAI F-16 builds. I will be converting/detailing Hasegawa pods for my build though. Edit: it's displaying on the screen larger than it should be in scale, but if you print the image out, it should be 1/72. The pylons shown is the for the F-16. Cheers, Hoops text16689-3-1 by J Hooper, on Flickr
  22. I'm not familiar with the Italeri pod, only with the one in the Hasegawa weapons set. From your provided image it already looks to have some advantages of the Hasegawa item, specifically the upturned rear end and the strong back are both better represented. Good luck with the build!
  23. Kinetic is correct. The prototypes had the dogtooth further outboard and landing lights on the leading edge of the wing. Hoops
  24. That was actually the primary envisioned role for the German Alpha jets, which is why they divested theirs with the end of the cold war. The mission was no longer required, as advanced jet training was/is being conducted in the United States with the US Air Force. Despite issues with KP kits, it would be pretty difficult to be worse than the currently available kits in 1/72 scale, so I will welcome this addition. I have a Heller kit, which seems to be the best place to start from right now, but it still pretty bad. If KP can at least get the wings right (dogtooth in the right position, no landing lights) it will already be a big improvement. I'd like one, we'll see what happens. Hoops
