  1. i agree, should not shine too much, it was a tool to do a job. looks smashing to me.
  2. great build, beautifully detailed, looks like it could be driven. think i have seen this car running at goodwood, all your model lacks are the puddles of fluids which the real one drops everywhere.
  3. roy, you are a top modeller, engine looks superb.
  4. kit arrived today, i will now ask my mate if he can see which turret his dads plane had, that should tie down the mark of the model, kit details look sharp and i am looking forward to doing it now. i have to get a few things off my bench first which are almost done.
  5. what ! the rear end is purposeful. very racey and tough.
  6. the proof is there on the link, finishes to be proud of.
  7. just take your time, it's a hobby to enjoy. we all started somewhere. practice painting on an old coke can to get used to it. and warm the can up gently before use in an airing cupboard ( dont be tempted to put it with the sunday roast or in the microwave ) , the paint flows better. excellent results can be achieved. lots of advice to be had on this forum.
  8. tony. thanks very much for your kind input, i am sure it will be an invaluable source of information and inspiration. kit should be with me in the next few days.
  9. i too used the lavender, but missed out the clear coat. it's a real good kit in my opinion, never tire of looking at either the model or the real thing when i see it. i was at le mans when twr won in 88 and 90, so i have an affinity with them. i started doing the 90 xjr12, using a tamiya chassis with a hasegawa daytona jag as it has a lower rear arches, did the bodywork, but messed up the paint, i will return to it sometime. look forward to seeing yours completed.
  10. hopefully tony will see this thread and join in. thank you all.
  11. that's the very one, or e2a, either would look mighty impressive in large scale. plus i have all the reference work done for you.
  12. what purple did you use ? did you find the decals were slightly transparent, did they show the masking line up ?. great build by the way.
  13. one of the 12 e type lightweights, 49 FXN, the lumsden/sargeant, samir klatt modified car. my particular favourite.
  14. tamiya mini. great little kit. goes together well
  15. i always prime, it's my first quality check, thin coat of primer will show up any imperfections before commiting to top coats. i do cars so its a bit more critical. i tend to use halfords or hycote primers (uk).
  16. Nige. just ordered a special hobby kit as you were writing your reply. very good advice to go for the cheap one first, although i have not done planes, i have been continuously doing 1/24 cars since the mid seventies, so i think i will ok on the construction side. i have just got to get the reference work in to help me get it to where i would like it to be. if you think of any links, please point me in that direction. thanks for your help, much appreciated. when i make a start, i will post its progress on here. richie.
  17. thank you for your responses, i have lots of time for advice and research before i commit myself. leaning towards the newer kit at present. the built up model looks great. would the decals be from a set, or made from several sources ?. i can do decals myself.
  18. do they have recessed panel detail or raised ?
  19. can anyone help, i have been asked to build a 1/72 scale baltimore as flown by 223 squadron in Egypt 1942. my mates dad worked on them. can anyone recommend which kit to go for, i have seen a couple on ebay, what colours to use, and any markings to use. i have not built a plane for many a year, but want to get it as good as i can for him. thanks.
  20. smashing finish on your model. i have a rs and an rsr to do, how easy did it go together ?
  21. why not do the linder/knocker lightweight ?
  22. just bought a tamiya zackspeed capri and a built hasegawa castrol TWR jaguar. off ebay. must ease off now !
